The Westgate hosted our wedding reception on 7th April this year and were amazing help throughout the planning process and on the day. We had exclusive use of the pub for our 90 guests following a ceremony and the Register Office across the road. The management (and staff generally) were incredibly supportive and helpful, allowing us to decorate the night before, ensuring that our schedule was followed on the day, and giving us complete control over the playlists and food. We also booked out all ten of the pub's lovely rooms for wedding guests, which worked really well. The food provided by the pub was amazing (as noted by all the guests) and perfect for a relaxed wedding. We chose a range of buffet options and the pub catered for all dietary requirements. My partner and I would highly recommend The Westgate to anyone in Winchester looking for a relaxed and fun wedding reception venue, or any other similar event. Similarly, we would recommend the rooms to anyone looking for a comfortable and easy stay in Winchester. Breakfast is included in the room cost and absolutely lovely! Huge thanks again to everyone at the pub who made our day so perfect!

The westgate is an absolutely fantastic place to both stay in and have a meal/drink in. I only stayed for the one night but every member of staff, both in the evening when I checked in and this morning for breakfast and checking out, were professional as well as being friendly, relaxed and social.
I have already booked another night's stay!
Just enjoyed the lamb shank for lunch. Delicious, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. The new refurbishment looks so inviting; would recommend.
Great place. A modernised, old-world pub. Room was charming, nicely appointed and the old warped floor was fun, maybe not easiest access if thats a consideration! Definitely going to be my spot for business travel in Winchester!
Arrived hopefully for a Sunday Lunch. Interesting selection of starters and the Chef was willing to amend his main course menu to accomodate my particular request. Atmosphere pleasant and the staff friendly and helpful.
Lovely staff, lots of lovely gin and even more lovely, 15% discount offered for NHS staff.

If you haven't eaten here, why not? The lamb was amazing and as for the homemade icecream - well you've tasted nothing like it. Go and see for yourself.
Be going back for sure. Highly recommend the Sunday roast.
Sehr hübsch mit dem Pub unten drin. Dort wird gefrühstückt, ein und ausgechecked. Man ist mitten in der Stadt. Scheinbar handelt es sich um ein altes Stadthaus. Die Flure sind winzig, was aber Charme hat. Es werden im Pub lokale Biere angeboten. Das ist gewöhnungsbedürftig aber interessant.

The guiness is excellent
First visit since it has reopened. Probably one of the nicest bars in Winchester now. Great atmosphere, great selection of tipples. Menu also looked interesting.
It's lovely to see an old run down pub revitalised and made new in such great way. It feels an exciting place to be now and very lively. The foods good too. Looking forward to many more visits.
We had our wedding reception at the pub and it was perfect, can't recommend it highly enough. Ben and the team were very helpful throughout. Food was great, decorations made the pub look amazing, the arrangement of the pub was ideal for a DJ/dancefloor, seating areas, a sit-down meal, speeches, etc., plus it's adjacent to the registrar's office.. Top feedback from all guests too.
The Westgate is a lovely building in a fantastic location at the top of Winchester High Street. The pub itself has had some ups and downs over the years, but it's in good shape now. We stayed for a night and were impressed by the ease of the check in and check out, the comfort and decor of our room, and the excellent breakfast. Many thanks to the staff for their warm welcome, we would be very happy to stay here again.
Brilliant venue in the heart of Winchester. Easy access by car and foot, super friendly staff and tidy, well kept rooms and bar. They have live Music and a pub quiz too! Good selection of drinks and food. Will definitely be back

Nice friendly pub not far from the station in Winchester. Friendly service and nice atmosphere. Holds fun weekly quizzes and themed quiz nights (Lord of the rings and Game of Thrones coming soon). Only had bar snack food but it was brought quickly and tasted good.
Well what can I say,rooms brilliant for price.pub with good beer.and a barmaid that run her socks off,she has done you proud.if ever in winchester this would be first port of call
Characterful Pub with keen young staff. We went on a quiz night (Gavin and Stacey theme). The quiz was well run, food served beforehand was limited in choice, presumably as a result of the need to get 40 odd meals served all together. The food standard was good and the evening was great fun. (We've booked for the next one - Lord of the Rings).
Used as reception for our wedding and was absolutely perfect. We had maximum 28 guests to cater for and the food and drinks were divine. Reserved the restaurant area and members of the public continued using the bar so happy we were kept separate. Guests also used the rooms for before and after and we heard good things from all of them.
A good pub for drinks and food. The beer was kept well here and the food was good too. Its not far from the station, so handy to eat in before heading to the station.
Just returned from a lovely weekend away at the Westgate to celebrate Mother's day. The location is superb with easy access to all the attractions Winchester has to offer. As for the hotel itself our accommodation was clean, comfortable and cosy. Ben the general manager and staff went out of their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable. For the main event the Mother's day meal was excellent. The unexpected chocolate brownie treats for the ladies were delicious. I cannot recommend highly enough a visit to the Westgate. Thank you to all the staff.
Very nice quiet (at least the day I went) pub. Nice menu although check for items as not all advertised was available. Table order over an app or at the bar.
