Always wanted to try here but was usually too busy whenever we went and couldn’t get a table but we were lucky on our last visit to York. You can’t book a table on the day but can book the day before so I highly recommend you make a reservation. Did not disappoint. Really cosy, warm and welcoming pub. Lots of polished wood and twinkly lights. Nice atmosphere and fantastic menu. We always wanted to try the pies which look amazing and were well worth waiting for! Can’t wait to visit again and try another amazing meal on the menu😊😋

Fantastic food in an authentic, historic site! The steak pie was incredible; the gravy and crust was savored to the last bite. The fish and chips portion was huge and we really enjoyed it! The lentil and sweet potato pie was also delicious! The ambience took us back a few hundred years in history and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Marked on Google Maps so we can return!

Just popped in on my walk today. Was blown away by the spectacular lunch I enjoyed - the lamb shank shepherds pie was divine. Special thanks to chefs Fran & Ash. Brilliant pie & cheers Casey for your warm welcome. Highly recommend.

A days Christmas shopping in York and this place is just what we needed. We both had Beef shin and brisket pie with buttery mash and carrots. It did not disappoint, one of the best pies I have tasted. We will definitely return. Can I make one small suggestion and this is not a complaint. I noticed when giving out condiment boxes, knives and forks are pointed up over. Through work experience this has proved to be quite dangerous,

Just happened to be walking by for opening time, ended up having the chicken and oyster mushroom pie. Nice and cosy, soon filled up with families coming in from the rain. Casey behind the bar was very helpful and the pie was outstanding!

Probably the best pie I've ever had. Stuffed full of meat and gravy. A really nice pub.

Beautiful pub in the heart of York. Good selection of real ales , all of a high standard. The food is reasonably priced and well cooked and presented. Staff smart and attentive. Great Nichollsons pub

Went here for our families Christmas dinner this year to try something new- food was delicious, though roasties and pigs in blankets not roasted to my preference ! Service was incredible, with jokes and feeling welcome all around! Would really recommend this again with the desserts being delectable! Food and drinks served promptly, we had three courses and we had a really fun time with great atmosphere - would do again 😊

This little pub is lovely. The staff are very friendly. We stayed and had something to eat, I had the puy lentil and veg pie! It was lovely, topped with carrot and sweet mash with lots of gravy and some broccoli on the side. A great dish for a hungry vegan!

Lovely little pub smack bang in the center of York. Staff were lovely and friendly, food great and a lovely Christmas vibe inside with lights and decorations. Lots of seating and multiple little areas. Recommend the rear of the pub as it's extra cosy. Pub exterior is also very beautiful, very tudor. Deffo return here when back in York.
