I've not visited Tankerton for over 25 years, but my partner and I happened to be in the area and popped in for lunch on New Years Day without a reservation and, although all the tables were reserved, the staff kindly found us a table that was available for an hour and allowed us to dine. I'm so glad they did! We shared some baby squid to start then moved on to muscles (which had a sauce to die for and plenty for 2 to share) plus cod and chips and a drink each, all for less than £40.
We felt no pressure to leave and we had a view of the ocean to boot! I can't fault it.
Really great place in a lovely location. The food is delicious, and good value for money. I had mussels, with the best sauce I have had in a long time. For dessert, I had creme brulee, which was lovely and a very generous sized portion. So good we came back again the next day. The staff are really friendly and helpful too.
The food here is excellent I have eaten here a few times now and my only problem is trying to decide which delicious thing I will have next. Had a beautiful meal last night. The staff are lovely and friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this for great atmosphere, food and venue. Thanks.
Visiting family in Whitstable and had a lovely meal in the Royal. The food was delicious and staff were very friendly. Would highly recommend it.
We have a caravan at Seaview and when ever we are down we visit the Royal and although it has now gone from a tenant to a Shepard Neame manage pub the quality of food and service are still of the highest quality always worth a visit and also dog friendly in the public bar section, and a nice set up outside with brilliant sea views.
First time I’ve been in there really nice place staff was friendly and the food was delicious will be coming back soon
Visited here yesterday for lunch - had booked a table. Device was excellent .... Food was lovely too esp the fish 🐟 .... so fresh. Would highly recommend - will definitely be returning 😊
Had not been to the Royal since last year as the place had gone downhill now it's been referbished and change to managed the food was brilliant and the staff great will now start going regularly once again.
we had a fantastic meal today celebrating mothers day. Both the food and service was excellent.
I loved the place had a great Sunday lunch 2 large glasses of merlot and pudding Shirley had same without the wine of course I will return in the future.
A top pub good friendly staff great food and a great service too, see you soon
A lovely evening, polite attentive staff and the meals were gorgeous will definitely be coming back here to eat
All the food we had was very good. Went there for a group of 6 and everyone’s meal looked delicious. I got the Fish and Chips which I think was the winner (I would say that though) and the chicken wings to start. But the pie looked good, pasta was awesome, tacos looked delicious - so many good options
Positioned on the slopes of Tankerton the Royal is a really nice place to go if you fancy some great food, fantastic views and a good beer. The staff are always friendly and very help which makes this a brilliant place to visit.
We went on Sunday for dinner but they were short staffed so were only taking diners with bookings so we came back the next day. We were recommended this place by our Airbnb host, the views are great outside and the food was nice, well presented but not amazing, the tuna particularly was overcooked. The desserts were better than the mains. We got the grilled tuna, beef and ale pie, panacotta and sticky toffee pudding. Lovely little pub restaurant by the sea. Service was very friendly too.
Friendly staff, prompt service, nice range of beer on tap, Master Brew was very good. Great food menu, fish & chips, calamari, burgers were very good. Sardines were fab. Dog friendly pub, with water bowls in bar and outside. Free parking along promenade in front of pub. Will certainly return.

Walked in without reservation today. Sat in the bar area so ordered at the bar. They had Sunday roast, but we went for something lighter. I enjoyed the Crab Linguini and local pint while my mate enjoyed her Hake main. The Fish plate was not liked described in the menu but still tasty.
Best fish and chips you can ever have! Delicious, crispy and super fresh
Excellent customer service food is amazing Victor and taila do welcoming and kind deserves to be full every night 🙏
Great pub with a good range of beers and food. Curry night on the first Tuesday of the month. Top curries 👍🤤
Food was decent, quite expensive for what we ordered, fish and chips in my opinion. But it was good. Mushy peas were more like pea soup in my eyes, very liquid.
Puddings were delicious.
Didn't have a children's menu. Either so ended up with a fish finger sandwich which my daughter didn't like very much. Was very squishy and agree hers was nothing like my fish.
Called on for Sunday lunch as had not been for a while. Two roast lunch dishes available which was served with a separate dish of 4 vegetables. Good selection of beers and when asked what wine they had was afforded a selection of 6. Prices were competitive, service attentive and atmosphere good. Will we come again - definitely.
Good roast dinner. Not Toby portions, however, neatly presented with a sharing platter of veg made for a good lunch.
Had the Cherry Bakewell Cheesecake too, which was awesome!
Good beer and wine list and very attentive staff. Team had smiles and happy personas, so makes for a good lunch venue.
Lucky enough to have the table in the window that overlooks the sea, so another plus.
Fantastic pub. Food is amazing. We've walked in on Sunday without reservation. They managed to squeeze us in between other reservations which was great. Service was excellent. Well done.
Came here on a sunny Tuesday for lunch. I wish that they had outdoor seating that was shady bit sadly they didn't so we sat just by the door in the pub area. We ordered fish and chips, steak, vegetarian burger and a chicken sandwich. The food was good and the portions decent - not too big or too small. We went to the beach across the street afterwards.
Really fun and friendly pub right by the sea. Good choice of beers and decent food to go along. Great location too as it's overlooking the shore. Prices are average. Seemed a lot local too Would recommend as a stop to anyone around.
Another great Shepherd Neame pub. The Royal is situated by the Tankerton Slopes with good views out to sea. There is a nice varied menu and the usual tasty beers on offer. I had a Chicken burger which was very nice and there wasn't a long wait either which was good. There is also a decent outdoor space for the warmer days.
A summers night, lots of people sitting outside. Quite noisy inside though. Big party of us. You can tell we didn't like the food. Ha ha. All plates cleared.
