A very quick pint of Old Boston plum porter before rushing off to watch Barnsley at Wigan Athletic. Lovely proper old fashioned pub. Great choice of real ales.

Visited on a quiet Monday afternoon. The bar staff were friendly and the real ale, as usual was in great condition. Sports photos adorn the walls and sport is shown on tvs. Highley recommended.

It was a busy night, Wigan Warriors were playing Hull Giants so there was a lively pre & post match atmosphere helped on its way by friendly staff and an entertaining beer selection.

Great old fashioned boozer. Good selection of beers/ales, well priced and nice atmosphere. Decent beer garden when the sun's out too. A bit off the beaten track from the other town centre pubs but definitely worth a visit

I always call in this pub when in Wigan . Basic pub with no frills . They've got some nice beers . People leave you alone and let you get on with your drinking . Plenty of TV screens to watch the horse racing . Would definitely recommend this pub .

Dropped in for a couple of pints. Don t serve food.but will let you take your own food in to eat. The service is good a efficient, staff are friendly. ales are available, with 2 salopian brewery ales available, unknown in the modern world. This as to be a must if you are visiting Wigan. We will always come here. Cash only. Plenty of other choices available. Not a lot of parking if any at all, entrances for all people.ground floor. Long may it stay open.

A Wigan classic - decent beer, screens for the rugby, and a little sun trap out back if you time it right...

A brilliant pub if you like quaffing real ale or commercial beers and ciders. It's like a trip back in time with the clientele being mostly male,a bit like the old tap rooms and snugs of yesteryear. Televisions installed so you can keep up to date with the nags and football. It would be good if you they could have an automated railway timetable for Wigan Wallgate and Wigan Central for the trains as this is a convenient meeting place for people travelling to Liverpool,Manchester,Southport,Preston,Lancaster and other points on the railway. Last but not least very friendly bar staff who don't keep you waiting at the bar. First class service.
