An absolutely first class experience. My wife loves Afternoon tea, and we have had a number of them in the Lake District including “The Belsfield Hotel” and “The Inn on the Lake” and I can confidently say this was the best afternoon tea we have had.
The service was exceptional from the moment we arrived, offering us ice and lemon water, down to explaining and describing the entire sandwich and cake ingredients finishing with a particular cake which would cleanse the palate. The food was a treat to savour. Absolutely top notch.
Very friendly staff made us feel welcome and will be returning...........excellent 👍

A most wonderful afternoon tea, I would personally say the best in England, also a friend ate from the lunch menu with that being perfect. Faultless 5* service and highly recommend with stunning surroundings.
Attended the opening evening and was really amazed at the transformation. With its stunning setting, the restaurant has now been refurbished into a sophisticated and beautiful venue. The quality of the food is exceptional, and is truly delicious. Well worth a visit for afternoon tea or lunch. Will return for definite!
Lovely evening meal preceded by a stroll round the grounds and down to the Lake.
Great food in a great location.
Thanks to the staff.
Wow!! We’ve just had lunch here today and it was an incredible experience! The food was out of this world, whilst dining in a relaxing atmosphere with our little girls. We’ll definitely be back and recommending to all of our friends.

Amazing! What a beautiful setting for an incredible experience at the Gaddum. The afternoon tea was fabulous, hats off to the pâtissier and the service on another level. Sourcing local food, wines and unique teas for the Gaddum really makes this experience something else... we will most certainly be back.
Everything is wonderful about this lovely restaurant. Amazing food! Lovely staff, and a fabulous atmosphere!
Delicious afternoon tea in a delightful setting with excellent service and beautiful views.
Could not have been better. Will definitely return. Thank you.
Great experience and a lovely setting with superbly attentive staff!!
Had a wonderful Gluten free afternoon tea yesterday! Thank you.
This place is a gem, you want to come here for an unforgettable experience.
I will class it as fine dining but we walked in with sport attire with no question asked.
Few things to note: this place is hidden away from many visitors. Park at main car park, pay the fee (I will suggest 3 hours) then speak to the waitress about the car park.
The restaurant was tastefully decor with Edwardian design.
More importantly, the foods surprised us with layers of flavour and creativity, which you would find at high end restaurant. For the price we paid, it was a good deal.
We had 3 courses at lunch time, and all of them were delicious and mind blowing.
Special thanks to Abigail who looked after us during the meal: good service attitude and She explained the ingredients of each food.
We highly recommend this place.
Fabulous food, great staff. Location was sublime and to top it off prices were very reasonable, well worth the drive to it
Wonderful lunch, catering brilliantly for coeliacs and dairy allergy. The staff were super helpful, attentive and kind, going out of their way to make sure we had a lovely lunch. Such a lovely place to come and eat, we will be back - a lot!
A hidden gem in Lake District.
The menu was great, the staff was lovely. The food was well-presented and well-priced and it offers much better value than most restaurants in Windemere or Ambleside. Our 3-course a la carte lunch menu with a glass cost £70, which can be easily cost £120+ in London.
The view from the restaurant is also phenomenal.
They only open until 4pm though. It can be a perfect dinner date.
Here are some photos.
Exquisite afternoon tea 🫖🍰
Amazing sandwiches (truffle cream cheese and cucumber being a surprise highlight!), excellent tea selection and the cakes were divine.
Lovely service and beautiful views.
What an utter delight! Such a warm greeting from extremely attentive staff. The food befits the surroundings / decorous & wonderful. We would call out Hugo who was keen we should have a good experience.
My son booked the Gaddum restaurant for my birthday lunch. The room was decorated for Christmas so beautifully and we sat by the fire. The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. I have an allergy to sulphites and the waiter was very diligent in checking the ingredients in the food and drink. The lunch was delicious and I was presented with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate on my dessert plate. Thankyou so much for making my day special for me. A visit to your wonderful gift shop after was the icing on the cake so to speak. What lovely staff you have working at Brockhole.
Great restaurant. Tried Cumbria shredded beef on loaded fries, fish pie and my & cheese. all tastes very good.
even tbr minced pie. surprisingly
This is the first time I've ever rated a restaurant on Google. I feel compelled to do so because of how wonderful our lunch was. The Gaddum is new and we stumbled upon it. It's both fancy and unpretentious at the same time. They bring you your drinks in the sitting room before taking you to your table when the food is ready. I had the ham and pea jumble and it was delightful; my mom was in heaven with the celeriac steak. All the ingredients were locally (or at least within Britain) sourced. And each meals was less than £13. One tip: do not confuse the restaurant with the cafe next door (which is fine but not worth comment).
Eat at The Gaddum. It may just be the highlight of your stay.
We had an excellent 3 course fine dining lunch here in a wonderful arts & crafts dining room. The food was well presented and tasted lovely & the waitress was very friendly and efficient. We hope to visit again and would definitely recommend
