Early tea tonight for us down the road at the Kitchener. Last week I had the haddock starter and the cottage pie special. Tonight it was cheesy garlic ciabatta the home made duck pate and lamb shank. OMG - food fantastic, prices a quid or two below the town centre and a special mention for the hero of the Kitchener - Dragos. This man is by far the best barman in Witney and an excellent host. We have been here a number of times but only 3 since Adie left. It's a bit quieter, but the food is better and the menu a bit more manageable. Dragos remembers us each time we go, more so he also remembers our drinks and is a fantastic asset to this pub. The earlier poor review is appalling. Obviously some drunken so and sos. If you want all night champagne swilling go to Oxford. I like my village pub and will be back again and again. Cheers.
Very friendly staff & great food. Would recommend this place
I had a lovely meal at the lord Kitchener today. All the bar staff were very polite and helpful and there is such a great choice of gluten free food. Definitely coming back again.
Great food, excellent service. They Managed to serve kids meals first, how it should traditionally be everyWhere else, but not many places are following it lately. We had great time there yesterday.
Absolutely beautiful meal last night. The service and food were amazing. I would definitely recommend.
lovely meal and great menu but surprised that only 2 people where trying to run the whole show. service was excellent but a little slow at times but like I said with only 2 people serving food and doing the bar it was to be expected. will be going back again very soon
Lovely surroundings, fab food and excellent service. Very customer focussed & wanted to please. Will definitely visit again. Thank you very much.
We often come down as it's pretty local, but we love the staff, food, choice and atmosphere.
Home made pies and malteser cheesecake are exceptional.
If you try nothing else, try the cheesecake!
The food is amazing and the staff are very welcoming & kind !:) lovely place to eat !
Lovely food and friendly staff. My son has coeliac disease and there was a good choice for him and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely will be returning
Staff very friendly. Food excellent (had roast lamb). The Malteeser cheesecake was to die for.
Great pub, pies and people! This local country pub is a special gem.
Found this restaurant by chance The food was excellent, the staff very friendly and helpful. Try the new Gastro pies, my husband said it was the best he has ever tasted (so much for my cooking). A lovely evening. We will certainly return.
Went there with my fiancee for lunch and met other family member. Recieved a warm welcome fŕom the staff was seated promptly. Our meals was home-made all freshly cooked. The food was amazing definitely recommended a place to eat. We were greeted by Emma a nice young lady
Had a Birthday Celebration dinner for my daughter. Five people in the party. Four people went for a steak, as it was 30% off in Tuesday/Wednesday nights. The idea of small portions of dessert is an excellent idea, that works well. Very competitively priced, just the right amount after the lovely starter's and main course. Only thing I would comment on is two people ordered sirloin steaks, but they were all gone. Which at 7pm on a Tuesday 'steak night', is a bit short sighted. However, the alternative of rump was cooked to perfection.
Take away food was delicious, great service and good size portions
Looks small, but plenty of space inside. The chef is a genius - try the homemade coleslaw, or the amaretto custard. The steaks are superb, as is the chicjen supreme. Or you can design your own pie.....
I'm delighted to say that the last owner and kitchen staff have gone. The food is now fresh and cooked (and presented) very well.
Went for Tuesday lunch, they have a set menu for £10 (two courses).
Also al a carte if you want to try the wider board of fare.
We had the gammon (although I'm not a Brexiteer) and the fish and chips.
Both were of an unusually high quality for a lunchtime, set menu.
They hold a Wednesday night Burger Evening which we will be sampling very soon. The new landlord asserted that his burgers are pretty special and as good as In 'n Out, I'll report back when I've confirmed this.
Interesting and varied wine list, served in 'a proper wine glass'...
Good selection of draft beers and other inebriants.
Sticky toffee pudding was obscenely good. Salty, sweet, moist and utterly moreish.
Support your local publican.
Oh, they do all the C19 stuff too, in case you're worried.
Booked in for Sunday Lunch for me and my family and we weren't disappointed. Everything was amazing. We arrived a little before our scheduled time but was swiftly shown to our tables after a temperature check. Drinks ordered and after a brief look at the menu ordered our mains. After a short time all meals came out, everything was amazing great tasting food and a great family meal was had by all. What ever the curried veg on the plate was it was amazing and added a completely different dynamic to a Sunday roast. Thanks to all the staff we will be back again soon.
Wasn't too sure what we were walking into when we turned up, garden was a bit mishmash. But the service and food was exceptionally.
The knowledge and passion from the owner made for an excellent evening.
Menu had lots of options (not always common at the moment), all reasonably priced. We had a dairy intolerance in our party and they were very accommodating, happy to swap out items so we could have what we actually wanted - not only the items marked vegan.
Had an extensive wine list and the owner was VERY knowledgeable about everything and made great recommendations.
Unfortunately we aren't local and we're only visiting the area, otherwise we would become regulars. Highly recommend.
Management has changed since this review was originally posted so possibly does not reflect the current situation
I would highly recommend this eatery! The new management are friendly and welcoming and the food was superb. The local lamb was awesome, so tender! I look forward to coming again.
Brilliant! I had a lovely time at the pub with my wife, I ordered the steak and it was frankly scrumptious, and I mean scrumptious 🥺 lovely atmosphere, and I was met with the utmost respect and humility from the workers, they were very helpful 😀👍 would definitely recommend!
Went in for a celebratory lunch on a whim and so glad we did! The food was outstanding (try the pies, they're awesome), but what really made it special was the friendly, personable staff (who I assume are the owner considering how passionate they were). They're so friendly and made us and our kids feel relaxed and welcome. We'll be coming back plenty :)
We were a small party of 10 and were impressed by everything.
The food was good. Our waitress very attentive. Atmosphere excellent. Because it was a special occasion they had decorated the room and table beautifully.
Highly recommend this pub.
The best birthday of my life, friendly staff and fantastic service by the management. Highly recommend to all who wish to spend a closely intimate night with friends and family away from all the hustle and bustle. And the food was stunning with the juiciest burgers in all of Oxfordshire. Come to this pub!!!
Amazing Food! We stayed in the Cotswold Manor Estate for a scaled down COVID safe family gathering and ordered the set Mexican menu for delivery. The food was great! Piping hot with plenty of different dishes for all taste buds. Highly recommended, thank you!
It was a very nice cozy place to eat and chill out and the staff was very kind. The food was incredible and everything inside was nice with all the Christmas decorations.
Overall I personally think it was great. I definetly recommend going there with family or friends to have a meal or a drink.👍
Sunday lunch was lovely, meats very tender, veg on the verge of overcooked but still nice and plenty of variety. I had a small eaters meal which was more than enough, after the meal hubby complained he had no gravy with his chicken, he had already asked for a wine glass to be replaced and didn't want to complain anymore, we would certainly eat here again but a bit more attention to polishing glasses, the mirror and the odd cobweb wouldn't go amiss, I could see into the kitchen from where we were seated and it looked really clean as did the kitchen staff, plates could have done with being hot rather than luke warm, but in the whole an enjoyable experience..
A traditional and well presented restaurant/country pub.
The food is reasonably priced but portion sizes are a little small.
It took 25 minutes for our order to be taken and then a 30 minute wait for our starter.
The main course was really good but they failed to serve what was described on the menu.
As my first time there, it was still a wonderful evening with very friendly staff.
I'll reserve full judgement until going back.
