Lovely pub that we finally got to visit! We are regulars to Winchester and knew we had to visit here to tick it off our list from the little pub group. It did not disappoint and not even the weather could dampen our mood once we arrived. We ended up having dinner here after Jack showed us the evening menu and it was delicious. Was great to hear that they now have accommodation and may just have to try it out next time! Fantastic place and highly recommend!!

New favourite place to eat! Been going since December, they've really changed the place for the better and all staff so helpful and friendly. Buggies can be a pain with doors and every time a member of staff insists on helping me. Will be returning lots more!

Excellent establishment, stylish, very comfortable, good service and the most delicious food. Our room (no 3) was very comfortable and the owners have anticipated the needs of travellers very well. Highly recommended.

Came across the pub pretty serendipitously and really like it. Beautifully decorated interior, wooden bar and exudiates plenty of historic vibes. Excellent beer garden with designated play area for children. Staff very welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be back and hope to book a room for the night

Excellent food, rooms, decoration & people. My only gripe is that it's a bit out of the way

Really great find, a lovely local pub. We visited from Bournemouth for the fireworks and enjoyed a stay overnight in a comfortable bed. Highly recommended.

A wonderful pub with so much character. We were made to feel very welcome by Doug and our room was lovely and so well equipped. Very comfortable bed and the room was spotlessly clean. Grenola, yoghurt, mini pastries, fresh orange juice and waters where complimentary in our mini fridge. We will definately stay at The King Alfred again when we're on business. No wonder this is such a busy little pub! They have thought of everything to make their guests welcome :) Thanks Doug and team and hope to see you again. xx

Great pies. I had venison and bacon. My wife had another one I forget but we both cleaned up! Great food. Incredible service with a smile right when you walk in. Awesome vibe too, well decorated place. Oh and a great mojito also.

Popped in here for a quick pint on a visit to the area. Was nice to find somewhere local and friendly which also wasn’t too far from the station. A bit of a shame that food wasn’t possible past about 6 on a Sunday, but that’s fairly standard in pub I guess. The first ale I had didn’t taste great so I took it back and the barman happily replaced it with something else. It was a nice visit to the pub and it had a nice relaxed feel to it. Would be a nice cosy spot in winter and it seemed to have a nice big garden too, although we sat inside.

We stayed one night at a room above the pub and also enjoyed a fabulous dinner. 10mins walk to cathedral. Our room was small but elegant and comfortable. The pub is closed in the morning but muffins and coffee is made available in the room, a nice touch.

The food is unbelievably delicious! We had a rabbit pie with triple cooked chips. The place is a little gem with its stunning, eclectic pub decor; is dog friendly, quite close to the high street but you need your GPS to find it.

Delicious food, staff always smiling, helpful, and very kind, great location, big garden, even a play area for children. Elegant, cosy indoor atmosphere in winter and beer garden in summer. What else could one ask for?

What can i say. Absolutely lovely few days here. Cannot fault anything, wish we had booked for longer. Rooms comfortable, clean and the breakfast option was lovely. The pub itself was quirky , nothing matched but it all fitted. The owner has definitely got a good eye for antiques. Food and staff lovely. Highly recommend this pub and would definitely come back

Visited the pub after a day of walking the St James Way - beautiful inside and the beer garden is amazing! Love how they've created separate spaces outside.

Lovely rooms, nice helpful staff. Even though they do not offer a cooked breakfast, the "en suite" one stored in the fridge is a nice surprise. Delicious Muffin, yoghurt and granola sets you up for the day. High Street only a 10 minute walk away.

Great pub, loads of atmosphere stayed overnight, rooms were clean and had ensuite, food was quick hot and not overpriced, easy to park as pub gave people who stay in their rooms a permit for the car

Lovely cozy pub. Sunday roast is delicious with big Yorkshire pudding and a tasty nut roast as a veggie option. However wine was not great, tasted watery for the price it had.

What a lovely pub! We stayed in the twin room upstairs. It was gorgeous, clean, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was unique and a lovely touch. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. We also had dinner here and the food was excellent! Free parking was so helpful, as well as being the perfect short walk to the city centre. We would absolutely love to stay here again!
