We loved our stay at The Lion Inn. The location is wonderful and we had booked a table for a late Sunday lunch too, which was a great shout....the food was fabulous! The atmosphere was great, we found the staff really friendly. Our room was comfortable and the small touches such as homemade biscotti was a lovely touch! Our dog Darcy was very warmly welcomed too, which helped us to relax and enjoy our stay thoroughly.
Went for Sunday Lunch after a long walk with the dog. Absolutely fantastic service as soon as I walked through the door (more fuss for the dog than myself), and the roast beef was easily up there with the best I have ever tasted. Becoming by far one of my favourite Gloucestershire pubs, such a lovely atmosphere. Will be back
Had the most amazing afternoon at the Lion Inn today with the family. I’ve always loved this place. Being central to winchcombe as soon as we arrived Maria made us feel so welcome. She took the time to help us chose our drinks and food explaining the dishes on the menu. She made us feel so welcome. I had a burger as it was national burger day and my partner had fish and chips. Phenomenal!! Superb food. Proper portions and all super fresh. Great selection of wine and beers. The beer garden is always a delight and it was great to see so many people staying in the rooms they have. Even though we live just down in Cheltenham will most definitely be recommending everyone to take the short drive out. A winner!!
We had a lovely meal in The Lion last night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Both meals were super, and plentiful, and the service was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere in the bar is really lovely - but even better in the winter with the log fire fire roaring!
We had a wonderful birthday celebration here last weekend. Nothing was too much trouble. Maria even guided me on how to make my wife’s birthday cake which we enjoyed at the end of our meal. Thank you!
Booked a table here after seeing previous reviews.
I will sum up our experience with this…
The following day we had lunch at James Martin’s Grill in Broadway.
The meal at The Lion was of a much higher standard and a treat to enjoy.
The Menu at The Lion was refreshingly adventurous for a pub dining venue but was executed with aplomb!
A definite recommended dining experience.
Thank you, we will be back.
Lovely country pub with amazing food and to top it all off they are also dog friendly!! The portion sizes were very generous and the homemade dessert menu is second to none! I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area!
We went for a couple of drinks whilst the sun was out and upon reading the menu, stayed for lunch. We enjoyed the ambiance in the garden, the service was fantastic and the food was absolutely delicious! It's also a beautiful building with a bright and well-kept restaurant and has a wonderful feature fireplace that I imagine is very inviting in the winter months! We will definitely return soon.
Great atmosphere and a fantastic team! Good food (the steak for dinner was A1). Nothing was too much trouble and, for us, the location was ideal. Public parking at the rear of the hotel made access easy and reasonably priced too. Only slight niggle was the shower in the en-suite - needed fixing and tricky to operate, plus, in the bedroom, a broken window-pane covered with bubble-wrap. Huge thanks to all the staff, and I won't mess around with the cafetiere, I promise!
We stayed with our 1 year old, the room was amazing, also provided us with a travel cot. The pub & restaurant are both very well kept, great aesthetic & atmosphere. The food was delicious, we had an evening meal & breakfast. Staff were very friendly & very helpful throughout. We will 100% be going back
We had dinner and drinks here whilst on holiday in Winchcombe. Food was really good and worth the slightly highish price. I had the market fish off the day (Whole Plaice) and my wife the vegetarian risotto like dish. We both had the panacotta to finish. All food was of a high standard and service friendly and fast. Recommended!
Visited whilst away for the weekend.
Warm welcome, great playlist, cosy ambiance and delicious food.
All courses perfectly cooked, presented beautifully and tasting delicious.
Good value cocktails and the ability to bring our pup made for a great Saturday.
If in the area again, would 100% return.
Very nice! I brought an American friend who had never had a pint of 'proper' beer before - we were not disappointed! Excellent pint of Butcombe Original. Very tasty, sensibly priced food in a peaceful and pleasant garden. Good service. Just be aware: service charge is automatically added to the bill. Recommended.
Lovely old pub with excellent accommodation. The room was top class with everything you would need . The staff were very helpful and we had great attention from the jolly Marie at breakfast. A lovely few days in this picturesque town .
We stayed a couple of nights here in July. The room was beautiful and the bathroom very well appointed and clean. Had a very good nights sleep on a comfortable bed. We had a dinner and two breakfasts here and the food was delicious. The assistant manager, Cleo, went out of her way to pick us up in a nearby town when we could not get a taxi ! That level of service was unexpected and very much appreciated!! We will gladly return to The Lion Inn should we be back in the area!
