We booked the afternoon tea (£25 for 2 people; you have to book and can't just order it when you arrive) and chose the hot selection. When we turned up we were seated straight away and the food - huge, beautifully presented, amounts of it - arrived a few minutes later. They have really thought about what people would enjoy, and added some unusual touches such as the little bottles of milk shake. All of it was delicious.

Ate outside after a lovely walk along the river. Lovely food and very dog friendly -the waitress brought a clean water bowl out to our table without being asked .

I've passed the Red Kite so many times and always wanted to explore! It looks such a delightful traditional road hotel/pub and always seems so welcoming! I was really hoping for a pint of delicious Red Kite but sadly they cannot sell that but perhaps I can persuade Heineken to let them stock it for my next visit! I had the Wainwright I think , which was tasty, and I ordered a steak pie with mushy peas and chips. I had a super view over their nice outside garden at the rear and to Derwenthaugh Woods and the Red Kites' sky. The dinner was indeed lovely and because I'd been so impressed I had a Pudding, hot chocolate brownie with chocolate ice cream. Mmmmmmm! Waitresses and all staff very attentive, friendly and helpful and nice clientele! I'm sure you will be well impressed as I was! (Oh toilets good too and child friendly pub!)

Stopped in for a bite to eat and drink after a walk along the Derwent. Good food and great service and I was only sitting in the beer garden.

Went for lunch and got some great sandwiches! Staff were really kind and the atmosphere was chilled. Lots of toys in the corner for kids to play with. The food took a second to come out, but was worth it.

Excellent dog friendly pub with amazing pies. I was a little disappointed the Chicken Balti pie wasn’t available so went for the Chicken, Ham & Leek pie instead. Probably means I’ll have to go back again 😀 The pies do take 30 minutes to cook, which we didn’t mind, but it’s good to know that ahead of visiting if you are in a rush. They’re worth the wait!

Came to this lovely friendly pub for Sunday lunch. We weren't disappointed, the food was lovely, the staff were very friendly and the pub has a great atmosphere. It's also dog friendly which is a bonus. There's a great big beer garden at the back, lovely to sit out with a drink in the sun. Will definitely be back.

(Update aug 2022) Devastated- it changed hands in April and no longer the amazing menu by previous owners. As many other have pointed out, it's now just typical pub food and nothing like menu was before 😢 The only two items now that was remotely from the previous owners was the goats cheese and the prawns. Admittedly both were DELICIOUS, and I'd have again, but limited options not rushed to come back. Staff still amazing, and the decore etc is still really tastefull, classy and lovely. Just menu range is disappointing. Original review Feb 2022: Lovely decor, interior, ambiance, space, view and most of all an amazing menu with really pleasant simple well prepared dishes ! 5*

Nice place, good feel to it. Be great to bring kids to in the summer, the outdoor area looks really good and open straight onto the Derwent walk. I got the cheese and bacon topped potato skins and they were awesome, definitely recommend.

Stumbled upon this lovely pub after a long walk, very much in need of a drink and food. We ordered the Sunday carvery and honestly couldn’t fault it. Amazing food and the staff were all lovely. Amazing desserts too! Highly recommend.
