Nice historic hotel in a lovely village location with some good shops. The room was an OK size as was the bathroom. One or two little tired spots. TV control had an almost flat battery which was irritating. Hair dryer blew up (strange noise and smoking then completely stopped) but they quickly replaced it. Fire alarm went off at 7am one morning and everyone came out into the courtyard. No sign of staff and when someone did appear, it was just brushed off. Meals were on the pricey side but food was good and service was timely. The same menu applies in the bar and in the restaurant so we chose to eat in the bar. The kitchen struggled to cope with the number of guests at prime time breakfast time and some people were complaining about their breakfast, sending it back, cancelling it etc. Ours was fine and we enjoyed it. The waitress was polite and professional. Parking in the overflow carpark near to our room was fine and we paid £10 a night for this - always able to get a space although the hotel was quite busy. We will probably go back again in the future as the hotel is a 10 minute walk from Blenheim Palace which we visited for a day and really enjoyed, so we will want to make best use of our annual pass.
My husband and I had thoroughly enjoyable stay at The Bear; the room was beautiful with lovely oak beams and the bed was comfortable, we also had the option to have breakfast delivered to our room! All the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious and location is perfect for exploring Woodstock and Blenheim Palace which is a stones throw away from the hotel! Thank you for a lovely stay; we will be back!
I've stayed here twice now. My room was fabulous, it overlooked the main road in Woodstock and was very quiet.
The staff were lovely and helpful.
I will definitely go back again.

Hotel was lovely, charming, lots of character and great location. Lovely check in. Awful room service experience - ordered poached egg and smoked salmon on toast and it arrived with no toast. Then they came back with toast and no butter. Small things but meant the food was cold by the time I ate and ruined the experience
We were there during a heat wave so lack of air conditioning was a slight issue, but made up by the great service. Excellent food and drink. Great location. Suggest trying a close by restaurant called Back Lane. World class tapas.
The food was excellent and the room was very nice. I would stay here again. I liked that the Bear was located in the midst of town so that it was easy to walk to various restaurants and places to visit like Blenheim.
Afternoon tea is gorgeous! Scones are to die for! Lovely cosy afternoon, staff all very friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back.

Beautiful hotel with 700 years of history in the cutest town. Fabulous food at their restaurant. Gorgeous courtyard outside full of flowers. A great experience for us visiting from the USA. Not far from Blenheim Palace
Great location for visiting Blenheim Palace & Cotswold’s.
Lovely little village.
Only complaint hotel charges £10 per night to park and I think that should come within the price of the stay. Feels like a rip off. There was plenty of parking spaces.
We stayed at The Bear for 2 nights, the hotel is very well situated to visit Blenheim Palace. Hotel parking is a bit expensive at £10 per night, but the on street parking is limited to 4 hours, so not much choice. The room was very well appointed with free water and nice coffee. The only criticism would be the noise from the upstairs room as we could hear people walking around.
Had the pleasure of booking a table for lunch. The greeting was warm, welcoming and promptly escorted to our table. The selection of food is wonderful as is the drinks menu, and was not pressured to make any decisions on our menu choice, thus making a very relaxed affair. The food, when delivered to our table was not only presented fantastically but tasted even better.
Need to send my thanks to all the staff, they treated my elderly mother with warmth and grace. Would highly recommend if you are in the area.
Perfect location if you're visiting Blenheim palace. The staff were very professional and very well trained, and the room was amazing, spacious, and clean. The pillows were wonderful! The food was excellent, and the service overall was of high standard. Definitely staying again.
Lovely hotel set in a gorgeous location. Great for a business event.
Food and service let it down a little but over all really good.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. the room was great5 but in this heatwave it was difficult to sleep ( even with the fan)
It is the first time we have had fresh milk in the fridge and we really appreciated that.
Made a prearranged stop here with our 20 person tour group for lunch. The pre-selected food was excellent. Once the food was served, the service became nonexistent. Water pitchers stayed empty, when we asked for ours to be filled they just filled that one. There were two young women who spent most of their time chatting with the women in charge of the room, looking at photos on their phone.
