Booked to stay on 21st Dec for one night our room was right at the top but due to health couldn’t manage the stairs, but a lovely Lady called Holly ran around and arranged a room on the first floor for us, breakfast was hot and very tasty and evening meal was outstanding. All staff were very friendly. Once again thank you Holly for all you did for us it was much appreciated. Would definitely stay here again

Just stayed for one night and so glad we chose to stay here rather than a Travelodge!! We checked in at 2:30pm at the bar and had been given room 12 "the Attic". We couldn't believe the size of the room! It was so nice. Very clean, information bookets of the area available. The shower was fun for my 6ft 3 boyfriend as it has a sloping roof but he managed. Came back at 2am after a night of bars and was someone to let us in, no issues. Check in and out as easy and the hotel let us store our bags after check out so we didn't have to carry them around york before we went home later in the evening. Would definitely recommend and can't wait to come again. Lovely staff. Didn't have the food but it looked nice. Lovely little cosy hotel with lots of character

Lovely setting and food was very nice. Beer was lovely with a good selection. I would book a table in advance as it gets busy. We will return next time we're in York.

Sat our group of six on the back patio, which is very nice. Staff was excellent and made ordering easy. We ordered a wide range of drinks and food options, with a few snacks thrown in for good measure. All excellent, and the prices were very reasonable! Wish I could make another trip to this pub, but unfortunately I am leaving York tomorrow. :(

A lovely place to grab an afternoon pint with friends! The beer garden is one of the best in the city. When it's a nice day out, there's fewer things in the world I find more enjoyable than drinking with friends outside. Thus, when the opportunity arose to do so while visiting York, we decided to hit up the Lamb & Lion. Pro-tip: check the beer garden first to grab a table and then buy your pints. You are far from the only person in the world who loves day drinking outside. When we visited, the beer garden was packed! We luckily were able to find a table, but during our time there we saw quite a few people unable to locate a spot. There's nothing worse than having a beer in one hand and finding no place you can drink it! The beer selection is typical and prices are reasonable. What you're really paying for here is the ambiance of the garden. While there's chatter from others all around you, the garden itself is secluded from the street, with one side facing the city wall. Relax under an umbrella and enjoy your pint-- I know I did.

Had been looking for a place with the wife for late lunch and drinks that didn't involve standard pub-fare. This place met all expectations. Interesting and different menu that had standards like rarebit and fish and chips alongside mozzarella ciabatta and steak & blue cheese sandwiches. Outdoor beer garden takes some finding - it's a bit hidden, which is really nice! A perfect place for quiet conversation and good eats. Good selection of ale and cider, wine, and spirits. Will definitely return during our stay here in York.

A fantastic place to go for lunch, or spend the afternoon. See if you can get the wee snug area up a short flight of stairs from the bar - table 9. It's just so cosy and a great place to be. Good choice of beer, great service, and the food's fabulous too. Between us we had everything from soup to salad to mussels to roast, and everything was just right. I want to go back, now!

Great rump steak!! Best food I've had since our arrival in the EU. Terry liked his steak pie too Very close to the Minster and our B and B on Queen Anne's street. Good house wine. Lots of beer on tap. Nice atmosphere until someone decides to sing.

A wonderful inn. As it was sunny during our visit, we took advantage of the beer garden that is situated just under the city wall with views of York Minster. We were on a mid-afternoon stop off so just had drinks but the food that came out of the kitchen had us salivating. Lovely pub situated in a great location.

In York (and Europe) for the first time and we chose this place as our first dinner. It was fantastic! The food (fish and chips) was better than expected, as the portions were large and delicious. The atmosphere was authenticly British, and the service was engaging and fast, the server taking time to not only get us what we needed but also shoot the breeze and joke around with the (all too obvious) Americans. The building is ancient, with little nooks and crannies to eat in, making for slightly cramped seating, which actually added to the atmosphere and the experience. If ever back in York, we will be eating here again.

A good pub with a great beer garden which is set between the bar walls and the minster. A great location. Beer good, didn't try the food though.

A great place to head to if the sun is shinning- they have a great beer garden right on to the famous York walls and a great view of the Minster. The pub itself has a decent selection of beers and even if the British weather does not do you the favour to shine, the interior is warm and cosy and certainly unique. Prices are not the lowest in town but you are getting a great atmosphere !

I dropped in here for lunch after seeing the fantastic beer garden from up on the city wall. Unfortunately it was raining so I stayed inside but that's OK as its a warm, cosy, friendly environment. I had a steak for lunch which was good quality, well cooked and came with good accompaniments including a brilliant pepper sauce with an abundance of pink and black peppercorns. A really good quality pub meal. The staff were nice and helpful and the beer selection is good. Looking forward to go back on a sunny day.

We just dropped by for a pint in the garden and stayed for two. Great been selection on a classy environmental well connected to the history of York. It was a wonderful place to sit, people watch, and taste some local beers. We didn't stay for dinner but can't imagine it wouldn't be as good.
