Lovely restaurant had the Sunday dinner and couldn’t fault it. All home cooked food the beef melted in my mouth and the Yorkshire puddings where fab. The Bakewell tart for dessert was really tasty. Highly recommend this bistro, friendly staff and great value for money.
Great food, Great staff and great value for money. Went with family for a meal and wasn't left short of expectations. Would highly recommend for a casual dining experience or family outings. 5*
Really enjoyed Tapas Night at The Black Pepper. Lovely atmosphere and the staff can't do enough for you. The bring your own alcohol is a brilliant idea and I will definitely be back soon to try out the main menu. Excellent for a newly opened restaurant and the desserts are to die for !!
Been here tonight with my partner. The food is really good, nice cosy environment and the staff are really nice. Would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Fillet steak cooked to perfection. From starter to desert was absolutely amazing. Cozy atmosphere in a nice location. Will return and already booked for our Christmas party.
Had a fabulous birthday dinner with my uncle and his partner!! Thanks for fabulous food and I can't wait to come back!

Great menu will have to go back to try more of their delicious food.
Attended the opening evening with family and friends. The food was amazing , will be visiting again very soon!
Absolutely loved the food and will definitely be back again soon
Giving this place a 5 star primarily for the dessert, but also for the potential as it’s great to see a place like this in Wigan.
The starter of pigeon was cooked well and the pear, fig and Gorgonzola went well with it. The salmon risotto was a little under seasoned and the egg was a bit watery. Salt and pepper comes in little packets - prefer it to be in grinders which most places have reverted to now.
The venison main was cooked well, with gorgeous Parmesan mash. The flat iron steak was beautifully cooked, and the fries were crisp and fresh - this too was a little under seasoned, and the pepper sauce was unfortunately a bit unpleasant. The desserts were to die for though!
Service was great, staff were lovely. Would recommend trying this place.
Walked in without reservation on Sunday at 6pm.
Given a warm and friendly greeting and they found us a table. Loved the informal feel of a family run restaurant. My partner could only have a starter due to health problem, this was met in a helpful manner and served promptly at our request.
Bit of a wait for my choice of Sunday roast but it was worth it as it was excellent quality and I reluctantly could not eat it all.
No room for a dessert ☹️.
Wine by the glass was good quality French Vouvray and my Chilean pinot noir was equally good. Amusingly, wine bill was £15 more than the food as we both had a second glass.
Next time I would order a bottle of either wine just to balance the cost.
A nice experience with friendly service and happily recommend a visit
WOW - OMG - A little restaurant right opposite the Famous Wigan Town Hall with its Red brick building is another hidden gem and If the owners carry on their path of excellence then it won't be the Wigans Red brick Town Hall that people will want to see, but they be queueing for THE BLACK PEPPER RESTAURANT.
I had seen reviews on Facebook about this new place and my wife & I decided lets try their Sunday Roast Lunch. My wife is not as mad about food as I am..well I'm bloke us blokes love our food right !!! but when my wife says That's the best Sunday Roast she has ever had (apart from homemade of course) then its GOOD.
Just a husband & wife (i think) run this amazing place - they cook, service, clean everything. Just a woman/man running the show and how well they are.
The Black Pepper restaurant is tasteful decoration, all matched the background music, nice enough to hear but lower enough to talk quiet and still be heard.
Always checking you are ok and happy....it's perfection.
There menus cover all different tastes and seem willing able to offer alternatives and change things to please well anyone.
This is a place that has to be one of those restaurant you must visit...enough said
Wonderful food as always, and a great menu. Staff are very welcoming! Our favourite restaurant in Wigan!
Look don't muck about. Get in here and eat your fill and then come back and eat the other things you couldn't, coz time and fat. Best meal I've had in Wigan hands down. Rice pud and lamb burger was choice!
First time to try this restaurant really nice little restaurant staff was more than helpful food was absolutely amazing I definitely must try it’s coming to Wigan hidden gem keep up the good work guys
Lovely little gem of a place in Wigan Town Centre, opposite Town Hall steps in Library Street. Visited many times on different days/times, never disappointed, food is ALWAYS delicious and very well presented (they have such a good eye for detail), our favourite place locally for a great meal out whether we want steak, a la carte, Sunday lunch or tapas (which is so different to the normal tapas you'd expect - like small whole meals, fish with crispy chips and mushy peas/chinese duck on sweetcorn/brisket and beans). Run by a great couple (Beki and Andy) who know what they are doing and long may it continue.
We had a brilliant meal here - we were visitors from Bath and it was the best meal we’ve had in Wigan. Great menu choice and the food was delicious. The staff were really friendly and excellent service.
I didn't really know what to expect going here. Never heard of it before, but the reviews lived up to expectations! Really great food put together by a chef with taste and adventure. With it being a smaller restaurant, you can see into the kitchen and see the food being made and feel a part of the magic.
I had been told it was BYOB but on arrival this was wrong. They don't have a bar to order from/sit at, but they do have alcohol to serve and welcome BYOB.
The brisket Sunday roast was delicious and very well cooked. Just about managed to do justice to the generous portion of sticky toffee pudding. Very friendly staff gave a warm welcome to all.
Group night out. Food exceptional, and surprised me with the quality.
Sadly not licenced to sell alcohol, but allows to bring your own.
I've been here a few times and it's always amazing food. The best place in Wigan to eat out
We went for our first time for a family meal will definitely be going back it was great 👍
Wow what An absolute find. The food we had was Devine and the service was slick ever though it was Busy. Excellent value for money. To be honest I think they are under changing for the fantastic dishes they serve. Will return next time we are in Wigan.
Very tasty food indeed! Good job to da chef!
Had the most lovely meal celebrating my birthday atmosphere was lovely and the food was unreal will absolutely recommend and revisit thankyou for a lovely evening 🥰xx
Had starter, main and dessert (never normally do desserts) but all 3 were delicious.
This restaurant is a personal favourite of ours.
The service is friendly and prompt and the food is amazing.
It’s bring your own beer with no corkage fee so no more having to drink fizzy lager (my preference, but you can bring your own fizzy lager if you want to🍻)
Andy is a wizard in the kitchen and his menu is really imaginative with so many flavours. High quality ingredients make distinctive, well balanced flavours. The courses are a little more expensive than other places, but the quality is far far higher. The bring your beer policy makes the overall cost the same as inferior restaurants, but with a much better experience.
Becky is so welcoming its like coming home to your family but with way better food.
Give it a go, it’s No1 for a reason
