Superbly looked after. Extreme patience with ordering and taking ages to eat and so lovely with the dog. Not hassled asking if everything was OK every 5 mins either (oh, and all food on plates! No slates or chopping boards in sight!) A choice of three doggie dinners so he was treated like a king too, and to top it all, a lovely potted primrose for me and mum for Mother's Day as we left. (A superb pint as well) Thank you!

One of the best meals I've had. Excellent food and so fresh, I had the steak & chips and it was so worth the wait. Expected a bit of a wait as we were a group of 7 and arrived 25 minutes earlier than booked, but for a small place they did very well and it was much better than expected. Ended up staying for 2 and 1/2 hours.

First time visitors, and what a treat! We knew you were dog friendly but didn't realise just how brilliant you are until we arrived and saw the doggie dinner menu. Absolutely great human food, and really friendly staff in a lovely country pub. We will be back soon!

A perfect retreat from a blustery winter walk, I was greeted by two smiling friendly bar staff, who, as the pub was rammed were rushed off their feet but did everything to make you feel at home and welcome. The ales I tried were fantastic, and a big roaring fire soon warmed me up as I chose some food from the excellent menu which came perfectly presented and cooked. A proper pub!

Very impressive with the new management of Christine and James. Quick service. Had the nicest suet puddings I have ever had. Like how the Greek lamb was also a starter and a main (in the burger) so I could have both menu items that piqued my interest. Have been back a few times since. Ash on the bar was excellent too. The atmosphere is very traditional and how pubs should be, but the vibe (helped by the cool music and new furnishings) makes it feel modern too. Great for families, couples and get-togethers.

I just love this place. After a 2 hour walk on the Danebridge Forest Circular up to Lud’s church nothing beats a spot of lunch at the Ship Inn. The multi room layout, the beer garden (weather permitting - it didn’t), the stone flagged floor, the warm atmosphere and friendly and welcoming James. James couldn’t be more helpful and he told the story of the Queen Mother (not) visiting but hanging around the bar area all the same. The food ordered, it was not long before hot fresh dishes appeared. My dining companion opted for sausages and mash served in a delicious gravy. The 3 x sausages were wonderfully tasty (ok, they weren’t my order but I nicked half of one 😊). Having ummed and ahhd over which dish to plump for and, having conferred with James, I decided on the beef cobbler with suet pudding and winter vegetables served in a rich gravy. Good choice my son. My other consideration was fish & chips but decided I’d have those on a Friday when it is served with bread and butter and a pot of tea for a special Fish Friday price. Dedicated driver had 2 x pints of Diet Coke and co-diner had a glass of Pinot Grigio and the bill came to about £45. Not bad at all. The food, the decor, the atmosphere, the flagged floor, the welcome, the service and the food make this place a gem. Don’t tell anyone or you’ll never get a table 🤫 Thank you to all the Ship Inn team.

The food here is absolutely stunning! Had one of their specials which was a seafood pasta dish, probably the best pasta I have ever had. Seriously recommend this place!

This is a lovely country pub in idyllic surroundings. The menu is pub classics but with some nice additions, especially on the specials. Between us we had the ham hock terrine, tomato, basil and pesto soup, hummus and chicken skewer starters, plus the beef suet pudding and burger and fries mains. All was lovely. The local beers on tap were very nice too. It was busy when we came but service was prompt and friendly. Highly recommend this place.

Called in after a local hike and was very impressed with the food. The vegan red tai pie was absolutely delicious with chips and a lovely selection off fresh veg. The rest of my party were equally impressed with the steak and ale pie (fabulous pastry) and salmon (perfectly cooked). Pleasant friendly service, will definitely be back!

What a fantastic little find - we ventured here after walking at Luds Church and we were not disappointed! We went in for lunch and were extremely impressed with the setting, service and menu. The jerk chicken was beautifully spiced and juicy, the pie of the day was well filled and delicious and the portions incredibly generous! Definitely one to visit.

Superb birthday meal. Highly recommend the sharing platter and the jerk chicken is amazing. Just falls off the bone. Puddings were delish and the espresso martinis were the perfect end to a delightful meal. Staff were also highly attentive, really friendly and welcoming. We will 1000% be back.

It’s a wink wink nudge nudge kind of a gem of a place in Wincle. A place where we feel smug to know about that others probably don’t know about but absolutely should know about. Visited tonight for their steak night (£35 for 2 people, bottle of wine included) and I have to say it was the BEST steak meal we have ever had at a pub! Excellent service, excellent food, excellent atmosphere. We’re looking forward to returning for their other special food nights like Fish Friday. Thank you for being a fantastic public house.
