Popped in on a lovely sunny lunchtime - got the courtyard to ourselves as we were early and I have to say we were looked after fantastically by the staff who are a credit to the restaurant.
The young chap suggested the meat platter and talked us into adding the cheese then talked us through what was nice. Top work young man.
Tried a fab bottled beer again recommended then had to give one of the wine flights a try - Three French dry whites all very good and reasonable price too.
We are defo coming back - can't recommend the place enough.
Don't know if you've discovered this place yet - it's Zoe and Tim's new venture and goes in a new direction away from their Ambiente formula. They got the chefs to come up with their favourite breakfasts and meals and based the menu around that. The perfect place for brunch or an affordable dinner out, nice wines / drinks and really friendly, good service. Really nicely styled and there's a pretty courtyard to eat outside. Give it a go - it's in the old bicis y mas place down Walmgate.
Food, staff and atmosphere are amazing. I recommend trying a flight of wine, you might end up finding one (or three) you really like! The cake on offer is fab too!
First visit to The Press Kitchen today. Excellent food. Lovely atmosphere. Great staff and customer service. I would give more stars if I could. I will definitely go back and I would recommend it to all.
Beautiful food. Made with care and attention to detail by head chef Bryce. The Press Kitchen caters for all foodie options. Vegetarian and meat eaters. Superb wine list and fantastic cheese board. Well worth a visit.
Called in at the press kitchen last night after york races , great place , friendly attentive staff excellent selection of wines and even a real vinyl record jukebox
Lovely addition to Walmgate. Snazzy decor. Food was tasty and well presented. The wine list is very good. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Oh my goodness!! This place is wonderful. From the attentiveness and knowledge of the staff to the gorgeous food they present. Enjoyed 5 plates between two of us with bread and a cheese board accompanied by some sherry tasters. Also the wine was beautiful too. Left feeling full and very happy we went there.

We had such a wonderful last dinner in York here!
Lucie was amazing to talk to and really helped us navigate the menu.
We definitely ordered too much but I'm so glad we got to taste so many dishes (we had just eaten a big lunch about 3 hours before lol):
- Wheel of tapas: BIG! So good. Really loved the tomato bread under the toppings, took me back to Spain. The anchovies were really nice and fresh (as were the other toppings).
- Lamb patties: solid, loved the rice they were sitting on a lot.
- Octopus - It was good but probably our least favorite dish - I prefer my octopus not sliced/chopped but in a big meaty piece with some char on it. This was slightly fishy.
- Iberico secreto: OMG SO GOOD just get it!!!
- Patatas bravas: I'm never a fan of these because I find they're always kinda bland, but husband likes them so we order them. I've probably had 50 versions of this dish, and these are by far the best version we've ever had. Every single component on the plate was well seasoned and super flavorful! I couldn't stop eating them!
- Monk fish cheeks - Soooooo good. Sweet, soft, and the piperade under it was so flavorful. I didn't know a pepper could have so much flavor!
Lastly, drink wise, we love the Complot IPA, the sherry flight was super fun, and the sangria was perfect - not too sweet for us ;).
I wouldn't hesitate to come back here on our next trip!
Best tapas I've had in the UK, really really good!
I spend a lot of time in the south of Spain, and this is largely authentic, with a decent selection of wine and sherry too. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in York!

Great Service, they really care about you in this place and this is so hard to come by these days. We where served by Lucie who was the loveliest, she was so attentive.
The Food Was So Delicious! I was so full by the end but still wanted to re-order 2 of the dishes we had just had because it was just incredible our favourites where the fish Tacos, Sea bream, pork loin and the risotto.!!!
We Would Really Recommend This Place And We Will Be Visiting Again On Our Next Trip To York!
Level evening at Tabanco on a Saturday night. We didn't have a booking, so we ended up having a drink at one of the counters facing he window while we waited - they had a good selection of cavas (if you are into thar sort of thing). We had de caramelised chorizo and the grilled prawns as starters, which were really good, but the star was the black pork paella which was amazing! We usually go for the seafood one, but this is well worth the try and everything you would hope on a meaty.
After following Ambiente restaurants for a couple years I booked my husband and I to their Meet the Winemaker event with Sebastien Richard for a celebratory weekend in York. We genuinely enjoyed the event and the food was incredible. We never really work to pair our drink and food at home, but definitely have learned it’s well worth the extra research. Exploring Spanish wines other than the Rioja region has been a real eye opener. We had a lengthy conversation with Ambiente’s Group Manager, Robert Scott-South who spoke to us animatedly and passionately as well as being as attentive as his team. My only wish is that I would have loved a bit more narrative from Sebastien to the group in our side of the restaurant, it might have improved the atmosphere which seemed more intimate rather than social. A huge well done to the team the service was outstanding. We look forward to returning again to Ambiente for another event in the future.
I enjoyed a very relaxing lunch here with friends. We were all delighted with the food but also have to say that the service from every member of staff was fantastic . A shout out to Max our server who took exceptional care of us all and went above and beyond to ensure that all of my selections were vegan. My two co-diners were highly appreciative of his sherry recommendation too. Thank you
The staff was absolutely wonderful. They have great vegetarian options and we enjoyed the veggie chicken and the chorizo. The highlight was the burnt basque cheesecake which was absolutely delicious!
One order took a little bit longer and we were pleasantly surprised when they brought us two glasses of sherry and crossed the order and the service charge from the bill.
We would definitely recommend this restaurant if you're looking for tapas, a nice atmosphere and amazing service.
Amazing experience at this restaurant, we will definitely go back when we’re in York again. The staff went above and beyond to make our evening enjoyable. The food was incredible, best paella I’ve ever had. Would highly recommend!
Had a lovely meal here, the manager in particular was really friendly & knowledgable of the huge selection of sherry's on offer. Served cold, with dry and light varieties, I was a complete convert and drank Sherry all meal, moving sweeter towards end. All the dishes were beautifully presented and delicious, and it was so good I've booked to come back 5 of us for my birthday in 3 weeks time, see you then ! Highly recommend.
