Brilliant place for a good pint, relaxed atmosphere, regular live jazz, open fire & no tv's or slots đź‘ŤAt one point they had signs up for no mobiles, but I suppose they had to give in to modern tech ! Always go when we are in York, good to see Paul & have a decent pint, even welcome dogs, what better excuse to take the dog a walk

This is a little hidden gem. I've been to York many times and often passed within spitting distance of this place and not even noticed it. Fantastic ale choice, very friendly and welcoming atmosphere, would highly recommend this pub to anyone ďż˝

Why this pub isn't still in the Good Beer Guide beats me. Great beer and a good atmosphere without music and gaming machines, this two room pub still has open fire in the bar.

A little gem of a pub that's a bit hidden but in such a great location just inside the old walls mixing well into the neighborhood. Quiet when I visited with a few couples and some friends having a pint after work. A lovely little fireplace, friendly barkeeper, and some good cask ales. The small back patio looks great for the warmer months. This place clearly has some history and stories and next time I'm in York I'll certainly stop by again.

What a pub. The choice of ales are extensive and all that I tried were delicious and fresh. The staff were also very friendly. I left my brolly there and they let me pick it up before opening the next day - thanks for that. Finally, the best thing about our evening was the blues band playing. Take a look, they're mega.

Cannot find fault with York CAMRA pub of the year 2023. A lovely pub in one of the quieter City areas within the walls. Love the layout and decor. A front bar room with a real fire and a much larger rear area with a good rear beer courtyard to boot.I know I have been before with Jorvic, not sure about Paulicarus. Five real ales. A new brewery for me, Yorkshire Dales. Had an excellent pint of Drover's Arms dark mild 3.9%. Also in CAMRA 2024 Good Beer Guide.

A great pub with a number of different rooms, when I bushed a roaring fire warned up the front bar. Great range of cask ale and a busy, friendly atmosphere. I'll definitely visit again next time I'm in York.

Awesome pub. Outskirts of the city so prices are cheapest you’ll find. Great beer garden for a sunny day!

Stopped in for a pint a few weeks back after walking the wall around the city, and we were delightfully surprised at the simple charm of this place. Unassuming, no pretence, no music or tv, just a charming, beautifully preserved Victorian-era (I think) pub, where strangers could say hello. Oh, and some fantastic real ale, too. I visited 13 different pubs on this most recent trip to England, and this one was my favourite.

A great little place, don't be fooled and pass by, this place is a must visit! The bar staff were great, both polite and helpful and the pork pies simple, but great to soak up some of the alcohol! The greatest draw was the live jazz on Wednesday evening and some of the locals bring their instruments and join in the sessions. The music was great and absolutely made our evening.

I'm in this pub way too often but its hard to stay away! The live music is wonderful and the selection of drinks unrivalled. The different cask rotations keep it interesting and each and every member of staff are attentive and great to be around. I would recommend this pub to anyone.

Lovely place. I thought I am lucky to find this pub. There are not many place to play live music on Monday, but here it is!! Beer and pie was fine, Jazz live music was insane. It’s good place to make a memorable night. Staffs were lovely. Should’ve been known to many people.
