We enjoyed a lovely meal here yesterday. We were seated in the conservatory at the back of the restaurant overlooking the beautiful walled gardens where squirrels were playing. The staff were extremely polite and attentive and the chef was happy to oblige when my husband requested a different sauce with his Calzone. There was a lovely atmosphere, food was reasonably priced and service was really good. Would highly recommend a visit!

We went yesterday to York myself and my daughter for a lovely day out, and before heading home we wanted a lovely meal, well what can I say we had the most beautiful meal I had strip steak burger and my daughter had a lovely sirloin steak which I can say was beautiful the service was second to none. We had ice cream sundae for afters. All in all you must visit if your in York. We gave £5 tip that’s how lovely the service and food was. It isn’t as expensive as you think. So just think on next time your there. Try here you won’t be disappointed I promise

Amazing value. Two courses for £15.95 or 3 courses for £19.95( this is dated 20/6/2018) the food was fantastic. This restaurant is well well worth the visit. I had the lamb and it was gorgeous, it fell apart, melted like butter.

La Vecchia Scuola (Eng: The Old School) Italian Restaurant at 62 Low Petergate is a must-visit when in York. La Vecchia Scuola is housed in a 300 year old building that previous to being a restaurant, housed the York College for Girls. Before that, a doctor’s residence, lawyer’s office, and in Roman times, a fort stood on the same spot. New owners opened La Vecchia Scuola in 2013 and haven’t looked back. If our experience is any indication, they’re in for a long run. Main courses are in the mid to high teens, topping out at £21.95 for filet. Pasta and Pizzas are less. See current online menu here . We began our meal with a shared order of Funghi Gorgonzola (£6.45) , pan fried oyster mushrooms in a creamy Gorgonzola sauce, garnished with fresh basil. Fresh bread came on the side. Can “Funghi” be romantic? Don’t know why, but leaning in, sharing this dish, dipping torn bits of bread into the sauce, was a bit romantic. PIC ordered Salmone alla Griglia (£13.95) . What arrived at table was

A Culinary Journey in a Charming Setting: Nestled within a transformed former school, this Italian restaurant offers a delightful dining experience that combines hearty portions, quality cuisine, and a welcoming atmosphere. From the moment we entered, we were impressed by the warm ambiance and the friendly demeanor of the staff. Despite a busy period, they remained composed and approachable, adding to the overall enjoyment of the dining experience. One of the standout features of our visit was the exceptional quality of the kids' menu. It's rare to find a restaurant that takes such care in crafting meals for younger patrons, and it speaks volumes about the chef's dedication to serving all guests well. As they say, when a chef serves kids well, they're sure to serve adults well too. The food itself exceeded expectations, with hearty portions that left us feeling satisfied. Each dish was expertly prepared, showcasing the chef's skill and attention to detail. In addition to the culinary delights, the restaurant boasts a charming ambiance that adds to the overall dining experience. Clean and well-maintained toilets further underscore the establishment's commitment to excellence. Overall, our visit to this Italian restaurant was truly enjoyable, thanks to the combination of delicious food, friendly staff, and inviting atmosphere. Whether you're looking for a family-friendly meal or a cozy dinner for two, this restaurant delivers on all fronts. Highly recommended.

This was our second visit, the staff are so welcoming and friendly, the food fabulous, the restaurant this time was quieter, a loud large party last time was the only reason that I didn't give 5 stars all round. The pork was amazingly good. We will definitely be back, highly recommend.

Lovely graduation celebration this evening. We were 6 and had a gorgeous table, then we were 8 and had to be moved, the table was not so great. However the food was gorgeous and the staff were excellent. Had a wonderful time and was really reasonably priced too. Would definitely recommend this gorgeous restaurant and definitely be going back.

Lovely restaurant that felt fitting for our five year anniversary. We mentioned in our booking that it is an anniversary and they gave us a free drink on the house, entirely unprompted. Our spending includes starter, main course, dessert, and a bottle of wine.

Loved the food so much. The place too is incredibly stunning. The only thing that annoyed me a bit is that we had to wait ages until someone takes away our plates and then again around 15 minutes until someone came again to take our dessert order. Despite only being six people at the restaurant altogether. However, that happens and the food was absolutely amazing. There was probably just a change of shifts and we were unlucky. I am absolutely and 100% sure that this place deserves a visit from you. My order (pictures): lobster ravioli and gluten free brownie

Such lovely staff, very inviting, gave us a choice of seating locations to accommodate temp (freezing outside so offered us to seat by radiator!) and genuinely, the best Caesar salad I’ve ever had! Very big portion, didn’t need a starter!!

Great atmosphere. I was really disappointed about the food, test less. The calamari didn’t have any taste. The linguine with salmon was good only after I added salt but it had too much oil at the end. The affogato was good. Overall it was a good experience.

I love the interior design of these place. The front hall is so grand and two rooms on the sides has vines climbed all over the walls. The middle hall is more low key and homely. The green house dining hall is my favorite. The windows are gorgeous and the lightings are splendid. We ordered risotto and a dessert. The risotto was very taste. It’s a bit pricy for 17 pounds but it’s worth it. The desert was too sour but it’s acceptable. The service is very good. I love it but I may try their other dessert next time and hopefully it tastes better.
