Driving past and this quaint restaurant caught our eye with a sign stating "If this isn't the best calzone you have tasted before then you can have your money back" I could not even lie to get a free calzone. The Tex Mex was amazing the flavours the cheese yummy.
The ice cream home made too was worth the drive alone from York to Gios.
Gio himself such a lovely guy, friendly good fun and allowed my wife to make her own dough arrangement (a flower and a heart) fully recommend this place and next time I'm passing I will pop in.
What a gem of a place. Top class food, spoilt for choice, excellent service & a holiday feel about the place.... We came across Gio’s on our last night, as we were camping nearby.... pity we didn’t find it the previous night!! My hubby had the rump steak calazone while I went for the tex mex..... the idea was that we would share half of each!! It was too good to share!! The rhubarb & ginger ice cream was equally as good. Just a shame it wasn’t open for breakfast as we set off for home on Monday morning.... we would have certainly stopped off again!! Well done, this is well worth visiting ✅
WOW this place is fantastic!! We went for the set menu and we were blown away by the flavours, quality and service. This place only gets better!! It was the perfect place to take my mum on Mothers Day. I will be back here again soon!!
Had a lovely meal with some of me family great food lovely ice cream take your own wine/beer great happy place xx
A hidden delight my friend and I throughly enjoyed our visit ! We were greeted by a friendly who offered some homemade ice cream to try which was amazing! We ordered the calazone garlic chicken the best I ever tasted and please try the lime spice it certainly works with it ! We had a great time and will definitely be back to see the friendly owner who made us laugh x
Drove past on New Years Day and noticed it was open, grabbed a couple of their Calzone pizzas. They were delicious!
Very friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. Would definitely return & recommend to friends and family.
Keep doing what you're doing
Fantastic place with even better food, Had a good chat with who I presume was Gio, bought some nice spice from him also great homemade ice cream..
A cool quirky place with something different to offer in terms of the atmosphere and food. Don't drive past next time! I think they do takeout if on way home too. Contact the owner, who is very friendly and helpful.
Absolutely fantastic! Amazing service and delicious food! Child, dog and wallet friendly, the Calzones are full of flavours finished off with the best ice cream ever! We will definitely be popping in again!
Came on Saturday night after Dunnington Bonfire- what a lovely little place Gio’s is. The staff were welcoming and the food lovely - for a price you’d struggle to make it at home for!
Highly recommended and will definitely be coming again
I finally got to eat at Gio’s today with my son. We had a calzone each which was without doubt the best I’ve tasted by a long way. We then polished off Gio’s fabulous home made ice creams. Along with Gio’s fabulous customer service this was a fabulous lunch (4Inch calzone and drink £5!!) outstanding! We will be going back very soon.
Amazing, excellent food, great atmosphere and bring your own alcohol too... 3 courses for £10, every course was delicious... definitely our new place to eat... xx
Brilliant Italian breakfast with great coffee, very good service a must visit for all cyclists when planning a route near Pocklington.
Absolutely fantastic! Food is delicious and the chef is amazing so passionate about his food and so much knowledge behind the ingredients.
Everyone has to try the passion fruit gelato, it will change your life - oh and the lime seasoning too!
Might be a little bias seen as I've been a regular since day one... Just popped in tonight for a quick bite, ended up staying for afew hours! Great food, such a good atmosphere.
Fantastic food. Not a massive choice but enough of a choice that's it's not complicated.
Vegetarian and Vegan options.
Very friendly staff, always polite and helpful.
An eco responsible company. Biodegradable cups.
Well worth a try. And not expensive.
Met my lads for a catch up and a bite to eat. We’ve been driving past Gios for 3 years and so decided to pay it a long awaited visit.
We got a friendly greeting from the beautiful resident dog. We all opted for a calzone each, spicy tex mex, garlic chicken and pepperoni.
A friend had suggested asking about the roasted cauliflower and pickled onions so I did as they weren’t on the menu.
We settled down with a drink and caught up on each other’s lives and before long our food arrived.
8” parcels of tasty goodness. We were all of the same opinion. Delicious and filling. So filling that we were going to pass on dessert when Gio persuaded us to share a plate of home made ice creams. Vanilla and coconut, plum and cinnamon, mango and rum and raisin. All delightfully subtle but fabulous.
Oh. Almost forgot the roasted cauliflower and pickled onions. We’d never seen this combination before but it went down well with all of us. A lovely contrast to each other and nice accompaniment to the calzone.
The atmosphere was relaxed and trattoria like. A great place to meet for a casual excellent value traditional Italian meal with friends or family.
We won’t leave it another 3 years. Make sure you don’t too.
Great place , so glad we called in , really friendly host / chef , the food is top class and the ice cream is really tasty , you must try the mango and ginger , thanks for a great experience,
Absolutely lovely little place. Accommodated for a large group of us, very friendly staff and the food was beautiful.
Had a spontaneous trip out down the A1079 to a I’ve driven past but never been in. What a lovely little quaint place, the food is awesome and it has a super friendly dog. What more could you want? The Calzones are amazing. Environmentally friendly cutlery etc is a bonus. All in all a great place to eat.
Great food and excellent service. Let the kids make their own creations with pizza dough and baked them. Home made ice cream is not to be missed. FYO you can bring your own booze. My only complaint is about the use of disposable plates and cups etc. Although these were of the 'green' variety, unless they are disposed of correctly they will not decompose or be recycled and everything was being put in one rubbish bin. Kids loved the place so next time we'll bring our own Tupperware!
What a lovely place! Doesn't look like a typical place to dine on your way pas, but you will be so wrong, like I was.
I will definitely be taking the kids for Calzone and drop in for an Italian breakfast. The owner is a lovely guy, warm welcoming and friendly. I definitely recommend a visit.
Love this place! Small simple menu - variants of calzone. The owner's a really cheerful guy and he's got a great dog. The venue is a converted shipping container, and a great place to stop off on the 1079 between Beverley and York. Toilets in an adjacent building are functional.
Always impressed by the depth of quality delivered by Andy and team. I held my birthday celebration here and received excellent service. There's a lot more n offer that pizza pockets. On the strength of attending my birthday party in June 2019, many friends who would not have ordinarily dined at Gios, have returned again and again and introduced others. I encourage you to give it a go and you wont be disappointed. get the roasted vegetables and pickles as part of the set menu. All palates catered for including vegan. You won't go wrong.
This is a nice, casual diner that is perfect for a very casual bite to eat. The calzones are made with fresh dough and the recipes are very tasty. The service is always extremely good, friendly and helpful. Kids get some dough to play with and their creations are backed I the pizza oven. Cash only.
