This was a great pub for the atmosphere. It was clean with polite staff. We had lunch here and all ordered sandwiches. The food was, however, average, not outstanding. The side salad was tasteless, and the bottom of my sandwich was soggy.
It was such a lovely place with amazing food, drinks and music.
It was only earlier tonight during the tour group that we were told about "Honest John", who ran/owned this place back in the day, and it was a privilege to be able to eat here.
The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the live band played some pretty great tunes.
I hope to visit again someday if ever I get to visit England again.
Pre booked a table on line for six to dine in the restaurant last night (NYE). Three of our party order starters, we all ordered main meals and two ordered desserts. The bar staff and waiting staff give an excellent service. Each and every one of them was all very welcoming and polite. A smile goes a long way and I would give 10/10 for this alone. The whole pub was very busy and these guys were very professional and friendly. All the food was delicious, hot, plentiful and very reasonably priced. Compliments to the chef. We will all definitely revisit when we are next in York, we highly recommend a visit you will not be disappointed. Thank you to you all 10/10 from us six and a happy new year 2024.
We had the Steak and Ale pie, and the Chicken Truffle pie. Both were enjoyed.
Atmosphere was nice, a slightly more upscale feeling pub.
The food did take quite a long time to arrive, although it was busy, it didn't seem so busy that we should have had to wait for 35 minutes for its arrival. If the pies were being individually made to order, then I can happily accept that, but I do not think that's the case.
Booked the restaurant for a family meal to celebrate my daughter running the York Marathon, pub has a great position in the centre of York, once we got to the Old White Swan we were warmly greeted and shown to our table, very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Staff were very attentive checking everything was ok and if we needed anything throughout the meal. Beers were good, I enjoyed a Old Perculier that was very nice. We had Sunday roast with four having the beef and four the chicken both nicely cooked with decent portion sizes. We had planned on bringing a dog but they're not allowed in the restaurant but are allowed in the bar and outside seating areas but these are walk in only with no booking so didn't want to risk not getting a table so the dog had to stay at home. Really had a nice time and would recommend The Old White Swan if you're passing.
Beautifully presented, tasty and reasonably priced meal. The best part was our server, Stuart. He is an exceptional young man and really made our visit. His warm personality and efficient manner just made our evening!
Had the Christmas festive menu. Had a really great experience. Food is really good. Had very good service and friendly staff.
Pleasant find, recently refurbished to a high standard, the pub has some interesting history to it. Lovely little courtyard area ideal for summer day's & nights. Good menu of "pub grub" classics, staff were friendly, attentive, fast service. Looking forward to our next visit
Went here yesterday for lunch with the girls.
Lovely warm welcome, fires on, cosy and warm.
Food was fantastic. Had the Steak and Ale pie, which I can heartily recommend. All six of cleared our plates.
Our server was also fantastic, helped one of our group with an allergy around the menu, he also ensured we were happy with our experience.
We visited as part of the York Restaurant Week. A Pie and a Pint for £15, excellent value for money. These pies were well filled with good quality meat, served with vegetables, by friendly and helpful staff. Worth every penny, will be making a return trip, soon.
