First class food at a very good price.

I have been to this excellent restaurant many times and was amazed to read a review questioning the hygiene and attitude of the staff. My wife and I always choose the Olive for a night out and have never experienced anything other than first class courteous service. It has always struck me as a very clean and well presented restaurant. The food is of the highest quality and the staff are always attentive. We often go for the two course meal, which at £14.95 can't be beaten. Our favourite starter is the haloumi salad and the fish main courses are superb. In my opinion this is a hygienic, clean restaurant and one that I would recommend to anyone looking for great food, well presented and served with care and attention.

Fantastic food and friendly staff, child friendly. Check bill as I was charged for a bottle of wine instead of a glass. Would definitely go back

Really good Mediterranean food, just on the edge of York city centre, and very accessible, good friendly service. We had 2 starters between and shared a main which was a good move as it was large portions, so good value, and chilled vibe, and not too expensive either which is good for York

Very busy but squeezed us in at short notice. Had to wait a while but food cooked to order - lots of choice and delicious pizzas. Great view of Clifford's Tower.

Slow service, but they were busy. Staff friendly, just a bit run off their feet. Food is good. Desserts are NOT homemade. Wine about £20 a bottle. Mains around £12-17 each. Desserts (£5-7). Gorgeous view of the York Castle which is directly opposite. Get a window table.

We were a midday booking on a Tuesday. The front of house service was very friendly and happy to supply a high chair for a 18 month old child. The restaurant was clean and warm, food and drink was a reasonably priced and generously portioned. Ideal for large groups and family gatherings.

Food was delicious but the starter was massive and left little room for our main course. Will definitely share one on a return visit

I spent Christmas day there with my partner. The price of the three courses was good and the food really nice and well presented. Staff was helpful and cheerful. The place is located next to Clifford's Tower so the view was outstanding. The decoration of the restaurant was not what I expected judging from the name of the place but it was okay.

Stopped here for lunch whilst in York. They have a wide range of options and the Chicken, Lamb and Beef is halal. Great service and super friendly staff!

Quick and friendly service, we booked for 5:30pm but 4 parties walked straight in without bookings. The portion sizes are really good. The chicken and chorizo paella was gorgeous and they offered to take the rest away when we could only finish half of it. We only had one drink but £45 including tip for a meal of that standard and size is really good value. Top tips: 1. Look at the menu online which has offers on which are not on the menu within the restaurant. 2. Ask for a window table and enjoy the view of Clifford’s Tower.

Excellent food for a special occasion lunch, a varied menu with a Mediterranean focus. The service was friendly and efficient, food nicely presented. I had halibut which was perfectly cooked and presented in an unfussy way with roasted vegetables which were done just right - not greasy! I will return 😀

Nice place with a good selection of meals. My partner and I both chose from the pasta selection (tagliatelli with king prawns and lobster ravioli), both were delicious! The desserts offered a more limited choice. We chose the raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake, which was nice but not quite at the same standard as the mains. Prices were reasonable and they also offer a set menu before 6:30pm(3 courses for ~£17).

This is our go to restaurant if we are eating in York. We have eaten here over the last several years and never had anything other than excellent food. I was a lone diner today but my seafood risotto was such a generous portion I would have shared it with my husband if he had been there; it was packed full of seafood, beautifully seasoned and well cooked. I only took one photo which wasn’t really for this review but I’ll share it anyway.

We arrived at 20:00, we had booked a table in advance but when we arrived we were sat down without asking a confirmation on the booking. I could tell the waitresses were busy. Me and my partner ordered some wine which was lovely and had a scan through the menu. Plenty of good food. We decided against the starter and went straight for main course. I originally wanted the lamb shank but they didn’t have any - the waitress was quick to recommend an alternative which was very helpful. I had the lamb mushroom kebab with green beans, potatoes and salad. It had a really tasty sauce too. My partner had the stuffed chicken which she said was lovely. We were very happy with our mains! Afterwards we had deserts. I had the crumble and my partner had tiramisu. The tiramisu was lovely but I felt let down by my crumble.. could tell it was just a microwave job. It even came out in its black microwaveable packaging. I wouldn’t recommend the crumble. Overall I’d say 4 stars! Would like to thank the Olive Tree for a nice evening.

We have just had a Fantastic meal here at The Olive Tree. Opposite Cliffords Tower. I can very much recommend it. The Sea Bass was very well cooked. The Garlic Creamy Mushrooms were also out of this world. I had the Lasagne, again was the best I have had for a long time. I would give them 5 STARS . Why when in York you don't just see what your missing.

Just like Jimmy White, this is my favourite Italian in York. We like it so much we had Xmas lunch there this year. The lasagne is properly lush, the boy always has marghuerita pizza and I always finish it, so good. Can be quiet, why I do not know.

I kept meaning to visit this place whilst living in York last year and I so wish I had. We went for a pre-theatre meal and the service was quick and friendly. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our food, and will be back to try the other items on the menu which sounded lovely.
