Five stars for food, lovely location and atmosphere, and our room was genuinely impressive. Service was generally good but slightly lacking in initiative, eg we had to ask for milk for our tea and coffee. Overall very happy would recommend and go back to stay and dine again.
Second time coming here for a meal. It's a lovely pub - very cosy and nice setting. The food is really nice and freshly made. The service unfortunately was pretty slow and not very attentive. We were waiting around 10 minutes just for our menus and it wasn't even that busy. Since my last visit they also charge you extra for any veg, mash etc. you'd like to add into your meal, instead of including it in the price of the meal. I would return for a drink and nibbles but I would be hesitant to return again for food. This is a shame because first time I visited I was really impressed.
Beautiful pub with incredible food and a lovely atmosphere. The inside is beautifully decorated and cosy and the beer garden is a good size and nice and tidy. The food is really top quality, would recommend the fish and chips and the sticky toffee pudding!
A fantastic service, great room, food and staff. Unfortunately I accidentally left a valuable item in my room and only realised when I got home. I immediately rang and explained the situation, the staff already had the item handed in and very kindly posted it back to me, would highly recommend!
Great rooms for an overnight stay. Lovely decor and modern bathrooms. Excellent breakfast. Just watch which room you get as the end room is close to the road, we still slept well, though.
We had lunch here midweek and the food cooked by the new head chef and team was amazing, me and my Mum had the tandoori hake and my Dad had the chicken burger and all were delish! The service was very fast and all the staff were welcoming and friendly to us. The pub is lovely inside, nice mix of old and new but not chabby by any means, also really nice baby changing facilities so it was great for my 5 month old. :)
A group of us booked for lunch and submitted our orders ahead of time - so slow service wasn't really acceptable. It took nearly an hour for our food to arrive. The food was fine when it did get there though.
The Harcourt Haven of peace and happiness
June 2023
Last minute decision to get away on my birthday 1st June. Looking after a parent with Dementia can take its toll and so I took the plunge with a friend to just go off into a random pub somewhere in Oxfordshire! Best decision.
From moment we got there to the moment we left. the hospitality was out of this world.
Cosy den like areas and something for everyone, except noise!
The Accessible room was excellent, cleanliness top marks, accessories and towels to. My thanks especially to Jude and Jasmine who were on duty 1st June and helped me celebrate and think about me for a change! Excellent cocktails Jude.
Judith made our breakfast morning as equally special and memorable. It was only a quick get away and albeit far too short but after my experience here. I know I will be going back to sample more delicious food, and exceptional customer service, wrapped in sincere warmth and hospitality ! see photos idyllic get away for peace, and a moment to call your own! Thank you all so much for making it a lovely birthday treat. :-) See you again soon Jo ;-)
Lovely pub with excellent food and comfortable rooms with classic decor and modern fixtures.
Thames walkers: It's a way from the river but only an easy mile from the path itself, which leaves the river in this section. Well worth the detour. Dogs welcome.
Food and service was Great. Visited with friends on a stag do and came here for a meal. We pre-ordered our food due to the size of our group everything was delicious. Great food, great staff and great service.
Great rooms. Great location. Fantastic food with very generous portions. Loved it, only problem is we couldn't stay longer
Although we only had wine and starters we're able to sit at a table on the lawn and the guy who was behind the bar couldn't have been more polite and helpful
This will be my first call when I am in area again. Well laid out disabled room and easy for wheelchair user. Nice staff. No reason not to return
Great value for money. Lovely rooms and comfortable bed. Clean, quiet and serves great food.
The hotel and restaurant are wonderful. The room was clean and well-furnished. The grounds are beautiful and the food was top-notch.
What's more, the staff were incredibly helpful and generous to me and my family. We came from London on a move to Oxford from the US. The staff did everything they could to help us feel comfortable and accommodated. I highly recommend.
Really good food and nice ambiance. The service was a little slow, but I do not mind when the food is good. Sunday roast was delicious
Very enjoyable over-night stay in this idyllic village inn which has been tastefully decorated to a high standard throughout. We came inside out of the cold to a very cozy and welcoming
reception area. Staff were friendly and check-in was brief and straightforward. The deluxe double room was beautifully clean, warm and cozy with interesting themed decor and soft furnishings. Bathroom was immaculate and modern. Shower had good controls over heating and flow.
The food in the evening was tasty but not spectacular, however the portions were very generous. The tables utilised here to seat two people are unnecessarily small and there was not enough room on the table for everything; thankfully there was a window sill that we used as an overspill for wine and personal posessions! There was a mix-up with the order and no chicken was provided in the Caesar salad ordered, however this was acknowledged by the staff and the item struck from the bill without prompting, so top marks for customer service here. Overall a very enjoyable experience and it's easy to see why the venue has overwhelmingly positive reviews.
