I visited this place a while ago with my partner and we had a great time back then because of the live jazz music and nice atmosphere. We recently went back again and this time we tried a couple of sides and a pizza and it was a pleasant surprise. The starters were very nicely seasoned and cooked, it was delicious but the pizza could have been a bit better it was too salty. The atmosphere was the same nice as before. But the most important thing is that the staff was friendly and provided very good service. We definitely will come back another time.
Had a great pizza, an amazing roast potato side dish, and drinks here on Friday evening. Some veggie and vegan options on the menu too.
You can't reserve tables in advance, but there were plenty free when we arrived at 18.45ish. However, it was starting to fill up by the time we left at 20.15ish.
Tasty food, friendly staff, good drink selection, decent music on, nice atmosphere. Couldn't ask for more on a Friday night to kick off the weekend.
Great little coffee shop / wine bar that does great filled bagels. We had lunch here both of our days in York.
According to my friends from Italy, the
Carbonara at Spaghetti Junction (located within Angel on the Green) is just as good as the Carbonara in Rome.
I have eaten Carbonara in Rome and the Carbonara I had at Spaghetti Junction is the real deal. All pasta is made by hand and the chef hails from Rome.
You can’t book a table and this place fills quickly on weekends. I took my family out on a Saturday around 5:00 p.m. There were a few tables left on our arrival. Food and drinks are ordered at the bar.
I chose the Carbonara priced at £12.95, my wife the Cacio & Pepe, priced at £10 and my daughters had a Margherita pizza each at £9.50. I’m a fan of Cresci on Piccadilly in the town centre and would say the pizza is almost on par for what I consider the best pizza in York. We had a bottle of wine and a couple of bees wiggle out meal of which there is a decent selection. My only gripe was the pasta portions were too small.
The atmosphere in this place is great, relaxed and low key. There is a buzz about this place when it’s busy and a great place to bring visitors from out of town or just a casual meal.
What let’s the place down would be the bar staff. I’ve worked in hospitality in the past dealing with 1000s of customers on a nightly basis so feel I am able to give some constructive criticism. One of my pet hates is managers or staff, sat at the bar doing work (I think that what they were doing) whilst chatting to staff that should be fully engaged with the customer. I also like to be felt welcomed and valued as a customer. On this visit, I was not and was made to feel I was a very very slight nuisance. Also, if you say you are going to bring something to the table once ordered, please have the courtesy to follow through on this.
Re-train your bar staff in the art of customer service. I guess if your are a regular you may get treated differently.
Lovely place to stop for lunch. Very nice bagels and good service. We tried to get in a few times in the evening but it is always very busy so get there early to get a seat.
After morning coffee and fab cake for £5 we came back for dinner. All was well until I tried to set light to the restaurant with my paper napkins. We were rescued by a quick thinking lady who threw her soft drink over the fire! My embarrassment was clear for all to see. But everyone was fantastic including the staff who were completely unfazed by it all and wouldn't let me pay for her drink. Oh and the food was delicious. Do come to this really great place. We will try to be less conspicuous on our next holiday! The photo of the kegs was when they first opened before the dray had arrived.
Loved the pizza! Would recommend getting the butternut squash one it was very tasty
Great traditional place to chat and enjoy a drink. Live music and food some nights
Lovely food in a modern setting. Great service from very welcoming staff. Decent selection of drinks on offer. Good for kids, we had an early pizza meal, that we all enjoyed - notably the twisted crust on the pizza!
Had an absolutely brilliant night here on a recent trip to York. The food was great (I had a last minute change of heart and got the fish and chips - my friends and I agreed that I'd won on the best meal choice). The staff were wonderful and very accommodating. They helped us move to a table closer to the live music that night and suggested some great wines.
Speaking of the live music, if you're in the area on a Sunday then the Gypsy Jazz night they host is amazing. We all had a great time, it was loud enough to be atmospheric but we could still talk and played some well known songs along with some interesting ones we weren't familiar with. Can't wait to come back again!
