Went to Murgatroyds yet again on Saturday evening. This is by far the best place in yorkshire to have fish n chips. The food is also superbly cooked to perfection. I chose the Murgatroyds 2 course special, haddock was, as it should be....crispy batter, meaty fish and none greasy chips with mouth watering mushy peas. Desert was chocolate orange cheesecake with ice cream. The price of £16.50 included bread n butter, tea or coffee. Bargain. The waiter was efficient, polite and informative. Truly not a place to be missed for fish n chip lovers.

Always had a good meal here. Great fish & chips. If I had one request, it would be to have a normal size portion of cod & chips on the menu. I love cod by can’t finish the large one on the menu.

Lovely white, flakey fish in a beautiful crisp batter with chunky chips, not loads of "scrag ends" like you get in many a fish shop. PERFECT. Tha can't beat Yorkshire Fish n Chips.

Amazing fish and chips just how I like them and the waitress was extremely helpful and got me a spam fritter from the takeaway menu as it wasn’t available on the restaurant menu, outstanding will be back soon

We used the take away not the restaurant but a really nice chippy. It was a lovely sunny day and they have lots of tables outside. In a great place from Leeds Bradford airport. Will definitely go back when in the area!

The Fish & Chips are fantastic and the rest of their food is very good. It is a bit on the expensive side though. Suppose you get what you pay for.

Upon the tables were cups and saucers pre-laid out, the tables were cast iron with plastic tops. The chairs looked like the sort you found in Burger King or the local 'caff'. Above our heads were ceiling fan lights and stained glass lamp shades. There was a pensioner menu, soft drinks were served by the pint or half, there were coke floats and slush puppies. I felt like I had returned to a childhood holiday in Skegness (we weren't rich enough to go abroad when I was a kid, it was all penny arcades and piers rather than henna tattoos and hair braids for me).

On a drive from Harrogate to my home village of Saltaire, we spotted Murgatroyds! Not that my dad and I needed an excuse to stop by for some fish and chips, but it seemed perfect to go to on this rainy summer's day! Originally, we were just going to get a take away but then thought that we might as well sit and eat in the restaurant. When we entered Murgatroyds, we were welcomed by the friendly staff and also by the spacious lobby like area with the bar and a tempting cake display! The restaurant area was fairly big with its booth seating and also open areas with normal tables and chairs. The colour theme was green and red with Tiffany style lightshades. As my dad pointed out while we were seated in our booth, it was nice that the booths were separated with plants. This gave the diners the privacy whilst having their meals. It had to be the classic fish and chips and the fish of choice was the haddock fillet! It was served with bread and butter. We were given the choice of white, brown

Travelled from Sheffield as we were told this place was the BEST! It truly was! Little wait for a table as busy but got seated in about 20 minutes. A lovely waitress called Amelia served us, very polite and attentive. Food was absolutely delicious. Scampi was amazing. Beautiful fish, very light batter. Well worth the money. A very clean and bright restaurant. All in all, a wonderful experience dining here tonight. Thank you guys 😊

Visited today with family and my autistic son, staff were lovely asked to be sat in a quiet area which they let us. Had no problems. Portions are massive for the price! Definitely go hungry! 2 courses for the price is well worth it!!!

Hands down the greatest fish and chips I've ever eaten! It's a great old school fish and chips restaurant doing a true British classic the justice it deserves! We had about a 20min wait to be seated as the queue was out the door when we arrived. Which is testament to its popularity. However considering the length of the queue, it seemed to move quickly. In hindsight... We should have booked, but will know this for next time. The staff were helpful and attentive. I felt that our food took a little too long to arrive, but when it did it was hot fresh and delicious. I can't wait to go back again, and fear that it's ruined all other fish and chips for me!

Arrived as they opened and boy are we glad, about 30 minutes later the place was heaving and the large car park was full. Seated straight away and served a few minutes later. Haddock was superb, the chips perfect and the curry sauce just right. Our server was wonderful and our food arrived 5 minutes after ordering. Really excellent experience and will definitely be going back. First class.

This is a 5-star review (no rating for atmosphere as this was a takeaway). I had fishcakes, chips and peas. Wife had chips and fish bites. Son had the Billy Murg Special. And, for good measure, we got scraps, too. Honestly we didn't need to - it felt like they were respawning in the box... those scraps were endless. No qualms in saying this was the best fish and chips I've had in a long time. The fishcakes were yummy - really tasty. Fish bites were huge and tasty, too. Chips were well cooked. We bought for dinner, but ended up saving half to the following day and having dinner (part 2) from the leftovers. And we still didn't finish it all. Per head, it wouldn't have been cheap for one meal, but we easily had enough for two - and would return without hesitation the next time we're in the area.

Fantastic fish and chips, well worth the hype! My friend and I both ordered the appropriately named “Big Un”. The haddock was meaty and covered in the crispiest, lightest batter. We had plenty left over for the day after too. Just beware, if you don’t have a booking, you’ll be waiting for around an hour to be seated. The place is heaving and I honestly don’t know how they manage to Steve up so many dishes to so many guests.

My first and not last visit here. Fresh, tasty food and plenty of it. I ordered the biggest fish they do and this thing is massive!!! Comes with a side, bread & butter and a pot of tea or coffee. I will be back and bringing the folks with me. Very impressed

The best in Britain we were told and yep - everyone is right. We went early Friday lunchtime and the queues quickly built up as we were dining. We opted for the seniors extravaganza- excellent value, portion sizes more than enough, the fish and chips being the highlight - along with proper old fashioned steepy peas. Our server was so attentive and friendly - he’s a definite asset. Somewhere to definitely go to again and again.
