First time in Dorset and we were directed to The Black Bear by the B&B we are staying at and I'm so glad that we were. The staff were really friendly from the moment we walked in. We ordered the chicken & bacon salad and the half bbq chicken. The salad was good, really nice dressing, would have liked a bit more.bacon but that's just my partners preference. I've had quite a bit of bbq chicken from different places and this was the best by a long shot. The sauce was the best I've had, not to smokey but sticky and a hint of spice to tingle the taste buds. So thank you so much for a great meal and great service 🖒
This is a fabulous pub. The staff are friendly, cheerful, welcoming and professional. The menu has a varied and delicious selection of snacks and meals plus desserts. It caters for vegetarians and gluten free. Child and dog friendly.
The staff of this pub go the extra mile. If you order a cup of coffee you get it brought to your table on a tray with a plate of biscuits. I ordered from the specials board. It was superb and very reasonably priced. I'll be going back
with friends and family that's for sure.
This is a fantastic little pub with an amazing atmosphere. All the staff are so polite and deliver A1 service. They serve some beautiful local ales and the food is quality. If you're passing through or even close by I recommend that you visit..
A traditional country pub with very friendly staff, who are helpful & eager to please. The toilets are clean & modern, the ground well kept and the decor is in keeping with that of a well run ale house. We didn't have food but the drinks selection alone makes this establishment well worth a visit. We will definitely be making a return trip.
Just had a family meal here, absolutely superb! Excellent food, excellent service :) couldn't have had a better meal.
I've spent 15 years working up the road and avoiding this pub, because I thought it was Badger Beer. Well, it was for most of that time, but it's not any more. I catch up eventually, and everyone deserves to be forgiven.
It may well have been a great local all along, with not so great beer, but how would I know?
Thankfully for me, I've finally discovered this great local pub. Superb and ever changing selection of 3 or 4 real ales, friendly and helpful staff, and that feel of a proper pub that is very hard to find these days.
The food looks good too, give me another 15 years and I may post a review..... ;)
Three fantastic visits to the Black Bear whilst staying in Wool. Excellent choice of ales in this CAMRA pub.
Food is very tasty and good value for money- children's meals are wonderful. My three children (fussy eaters) cleaned their plates! Attentive staff and a wonderful landlady.
Highly recommend a visit.
We'll be back!
What a great little find today! Popped in for lunch, and tried one of the blackboard specials..Sea Bass & buttered caper sauce, salad and new potatoes...yummy! Great value too! Followed by Mascarpone ice cream with raspberry ripple...which was homemade. Definitely recommend this friendly little pub, and hope to return again soon!
Warm welcoming Dorset pub - food served all day - nice beer garden - lots of live music events in 5he summer - fab spot !
Lovely atmosphere and all the Staff are very friendly. The food is excellent and very reasonable priced. The Locals seem to like it which is always a good sign. Definitely worth a Visit while in the Area.
This place is fantastic food was great so was the staff thank you for a great after noon.
This is our fourth visit to wool. Excellent pub and food going back in August . Locals really make you welcome and the staff remembered us from before great pub
Great Service, Friendly Staff, and Convenient Amenities
I recently visited this restaurant and wanted to share my thoughts on the experience. While the food was not exceptional, it wasn't bad either—it fell somewhere in the "so-so" category. The flavors were decent, but I felt it lacked that extra touch to make it truly memorable. However, the other aspects of the restaurant made up for it.
The service was absolutely amazing. The staff members were friendly, attentive, and accommodating. They made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in, and their professionalism and helpfulness throughout my meal were commendable. Their warmth and attentiveness truly enhanced my dining experience.
One highlight of this restaurant is the wonderful staff. They were knowledgeable about the menu, eager to assist with any requests, and genuinely cared about ensuring my satisfaction. Their exceptional service definitely left a positive impression on me.
Additionally, it was a pleasant surprise to find free WiFi available. It's always convenient to have access to the internet while dining, whether for work, socializing, or simply staying connected. The provision of this amenity shows that the restaurant understands and values the needs of its customers.
While the food may not have blown me away, the excellent service, friendly staff, and the convenience of free WiFi make this restaurant a decent choice. If you're looking for a place with a pleasant ambiancebiance, attentive staff, and the ability to stay connected online, this restaurant might just fit the bill.
This place was great! Stumbled across the Black Bear after visiting the Tank Museum. We had one of the specials, pulled pork and fries which were really tasty and surprised me! And at a very decent price of £9.50! There are a few places to park and it was really nice to sit outside in the sun, friendly staff as well. I would definitely recommend to anybody in the area!
Lovely village pub in the village of Wool. Near Bovington tank museum and Monkey World. Compared to the surrounding areas The Black Bear is very reasonable. Light lunches and some specials always available. Great selection of ales and wines. Big garden and seating inside also. Plenary of parking around the area.
Cute local pub, good range of drinks
Simple warm food for a brunch
Clean and tidy toilets
Lovely and friendly staff, always there to help you
The restaurant is very near to wool station just 5 min walk. I really like the vegetable burger was so so awesome .They have a variety of alcohol, I didn’t like the cider a lot but beer was really good . Good place to chill with friends .I would really like to visit again
A Fantastic pub in a beautiful little village , it was a great place to enjoy a couple of pints after a hard day sightseeing. The atmosphere inside was really good . As we wasn’t locals we was treated as if we’d been in there a thousand times before . We didn’t get any food this time , but we did see the food other people were having and it looked really really nice also really generous portion sizes . So if you’re ever in the area it’s a must you visit The Black Bear . There’s a beautiful outside garden area you can use when the weather is on your side .
Lovely local pub with great grub - they have an outstanding Ale - Flack Double - not to be missed - call in and try it - you won't be disappointed
Stop off for dinner and didn't disappoint lovely traditional pub serving pub grub .
Not gastro or overpriced food.
Nice menu , very clean and friendly atmosphere.
We were just going to pop in for drinks with crisps and ended up with dinner and drinks instead. Both kids ate all their dinner and the adults left clean plates too. Reasonably priced too so next time we're in the area we'll be back for food once more
Slightly cliquey pub in nice location in village. Limited but.constantly changing menu which usually seems to include a vegetarian option. Various hotdogs are usually available. There are usually 2 ales and they have been in good condition except one time when it was changed without issue. Although perhaps a little expensive the pub seems to have a good local trade as well as visitors
The Black Bear in Wool is a wonderful pub.
The staff are brilliant and the service is fantastic.
It has a lovely village beer garden.
Good food at reasonable prices. I had a tagliatelle and my wife had macaroni cheese. Both tasty enough.
The menu size isn't massive but just enough to have choice. Location is good too and the atmosphere and staff were friendly.
Good portions were OK too, we just had mains in the end and didn't feel hungry afterwards.
Very friendly locals pub with a great selection of beers, enjoyed a couple of pints of Full Steam Ahead from the Isle of Purbeck Brewery
Visited for Sunday lunch whilst holidaying in the area, warm welcome and lovely little pub, lunch was nice but very small portions for the price, yes I am a big eater but the veg was about 5 carrots and a tea spoon of cabbage, oh I forgot about the cauliflower cheese which comes separately for 2 to share, the gravy was also a little bit watery for our taste, having said that perhaps we are just greedy and expected a loaded plate.
Took wrong turning from monkey world and found this. What a result. Great food, lot's of beers at a good price and friendly staff. Highly recommend.
Absolutely delicious crumble! Cute pub, very traditional vibe inside (complete with the staff dressed incredibly smartly for a country pub...), everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Would love to try the savoury food one day as the pudding was a dream.
