While visiting the area the Anchor Inn was recommend by a local gentleman. We visited 3 nights in a row as the food was that good, the menu was varied and so tasty and good portion sizes that I cannot comment on the desserts as I was that full. The staff where friendly and polite, lovely atmosphere and background music. Definitely worth a visit
We had our family xmas meal and it was absolutely perfect. The staff were lovely, friendly and professional. The atmophere was amazing, so calm and happy and the organization was second to none. The starters were delicious, the meal was cooked to perfection , the puddings are to die for and the presentation was best ive seen in a long time. The whole day ran smooth and was a lovely happy day. We will definitely be returning again and highly recommend . Thank you to all staff for a perfect day ..
One of the best meals we have had for a long time! Can’t wait to come back! The home made pie is to die for! Friendly service and top quality food. What more can anyone ask for!! Child friendly too which makes it even better. Thanks so much! X
We visit on a regular basis not always for food but when we fo eat its the best I have had in long time good portions at a reasonable price. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The views are spectacular and in the summer a lovely place to sit out. Love it
Me and my partner visit as regularly as possible as we love the food however we would definitely recommend this restaurant based on their staff, especially the man working today between 3-4 I don’t recall his name, he was so helpful and understanding when our daughter wasn’t well and accommodating and friendly. Couldn’t be happier with the food or the service every time.
We've had such a good time, room was gorgeous, staff and owners are lovely and views to die for xxx food absolutely amazing too
Stayed over night and would highly recommend this place. Immaculately presented rooms with views of the countryside. Friendly staff and delicious food. Would definitely stay here again
We stopped off for a quick bite, our expectations weren't high as it was off the beaten track. Lovely surprise for us, it's a great place, just off the A68, great ale, service and amazing choice of food, all freshly prepared. Chilli was delicious, as was the shrimp, off the Born in the USA range. Highly recommend! Waitress was lovely and allowed me to sample the ale before committing
Delicious food! Great view! The raspberry and hazelnut roulade is to die for
We stayed here last night was lovely our room was perfect the decor was really nice the view we had was fab just a pity the weather wasn't good
We had a lovely meal and sat in the restaurant the food was so good
The breakfast was so tasty
The staff were so friendly
We will most definitely be returning maybes for couple nights next time
Thank you x
Room stylish and spotlessly clean. Friendly, helpful staff and great food. I’ve had an amazing stay / I would highly recommend it!
Great pub, and a good size. Inside is exceptionally smart, beams, exposed brick work and so on. A huge selection of food when we got there, a tough choice!! We chose wisely, as the food was ... superb in every way, decent portions with out being massive, the Guinness was spot on as well. They have a childrens menu (you need to ask), mid week it was busy, so worth booking. We had to check the bill, because it seemed too cheap for food of that quality, it was right. under 60 pounds for 3 drinks, 3 x mains (1 childrens menu) and starters. Excellent value and stunning quality.
Didn't stay in the hotel, just went for Sunday lunch. There is 14 of us so not an easy booking for them. Our meals were beautiful, as always. The only let down is one or two staff who are quite sultry. As long as you look past that it's a great place for food.
We visit here whenever we are visiting family in the area and love every visit 🥰 Dan and his team have always been exceptional in looking after us.
The food is fantastic! Famous for its home made pies and hearty dishes, the Anchor Inn offers a fabulous range of freshly cooked food. With my wife and I being vegan, the kitchen team went above and beyond to cater for us (which we appreciate unreservedly) 🥰
The drinks selection is magnificent, the real ale is kept to an incredibly high standard, the wine is perfect, and there is an excellent range of low and no alcohol beverages (which is brilliant if you're the designated driver for the evening) 🍻
The rooms are wonderful, spacious, incredibly clean and have everything you could need or want, with views over the stunning surrounding countryside. Absolute luxury 🤩
Been today for food. Well impressed. The triple smash burgers fantastic. I've not rated room etc as went for food not actual hotel. Definitely returning at some point
Stayed here to be a Beacon when Hadrians Wall was illuminated. The food was fabulous then. Returned about 2/3 years later touring. The building has changed much bigger but the food, and the service haven't suffered it's still outstanding. Reasonably priced and Northern helpings! Don't wear tight waistbands!
Visited for Sunday lunch, good selection of traditional meats along with a selection of home made pies.
I had leek pudding and mince dinner with seasonal vegtable,my wife had the leg of lamb dinner complete with a n extremely tasty Yorkshire pudding.
Prices are really competitive.
The Anchor Inn boasts spectacular views of the derwent valley.
Lovely traditional Sunday Lunch. Roast beef was very tasty & a lovely homemade Yorkshire pudding, would prefer a thicker gravy but that’s just a personal preference it was tasty all the same.
Sundays they serve both Sunday Lunch & a regular menu.
Service was friendly & it’s in a great location with a fantastic view.
If you like pie this is the place to come - they are home made and just lovely - served with home made chips too. There is a huge menu of other things to eat too. Nice ale and fantastic view - all in all a decent northumbrian pub - will definitely be back
Great food, lot of choice. Cooked nicely, with large portions.
Value for money.
Gluten free multiple options .
Helpful staff
Had dinner here, all of us had pies. Chicken & haggis, minted lamb and a steak and Stilton. All came with a choice of mash or chips and mushy or garden peas all with gravy. Portion sizes very generous roughly £15 each
It was a great quiet stay for us. It is in what I call a very small community. The people were very friendly. The room was excellent, and the view was beautiful, I love the countryside. We had an excellent dinner (the menu was more extensive than what I imagine this place will have).
Service was quick food great plenty of choice and is family friendly. 👪 saves you cooking if you've been exploring all day
We were here for a funeral lunch as we were a fortnight ago and the food was delicious, friendly and pleasant staff.
Family evening meal here 30th May. Absolutely beautiful food. Staff very freindly and attentive. Lovely place. We were staying at Derwent Manor Hotel nut decided to have a meal out. All 4 of us agreed this was some of the best food we've ever had. If you don't love this place, I'll pay your bill.
What a cracking home made pie on offer here. I had the sausage, bacon and black pudding choice and it is without equal. Great chips too.
Lovely pub with lovely rooms to stay in. Good food and breakfast was great.
Not much around though and is a bit out of town.
Plenty of parking but don't park under the trees!!
Lovely rural pub in a location with great views. Great food at reasonable prices and friendly staff. Regularly visit for meals.
We really enjoyed our food. But even though it was quiet, service was quite slow. This could be because food was cooked fresh, and that is why I have given an overall score of 4*.
We would definitely go back as there was a lot more on the menu we would like to try.
