Wow what a gem of a pub. My husband and I are on our last day of our holiday at a site 1.5miles away and decided to try the Hare and the Hound pub for lunch. Well worth the walk.
Lauren was so lovely from get go.
The food was amazing.
The pub is absolutely gorgeous in side.
The Toilets are tastefull
The Sunday roast was full of flavour. Excellent gravy and nice veg. Unfortunately my beef was a bit tough to cut through and a little bit of fat on it (personally not a fan of fat). However, this wouldn’t put me off going again as it was definitely nice food. I found the chairs a bit uncomfortable t
Came for lunch last week and it was lovely. The food was gorgeous and the outside seating area was nice. Unfortunately had to deal with people who don't know how to train their dogs to not go mental at other dogs but such is life 🙄 would definitely come back, especially as it's just off the cinder t
Found this lovely pub on the way to a dog friendly beach in Whitby.
To our delight, a notice said the Hare & Hounds was ‘dog friendly’ so we stopped.
We, 2 adults & 1 child, ordered meals and ate them outside.
The friendly staff and customers told us where to find Sandsend.
The large meals were a gr
Had Sunday roast here and would definitely come again. Really good, well-chosen set of veg accompaniments - cauliflower cheese, lovely sweet red cabbage, broccoli florets (still with a bit of bite to them - perfectly done) and a gorgeous swede mash. Home-made Yorkshire puddings were fabulous.

Had 2 delicious meals here this week. Scampi and fish and chips were excellent The Sunday lunch beef and turkey were fabulous. The service was excellent and a very welcoming place. Will visit again next time we are in Yorkshire
Very nice pub with food, clean, warm and plenty of parking.
Quick drive from Whitby on the way to Robin Hood’s Bay, so if you want to escape the craziness of the tourists this is a good alternative.
Pie was good but didn’t enjoy the veggies they were a bit overcooked and flavourless. Would return fo
A really friendly little pub. I went in with my parents for lunch today and was greeted by really friendly staff and served excellent food. The steak, mushroom and ale pie was genuinely one of the best I’ve ever had and has left me full up hours later.
Highly recommend and will visit again.
Visited yesterday early evening with my wife. Friendly welcome and drinks order taken straight away. We had the sirloin steak and blue cheese sauce together with a chicken dish. Both were excellent and substantial servings. Excellent service throughout and would not hesitate to recommend the food.
Great place. dog friendly. very friendly and welcoming staff. popped in for a drink at 5pm, asked about eating later and managed to get us a later at 8.15pm. partner said the steak and mushroom pie was the best pie she's had 👍
Met up with family there for lunch. Made us very welcome and impressed gave us a table with plenty of space around for my large dog. Food excellent with very generous portions and service both efficient and friendly.Hope to go again before holiday ends
Well 5 star experience. Easy booking. Dog dedicated area. Attentive staff. Quick service. Outdoor seating area. Clean toilets. Obsoletely delicious food. The best steak pie I had in ages. Congratulations to the Chef. Highly recommended place.
Dog friendly. Food was excellent. Good selection of real ale. Staff were friendly and helpful. Pub was very busy, worth booking a table. Will definitely be returning soon.
A lovely find , it’s a great dog friendly pub with fantastic food. Just wish we had known about it at the start of our stay, staff welcoming will definitely be visiting again .
This was a quick pit stop while walking the Cinder Way from Whitby to Robin Hood's Bay. We stopped only for a quick drink. The ale was very good, the service very friendly and dogs welcomed too. We didn't try the food so can't comment on that but the menu looked interesting and reasonably priced.
Surpassed our expectations. Lovely, friendly staff. Beautiful old pub. Good range of pub staples and fancy options like local seafood linguini. We visited from the local campsite, would happily come here again, we brought our 2 kids and good kids menu.
If you are in the area, this is a must visit. Dog friendly. Freshly cooked food. Went twice, once for lunch once for an evening meal.
Both times, food and service were exceptionally good.
The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed.
I will be booking a table next time I'm in Whitby.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Hare and Hounds is a short way from the cinder track (a dis-used railway that runs fro Whitby to Scarborough and is used for walking and cycling) and worth the short diversion to have a drink or a meal.
We didn't eat on this visit, but plenty of people around us were tucking into great looking f
