This coffee shop/children's book shop is a little gem(Fox) of a shop. The thoughtfulness and attention to detail of this cafe is the best we have seen. Something only independent coffee shop owners can achieve. The book theme decor is superb and creates a magical atmosphere for children and adults alike. Oh and the coffee, cakes are great too. During our few visits the Bay coffee consistently tasted good. The staff were great too and welcomed us from minute one. The chairs are comfortable and dont worry there is a table and chair area just for the children if you just want a quiet coffee on your own. Toilets are clean with nappy changing space. Prices are average for Whitby. This cafe is located on the Abbey side just by the bridge. Wheelchair access is a squeeze but should be okay. Dog friendly too. Well done to everyone involved. 👍

Great cafe to grab a coffee and pick a book. Books are mostly for children and young adults, but some great books from Kew Gardens can be found here too.

Child friendly and great place for new mums. Love the Narnia wardrobe in the play area. Great coffee, good selection of drinks and cakes, Vegan and gluten free. Most of all really friendly helpful staff and a little shop selling books and a few other goodies.

Amazing concept, decor, atmosphere and service. Might have to make this my go-to café now. Love that you can browse some lovely books after you've sat down for a bit as well. 100% recommend!

We really enjoyed our visit to this coffee shop. I'd say it's one of the better coffees around the area and with a large number of books to keep my 5 and 6 year-old occupied it's great. The cake selection is also nice, some options for the gluten free which my wife appreciates. Unfortunately they seem to sellout quick. The only downside is the shop doesn't have much seating (not uncommon for Whitby) so you might not get to sit down. Also dog friendly I think 👍. We visit family in the area about twice a year and after finding this place we always try to get in for a drink and cake.

After 199 steps down, we wanted to stop somewhere before our next adventure. Always on the look out for illustration inspiration , their front window of books caught my eye and we ventured in. Really welcoming surroundings filled with books, which I'm sure kids will love, and amazing coffee and cakes (Sourced locally and some are vegan - Great for the dairy intolerant). Well worth a stop after a trek to Whitby Abbey!

We always love going in! A nice cafe away from the hustle and bustle, nice and warm with great drinks and food. And we can take our 3 dogs in! I always pick up a book at the end and usually they have great stories to offer. A must of you want a little break and a lovely drink. Does vegan options which is great for me (lactose intolerant)

This place has my whole heart! Cosy vibes, staff were delightfully friendly, great drink selection including 2 vegan milk options, delicious vegan brownie (and the other cakes looked lovely too), very accommodating (dogs allowed, gender neutral toilets, child friendly) and to top it off a fantastic selection of beautiful books. Can't wait to visit again!!

Delightful coffee shop with the most amazing cakes. My children loved the play area and books, and we treated ourselves to a lovely new book before we left, there are so many to choose from but my little boy chose a gorgeous book called 'Kindness Grows'. What more could you ask for in a coffee shop? A little gem and our new favourite! Thank you 😍
