The food was innovative and the flavors were lovely. There were some tasty dishes I hadn’t seen on other pub menus before. The staff were friendly and very attentive and polite. We were notified of a wait but it was as expected and was WORTH IT!! Also, the “Honey Pot” dessert was very good!
The atmosphere was lovely and the restaurant was clean and styled beautifully. It has a moody eclectic feel! My favorite part are the mismatched chairs. SO COOL!
Had a day around York taking the Father in-law to the National Railway Museum and other things. So thought it would be good to get a bite to eat after all the walking. Seen the Fox and Roman numerous times driving in and out of York and its always looked welcoming. So as it ideal for the South of York nipped in for a drink and a bite to eat. (Monday 2pm ish) the place has be decorated for Christmas but in a good not over the top way!..... open fire was going, ideal for a windy autumn day and the place is large but cosy at the same time! The staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful and the atmosphere, although not busy was pleasant for this time of day. Great food, all of us really enjoyed it and would consider visiting again. Ideal for the race course and welcomes dogs so again another bonus. Enjoyed our visit.
Lovely afternoon with a couple of friends, my daughter & my newborn grandbabies. We had a big table with plenty of room, the staff were very attentive & patient. We were not rushed & we received a bottle of prosecco on the house for my birthday. The food was delicious, decent portions, hot & reasonably priced. We all has a lovely time and based on this experience, would highly recommend.
Came here for a parkrun brekkie. Lovely friendly staff and such a yummy vegan breakfast with beetroot hash browns.

food service stopped at 8. and we went too order at 8.05. The staff Ned! went too ask the chef if we could have anything. we said we'd have anything simple ane nothing was too much trouble. Ned was so friendly and helpful and went above and beyond.
Post-parkrun breakfast. Lovely shady patio area, speedy service and delicious food. Pulled beef brisket hash was fab, definitely recommended 👌

Lovely family meal today and the staff were amazing! They made sure the person in our group with allergies was well catered for and were very attentive. Absolutely loved the food too, can't wait to come again! Thank you to the staff for doing such a good job when it was so busy.
Great evening. Fantastic Valentines menu, could have eaten everything on there. The food was delicious, had lamb koftas and mushroom and camembert fondue to start and then the Chateubriend for main! Ned who served us was friendly and attentive. Would recommend!
Haven't tried the food yet, had a few drinks and by far the staff are amazing, very accommodating and friendly. Atmosphere is equally amazing, so cozy and homy. Dogs are welcome and loads of seating for patrons. Parking available at thr back of the pub as well
Visited several times whilst staying at a hotel nearby this week. Great experience every time. Lovely, cosy pub. Staff are very friendly - don’t know his name but the barman who wasn’t keen on making the mocktails was great! Food was always tasty. Will definitely return next time I’m in York!
A nice local bistro pub. Food is good and reasonably priced. Service was top notch. There was a mix up with our starter but our server sorted it out. We even asked for desert to go which was no problem and was even given a spoon which we shall cherish forever.
We had a lovely birthday meal at the Fox and Roman this week. Despite it being incredibly busy, our waiter Sophie was attentive and on hand to make sure we were well looked after. The food was delicious, especially the sharing platter we ordered, and our daughter enjoyed her meal as well. Always a place we'll come to where we can guarantee quality every time 👍
Service was excellent. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Both of us enjoy our lunch. The lamb Sunday lunch was tender and very tasty according to my friend. I had the sea bass with and would definitely have that dish again. I really enjoyed it.

What a great , enthusiastic, polite chap. So refreshing to be served by a younger person , who can engage with the customers in such a pleasant manner, with a great sense of humour. Well done to you , on all levels.
We ordered right before the kitchen closed so I'm not gonna be too critical.
But if you are going to charge those kind of prices then something as simple as fries should be perfection and shouldn't look like they have been sat around in the kitchen all day. The chicken burger was excellent though.

This pub offers a great choice of drinks, including plenty of draught beers, and a reasonable menu.
The menu is not the cheapest of options, but the food is always consistently good quality with great service.
Jamie was great, such a character and good crack!
I had the hunters chicken schnitzel and Abbie had the meat feast pizza, followed by banoffi pie and the flower pot. The flower pot is a great thing, with everything on the plate being edible.
We will be back again to use our loyalty vouchers!
