Had mostly starters as I wasn’t quite in the mood for pizza. The calamari, wings and pesto dough balls were a delight, however the garlic mushrooms were less garlicky and more balsamic vinegary.
The service was okay - it was a Monday evening, so pretty slow but it took a good 5-10min at the entrance with nobody to be seen waiting to be seated.
My partner had the sloppy guiseppe, and it seemed very fresh and usual fare for Pizza Express.
The highlight is always the Billionaire’s Sundae. They give a mix of caramel and vanilla ice cream with biscuit crumble and chocolate syrup. We shared one this time around but usually, we can easily polish off one each. Highly recommend this for dessert!
The food was very nice and Marta was lovely, very cheerful and efficient. However, we were not particularly impressed by the person which showed us to the table (I’m afraid I didn’t catch his name, but he was wearing a striped Tshirt). Very curt, we didn’t feel welcome at all. I would suggest choosing front staff with better social skills.
On a day trip to York to attend an organ recital at the Minster and as my family and I were tired of walking and absolutely starving, we popped in here. I enjoyed a delicious spicy meat feast pizza and glass of red wine. Good value - I was expecting much higher prices due to being in major tourist area.
It's a good pizza express, Building is really nice and feels historical. Had a lovely view In a window seat overlooking the river ouse. It's always a winner with our kids so is also a winner with us parents. We had no booking so had a 10mi wait which at 6pm on a Saturday isn't unreasonable.
Went there last night. Arrived very early for our reservation but was assured by the smiling manager it was no problem. We were seated and very quickly our order was taken by a lovely waitress Ade’. The pizzas arrived very quickly and were hot. Dessert was warm brownie and gelato.
I had travelled up from Liverpool to see my daughter and it was lovely to sit and chat. The staff were attentive but not intrusive. They allowed us to sit and chat over coffee, long after other places would have kicked us out. We had a really lovely evening together. Thanks
Excellent food. Service was really good. We have visited other Pizza Express Restaurants many times and this is by far the best as the food was cooked to perfection and we didn't have to wait too long between courses.
Please also thank the waiter who served us. I forgot to mention how brilliant he was. He was so welcoming and my husband enjoyed talking about football with him!
You deserve the 5 star review!
Firstly, it was a Friday night so I expected the restaurant to be busy. There was a live band playing when we went. Unfortunately, I went with my family and it was quite loud, making it difficult to have a conversation. This is not the restaurant's fault as it was popular entertainment. Just be aware before you book if you want a quieter evening.
Our thin Italien pizza was delicious, crispy and well seasoned, bit over priced but not unusual in York.
The interior of this beautiful building is stylish.
Service was very friendly but we waited a long time when we wanted to pay even we said it twice the waiter was chatting with other guests and ignored us and the place wasn't busy at the time.
We loved this restaurant. Having once been an exlusive gentlemen's club, it is a beautiful and historic building with elegant decor, delightful artwork, and superb ambience. The food was quite spectacular. All the pizzas are authentic thin crust and full of flavor. I recommend the super food salad, also, which is wonderfully healthy and flavorful. Our server was excellent and took care of our large party very well. Finally, it was a great price. Five stars!
Popped in for lunch with my wife the place was deserted as you can see from my pictures the service was exceptionally slow the place was empty because it was the beginning of November. we had the Padanna pizza which is goat's cheese, sweet caramelized onions, spinach mozzarella tomato and garlic oil I also had a portion of chicken put on the top and it was delicious always love Pizza Express. I also had a great lemon drink in a can. Many thanks for your response. Shame everyone doesn't. Like PX in skipton
Booked a table today for a family meal (three adults and 5 children) prior to heading to the Pantomime.
Amazing service as soon as we walked in. Great food and good value for money.
Nothing was too much trouble for our waiter, Liam. Including making my nieces birthday special with a candle and a song with her dessert.
Thank you, we will be back.
We have been visiting Pizza Express on Museum Street for many years. It has a great atmosphere - relaxed, friendly and nicely busy. The staff are always helpful and pleasant. I can honestly say that we've never had a bad experience.
Five of our party of seven were nearly an hour late as the centre of York was gridlocked. However, Pizza Express kept our table open for us. Even though they were really busy as it was the lead up to Christmas.
The food was good and the guy who served us very pleasant, informative and very efficient.
The only reason it didn't get 5* for atmosphere is because we were in the entrance room with only a few tables and not on the main room. Apart from the atmosphere, it wasn't really an issue being in this room.
As always, Pizza Express has great food in some lovely settings - here, right in the river beside one of the main bridges in York. It's not cheap, but it's quality food with good service. My only slight disappointment this time was the distinctly-average glass of Montepulcciano d'Abruzzo, but that's a minor quibble, as the food itself was great.
