Visited the restaurant whilst visiting the area. Found the staff to be both informative and attentive. We had never been in a gurka restaurant before and needed advice which was very forthcoming. We shared the momo dumplings to start and then I had the lamb Everest and my wife had a chicken curry. We also shared a fried rice dish. All the food was well prepared and very tasty. This was all washed down with bottles of beer. All in all an excellent meal.

Been coming here for quite a while now and we’ve tried a number of different dishes and never had a bad meal. Great food and a bit different from the usual curries and the staff are so friendly and accommodating. The only down side is it’s not accessible for everyone as there is a flight of stairs up to the restaurant but if your up to it, give them a fireman’s lift to get them up there. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed!

First time trying Nepalese cuisine and it didn't disappoint. Two of us dined and shared pork momo, Annapurna chicken, yak and yeti rice and yak and yeti special chow mein. There was a warming spice and heat from some of the dishes which made your tongue tingle. If we are to visit York again we will definitely return to this restaurant.

First time here, and really didn't know what to expect.... staff very polite and helpful.... food was 1st class, it didn't seem to be a lot but how wrong were we??? One rice between two would have been more than enough... a very popular place it seems... a table of 15 came in and considering there were only 3 staff on for the whole place, nobody had to wait long at all for their food. Would definitely go back again ....

What a hidden treasure this place is. Tucked away, you'd miss it if you weren't looking for it. Lovely authentic feel, paintings of the Annapurna range and Pokhara on the walls. Just lovely. The food tasted great, efficient service. We came via Groupon but will definitely be visiting again and perfectly happy to pay the listed price. Top marks!

Visited the Yak and Yeti 12 months ago and had such an amazing food experience that this year it was on the top of the list of places to eat. We were not disappointed, fabulous food, delightful helpful staff and really reasonable prices, looking forward already to next years visit!

Best restaurant in York. I can't count how many times I've been and it's always a treat. Staff so welcoming, food excellent..and their generous loyalty card means that after two visits you get a free bottle of wine, after five visits a whole free main for two of you... The choice on the menu is great..and momos/ ribs for starters followed by Everest lamb...is my idea of heaven... Thank you yak and yeti...

Fantastic food, extremely fresh and tasty. A first experience of Nepalese food and it was absolutely brilliant. The MoMo and Chicken Wings to start were beautiful and the Everest Lamb for main were stunning. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Would highly recommend this place.

Summary: Authentic, tasty, homely and YOU NEED TO GO! I came here because I am absolutely in love with Nepali food and wanted to have a try of a variety of dishes. This included stuff like momo, chow mein, thupka, and choila. However, I came away with the BEST meal: DAL BHAT TARKARI. After having this, I think about how much I want to go back to Yak and Yeti and have it again. The staff are lovely, attentive and welcoming, and the atmosphere is comfortable and cosy - exactly what you need with a lovely meal. I recommend finishing with a cup of chiya.

The decor and ambience is authentically Nepalese. We made a day out to York planning an evening meal in the restaurant. Friendly staff, every body spoke to us. We knew all the dishes, and the ones that we ate or packed were worthy. Momo was good as expected, buff sukuti was good too. The chowmein was Nepali flavoured and the chick pea curry in the Daal Bhaat set was pleasing. Our toddler son enjoyed the Chowmein while my daughter gave top marks for momo. We also tasted a few other things, and were all good. The restaurant was full, the service was prompt by that standard.

Absolutely lovely food, and very friendly service. This place felt very real. Although I have never been to Nepal, I would imagine that any inauthenticity in a Nepalese restaurant in northern England would lead to the food, ambience or service taking on a northern flavour, but that did not appear to be the case here. I had that wonderfully exciting feeling of being on holiday in a place where things are delightfully different. Definitely a place to try.

Food was top notch - so tasty and packed full of flavour. The buffalo was amazing - I’d also recommend the crushed rice (it’s not how it sounds but adds great texture). As some of the other reviews have mentioned the portions are a little small but provided you have a starter and main you won’t walk away hungry. The desserts look great too although I didn’t have one. The Gurkha beer is lovely - goes really well with any of the spicy dishes and great size bottle (660ml) The front of house staff are all lovely and very accommodating - the atmosphere is also really nice, can get a little loud due to the small size of venue. All in all one of my favourite places to eat in York.

If you see that doorway, go through it and up the stairs, order as many different things with your company as you can, try a bit of everything and thank me later. The food was fantastic, flavours galore, cooked perfectly and the mains were very warming, couldn't fault the food or service at all, loved every bit. A true hidden gem.

Cozy, well decorated restaurant with great service and food to match. We ordered the dumplings and the beef to start but it was so good we polished it of before pictures. I really came for the chili chicken and chow mein and both didn't disappoint. The only let down was the black lentils which didn't have any flavor. Also ordered Annapurna chicken and the lamb Tama the latter was really yummy.

I can not accurately describe the meals I just consumed. However divinity on a plate is a good start, I have never had a reaction to food more than the food I have had today. It has definitely caused me to happy dance while eating my food.

We had a great meal here. The curry was one of the best I’ve had. The main portions are on the small side, but with a starter you won’t leave hungry. If we visit York again, we’ll definitely visit again.

A great restaurant. You can feel that the restaurant was built with the heart and full dedication of the staff. It was a pleasure to be there. Stunning interior and atmosphere with the spirit of Nepal. Incredibly delicious and hearty traditional Nepali food. Excellent service. Highly recommend to try traditional Nepali soup such as Mo:Mo Thukpa. I think it will not leave anyone indifferent. Never would have thought that so far away from Nepal you can find such a nice place that is filled with the atmosphere of this beautiful country and people.
