Finally (after a year of him bugging me) tried The Peddlar one Saturday lunchtime - and been back twice more since! Saturday lunch visit, hadn't booked, sat in bar area. Timed it well as within 20 or so minutes, staff were having to turn people away as no tables left. Service was good, food was amazing! I had the mighty marra burger (omg, I only ate half and gave the other half to him!), He had the feather blade steak and prawns (might have been surf n turf). Steak just melted in your mouth, prawns were enormous. Twice cooked chips were yummy. (Pics are of the lunch visit). Booked for a Saturday night couple of weeks later, service good but a bit slower than the lunchtime had been. We both had steak - chef did a cracking job on my medium/well-done but his medium was much better. Twice cooked chips again but they were different from the previous time and not quite as yummy. He is so impressed with the food we were back the next morning for breakfast! Cooked brekkies all round and again, no fault to be found. It's definitely on our list now, probably top choice for eating out. Hits the spot for me for menu choices (he eats owt, I'm the fussy one), uses locally sourced food and has soya milk for my tea. That's a winner right there. Worth checking the menu regularly as I'm sure they change the food choices - I've looked previously and thought there's nothing on there I'll eat but right now there's loads.

Had the sausages and mash. Was absolutely delicious! The waiting staff were attentive and friendly too. Prices were reasonable, although the interior decoration was a little odd. Overall though lovely restaurant would definitely go again.

First time visiting the venue which is very smart and well spaced, there won't be any accidental elbow touching here. We went for the afternoon tea, which was massive and to be fair, very tasty. The scotch egg and sausage roll were great and the chicken and quiche also very good. After getting beyond those I was struggling! With three puds it was clear I would never be able to finish it all. I ate the scone which was pretty good. Not the best, but decent. The brownie and lemon posset had to come home with me in a box! Overall it was very enjoyable, although I'm not sure we can really call it an afternoon tea! In my opinion, they could easily have removed the chicken and posset and added in a small finger sandwich or two. The result would still be a very non-traditional afternoon tea, but it might have been close enough to call it one. There really should at least be a nod to cucumber somewhere in there Edit: paid another visit and went for regular menu items. The meal was lovely, a bit different and still generously sized. At lunchtime, with three of us eating, none of us actually managed to polish of our meal! The star of the show was the Thai curry, probably about as good as it gets outside an actual Thai restaurant

Lovely inside. Staff great. Was just a little too posh for me with fancy food and not a steak pie in sight but the food I got was gorgeous

A breath of fresh air for Whitehaven, hopefully a sign of things to come. Amazing to think this was the old bus station when I was a kid. We had brunch - pricey compared to the usual Whitehaven offering but you get what you pay for. Recommended.

My experience was good , the salmon I ordered tasted great . Unfortunately our server made a little mistake on my daughters order. But he was so good with solving the issue.

Really enjoyed our meal at The Peddler. It's a really nice, open restaurant with high ceilings in the old bus station. Restaurant on the ground floor and what seems to be working units on a mezzanine above. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent with lots of seafood on offer, decent selection of beers and wines and a few desserts. Very close to the train station and harbour, so plenty of parking available too

The food was delicious and very filling. It is a beautiful decorated place, a bit industrial. So the place can feel a bit vast in relation to space. If this is not your cup of tea it would feel a bit cold maybe. But we do have to remind ourselves they opened during a pandemic so they had to comply with spacing to sit their customers. The waitresses were super friendly, but once when we wanted refills we did have to flag someone down. Nothing major but this accounts for the 4 stars. What I can say is the prices are phenomenal. £108 for 4 people, 2 drinks each, a main each, and 3 puddings. Definitely making this a more affordable option for anyone.
