As the only 5 star hotel in town I was surprised not many people know about the restaurant. We ordered a drink first and tasting menu with wine pairing, there's only 2 tables that night but I feel so rushed to start when I only had 2 sip of my drink. The food is great, probably the best I had in town, wines are good and unique too, price is reasonable as well, worth to try
Absolutely great experience. The food was excellent, locally sourced were possible as well. 9 courses of pure delight in a relaxed atmosphere. Service was also impeccable.
Beautifully decorated restaurant in lovely renovated building. Food was excellent with many delightful Tapas style dishes. Expected wine prices to be high, but found a well priced red. Have already returned, this will be our favourite go to restaurant in York.
From a purely food perspective, the food was excellent―deserving of its 3 AA Rosettes and in my opinion, it could possibly hold a Michelin Star. The tasting menu for the night included: cryogenic mojito, consisting of crushed liquid nitrogen cooled meringue and sorbet; autumn vegetables (root veg and mushrooms); veal, perfectly done, with turnips and allium sauce; stone bass, flaky with charred skin and served with samphire (the dish was a little on the salty side for me); BBQ beef cheek and a piece of sirloin (cheek was slightly dry, sirloin was nice not amazing); meadowsweet ice cream; douglas fir cream (both desserts were delicious). The service, on the other hand, was slightly lacking. There was one waiter who was particular helpful, taking the time to explain each dish and paired wine; the others were more lacklustre, with one in particular, who wasn't rude but seemed rushed. At one point, I was even not provided with cutlery. The pacing of the entire experience was a bit too fast for my liking, with the paired wines coming too quickly after the previous course but too early for the next course. Overall, though, my experience was very positive. Hudson's is one of the best places for fine dining in York and it's definitely worth going at least once.
