I used to live in London and Allpress were the first high end coffee makes in Shoreditch before the middle class muppets moved in. They also have an amazing space in Dalston where they roast and service their machines. Their coffee is second to none (which is saying a lot in the ever more saturated coffee market). Having Laura appear in the Shambles Food Market is amazing. Nattering away to her she's been in coffee for years and has worked with AllPress in their native Australia and knows her beans. It's such a positive sign for York as a city to start having this level of quality and passion appear and a great sign that Shambles Market means business. Love it.
You must try this amazing little place!! Best coffee in York by far and the best biscuits and banana bread I’ve ever tasted. You won’t be disappointed!
Have to admit, best Americano I've tasted. Friendly, helpful staff too. When you're in York, grab your coffee here - recommended.
Awesome independent Aussie style espresso coffee bar in the Shambles Market! The best coffee I have tasted. Be sure to try the toasted banana bread, it’s amazing!
Fantastic wraps, coffee and really delicious Anzac biscuits highly recommend a visit find Laura and the team at the Shambles Market in York
Delicious coffee - definitely the best in York! Great vegan-friendly options too!
Lovely tea and coffee , great service a very nice pastrami wrap . Great value will definitely be back
First visit today and coffee amazing and the toasted banana bread just delicious ... shall definitely visit again when I'm in the city centre x
Really friendly service, didn’t have to wait too long for my toastie and it was worth it. Good portion size and great ingredients, really enjoyed it. They also do drinks and there are some seats and tables to relax and have your food/drink, recommend!
WOW! That’s all I can say, me and my wife shared the Special toastie which was Chicken, peppered pastrami, 3 cheese blend, rocket and garlic and chilli oil!
It has to be the best toastie we’ve EVER HAD!
When we next come to York we will certainly be back!
Dark horse not only by name. This may look like 'just' a horsebox coffee bar, however, they also serve some fantastic food to go alongside their perfectly served coffees.
Situated in a busy market where perfection is expected, they definitely hit the mark. I am happy to recommend the Dark horse to those visiting York and looking for perfectly crafted coffee and a delicious gourmet toastie.
Stunning coffee and great location, right on the shambles markets, and only metres from the shambles, take time out from your Harry Potter photo expedition to head over here and charge up on a awesome cup of coffee, make sure you try some of their other wares, I had an ANZAC cookie, which was just as good as any I’ve had back home!
Quite simply, if you’re looking for a take out coffee in York - go here as it’s the best! Guaranteed to give you the caffeine hit to keep you going all day! For a small capactino and a tine £4.70
A lovely cafe with a lovely setting and very tasty almond croissants! Unfortunately when I asked, I was told they only had sourdough bread which I’m intolerant to. Though speaking to the owner later, she said they had gluten free bread and were going to try others. We will definitely go again as the staff were very friendly and I’d like to try some of the other pastries!
Excellent cappacino and tea, friendly staff, very reaaonably price, will go back to try the mulled wine in the winter.
Look no further for a delicious cup of coffee in the centre of York! A reliable source of great coffee, homemade cakes and the finest-smelling toasties (I'll be honest, we're dieting, so haven't eaten one, but they do smell lush)! You will not be disappointed.
Such warm, welcoming customers service was given followed by the most amazing bakes! We asked for them warm, and they didn't disappoint! They also serve non dairy milk, which was fantastic. We would definitely recommend it, and we will try to make it a must go too spot every time we visit York. Thank you, guys
One of the best coffees I've had :) Staff so lovely as well - very personable e.g. remembering my order from the day before! Really recommend this place
We visited dark horse espresso bar today and what a hidden gem this really is! We had the best toastie we have ever had, so glad we shared as the toasties are massive and they are certainly not shy on the fillings. Absolutely amazing service and food.
Would 100% recommend!
Aussie coffee! Real espresso, properly made. Brilliant stuff. Great BBQ pulled pork cheese toastie, friendly service.
Wonderful place, part of Shambles Good Court/market area. Excellent people and excellent latte. Didn't have any food, but the toasties looked amazing. Note: popular ones sell out fast!
Coffee tastes great and great presentation , portion a bit on the smaller size for the cost but I understand as it’s in the city centre the need to complete cost wise. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu
Lovely coffee and tasty grilled sandwiches. Nice little stop when strolling along the market.
I had a few hours exploring York and found this gem of a coffee bar. Really tasty coffee and I couldn’t resist the cakes on the second visit.
Quick service with plenty of seating and very friendly staff - I’ll definitely be back when I’m next in York!
Arguably the best coffee in York! Fabulous family run business offering fab coffee, homemade paninis, cakes and pastries. All served from a lovely horse box in the Shambles market, definitely worth a visit!
