A fabulous evening that perfectly combined the relaxed ambiance appropriate to the rural garden location with some truly excellent cooking. Every dish on the 5 course feast menu was creative, interesting and delicious and they went to the trouble of preparing and printing a special (and equally splendid) menu for one of us who is allium intolerant. Just look out of the window to see where a good portion of the ingredients are sourced and save some time to walk in the lovely gardens. The wines in the suggested flight were well chosen and in a couple of cases exceptional matches to the food. The friendly and informal but efficient service also perfectly suited the place and concept, every course and wine coming with a little explanation. Perhaps not for those in a hurry or who demand super attentive formal service but for us very much up there with our ‘best ever’ eating experiences.

We have travelled a lot, and been lucky enough to eat in a large number of stared and hatted restaurants, however this evening meal The Ethicurean is the best meal I have ever eaten. The amazing views over Somerset & the attentive staff make it the second best restaurant in the world we have visited. A truly wonderful experience, thank you

This establishment is understated in its magnificence, which shines through in every ingredient, dish, flavour, the relaxed and wonderfully personal service and atmosphere. Your banana dessert is the best dessert I have had in my life, not even wanting to knock the other four courses which were outstanding in every way. Thank you so much, your double dessert loving, ethicurean virgin- Jon (with the 40th party on 17th March 2018)

Fantastic food and a great setting tonight at the Ethicurean. The turmeric Mackerel with cucumber and beetroot was the best Mackerel dish I have ever had! The waiting staff were great too. We will be back next month!

What a special restaurant - not only is the food creative, and full of flavour but I particularly liked the un- fussy yet professional service by enthusiastic staff who - unlike most restaurants - leave you alone to enjoy the food. Well done on your success as one of the Sunday Times top 100 UK restaurants - well deserved.

My boyfriend, John took me away for the weekend so that I could experience The Ethicurean near Bristol, for my birthday treat. And what a treat it was. The flavours were exquisite and I can highly recommend it, especially wandering around the walled garden afterwards.

The food here was amazing. I would highly recommend to anyone who would like fresh locally sourced produce. We was able to chat with one of the owners as we left and what a very humble person he was. Being 8 months pregnant they took into consideration any requirements and this shows the level of care they take with there customers. All staff where polite friendly and informative. Five stars from my self and my husband. Will be revisiting very soon.

This was our first visit but it won't be our last! Booked this meal as my partner's birthday present as he's always wanted to eat here. It did not disappoint! We went all in and had starters, mains, desserts and a cheese board. Every single thing was 10/10. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was perfect. A little birthday candle in the cake was a lovely touch. All topped off with a walk around the gardens and some fresh veg bought in the garden shop.

Run by two brothers, Matthew and Iain Pennington, The Ethicurean is located in quite a stunning spot. You park at the bottom of a hill, walk up through the beautiful walled gardens, where much of the produce the chefs use is being grown, then arrive at the top to a sensational view. The dining room is rough and ready; pretty for sure but it’s a bit like eating in a greenhouse. And if you’re bug-phobic like I, the flying things might be a little overwhelming at times. But it’s all so charming – I’ve never been anywhere quite like it.

Simply amazing. This place is faultless. After a slow meander round the beautiful gardens we sat down for dinner in the relaxed shabby chic restaurant.

We had a (rather expensive but) sublime cocktail each. I had a summer elder cocktail which was sweet and studded with black pepper - yum! My friend had a chipotle whiskey cocktail - delicious.

For starter I had soused mackerel, dashi stock, galangal infused rock samphire and cider ice. I was blown away by this dish. It was so fresh and mouthwatering. I can still taste it now. It's perhaps the best dish I've ever had. My friend had the venison bacon salad which apparently delivered a surprise with each mouthful.

For main we both had 12 hour pork belly, fondant potato, redbor, pickled apple, mushroom and chipotle crackling salt. The crackling salt was a revelation. We both agreed it could have done with more mushroom and more apple; however, we also agreed it was the best pork dish we had ever eaten.

I was too full for pudding so had a Spanish hot chocolate which was essentially a liquidised chocolate fondant - I loved it.

This is the perfect destination restaurant with impeccable service and I will be returning as often as I can.

A Hidden Treasure. The restaurant sits at the top of Barley wood walled garden overlooking the mendips. The view is spectacular. We loved the ambiance, the mismatched furniture, books and curious objects that lay all about the place. The food plays on simple well researched classics and you can see the produce growing outside the window. The beer and cider list is extensive and they have all sorts of weird and wonderful alcohol concoctions in funny shaped jars and bottle. We all really enjoyed it, although my wife wasn't in agreement with me about the chocolate Ganache with a savoury beetroot crumble, she didnt like that one.

Looking forward to our next visit which unfortunately wont be until the summer.

What a wonderful restaurant. Chef Mark and his team prepared amazing food (even the fish course with our usually hated celeriac and fennel was a delight). The honeyed brioche went into my top 10 dishes eaten, so simple but absolute sticky wonderfulness. The front of house staff were very attentive and friendly and made us feel very welcome and well looked after. First time dining with them and such a shame we're unlikely to be back before they close at the end of September. If you're considering eating there (and why else would you be reading this), then get it booked ASAP! I look forward to seeing what's next.

Amazing experience. One of the best michelin star meals i've had the pleasure of eating! Amazing to see the walled kitchen gardens and then the produce used in the kitchen to create an innovative, exciting and delicious menu. Great for my gluten free wife too. Professional warm service. Fantastic food. Thanks!

An incredible visit. The food was delicious and I loved how they described where it was sourced. The non alcoholic cocktails were interesting and tasty. They made me feel really welcome and were good for coeliac and gluten allergies. The veggie food was still incredible. Its expensive but worth the money. I would love to go in daylight to see the grounds.

You should visit here, you will not regret it! The food, the service were both fantastic. Price wise, it's great that it is a fixed price, it is more than good value for money based on the quality of the food and service! It was an opportunity to try some unique dishes and I cannot wait to return!

Just wow. The cooking was incredible, fresh and 100% worth the price. We went for the Experience and every dish blew us away. The service was wonderful and the setting stunning. There's a bar on site if you arrive too early like we did! No need to dress up to the nines either, it's a cosy, comfortable place and you'll want to walk around the garden afterwards.

Had the 6 course tasting menu and was blown away by the creativeness and flavours we experienced. The mocktail drinks were amazing, not just sweet like some but with delicate botanical notes. An absolute must for that special occasion.
