A Gem in Whitby: 5 Stars for the White Horse and Griffin! The White Horse and Griffin absolutely deserves a 5-star rating! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and a huge shout-out to Amy who went above and beyond for us. We were delighted to be surprised with a complimentary upgrade to a beautiful room – it was spacious and spotless. The location is perfect, right in the heart of Whitby, and everything is just a short stroll away. We didn't need to use our car once! Breakfast was included in the price of the room and was delicious, with plenty of options to choose from. Overall, our stay at the White Horse and Griffin was fantastic. Thanks to the wonderful staff, especially Amy, for making it such a memorable experience. We'll definitely be back!

Had a lovely break at the WH&G - 3 nights bed and breakfast, plus a couple of meals in the restaurant. The room was clean and tidy and the facilities were great. The food was delicious and everything was reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful without being over attentive. All in all a very nice stay at a traditional English inn. I would definitely stay here again. Top marks.

Short notice restaurant booking, with a dog. We were accommodated in the private dining room. Service was great, and our hosts were happy and friendly. Food was top notch, and plentiful.

Great place to stay, eat or just have a drink. We visit everytime we come to Whitby. Full of history and ghost stories. A must visit when in Whitby

We stayed here for a long weekend and absolutely loved this place. This former coaching inn oozes history, with its stone & wooden floors, exposed beams, and each of the bedrooms decidedly different from each other. Stayed in ‘Discovery’, an attic room with part-sloping ceiling and lovely seating area. The stairs to reach here are not for the faint-hearted, so be sure to discuss any physical limitations when booking. Nevertheless, it’s a lovely room. The building is seventeen century, so don’t expect everything to be pristine. The windows that are difficult to close, a wardrobe resembling a Hobbit-hole, the awkward to step into shower etc, all add to its charm, rather than detract from it. Dinner was excellent; great food & wine, and friendly & efficient service. Breakfast could have been better (in my opinion) if they had the option of buffet-style cereals and juices, in addition to the hot food menu. Nevertheless, it was still good; the kippers in particular. All staff were lovely throughout, the location is brilliant, and it felt a privilege to stay in such an historic place. I would love to stay again.

Our favourite stay across the UK. Beautiful rooms, retaining the original 1600s features, but with glorious beds and showers. We ate at the restaurant last night, and it was one of the best meals I have ever had (and I’m 51!) - the lamb was out of this world.

The White Horse and Griffin is a stunningly beautiful old pub. A long, narrow pub, no room for a pool table. Totally unspoilt a proper boozer with a wide range of beers lager and ciders and lovely hand pulled cask conditioned real ale. Friendly welcoming staff It is a great pub to spend an afternoon with friends.

Lovely little pub for lunch. Fish, chips and mushy peas were beautifully cooked and reasonably priced. Relaxed atmosphere with very friendly staff. Will definitely go again next time we're in Whitby.

We had a lunch booked for 16 for an important family occasion. The staff and food were superb. We ate upstairs on a lovely big table they had made up and we felt very looked after. The fish and chips were superb and the mussels were great too. It's the third or fourth time we've chosen here to celebrate a family occasion and they never disappoint.

We would love to stay again as you can't fault it. If you could give the staff a 6 I would. They took our luggage up to our room well before check in time. Couldn't do enough for you. So friendly and professional. The room warrior queen is beautiful and was very clean. Very comfy bed. The breakfast was wonderful. Hubby got the local kippers and was over the moon. Sorry for anyone asking after us he ate the last one! Fresh juice fresh ingredients. The dining room itself is really well presented and clean. Very atmospheric. The location was perfect. Near to the bus and train stations. Lots of bars and shops next door. No ghosts were heard or seen for us!

It is not a stretch to say this could be one of the best pubs in Whitby. The service, atmosphere, and selection was 1st class coming for both lunch and a pint in the afternoon.

Whilst staying in Whitby over the bank holiday we walked into town for breakfast, a lot of places don’t allow dogs so this was a plus straight away. Looked a bit small and quirky when we first walked in but soon found the restaurants were out the back and the dog friendly was upstairs. Lovely large room, water bowls for the dog and good choice in menu, sorry I forgot to take photo of breakfast itself I was so hungry and it was so appealing I forgot! But you can see from the finished plates there was nothing we didn’t like. 2 full breakfast, 2 juice, tea & coffee, and 2extra toast each £35. Would definitely recommend…. a nice quiet spot in the hustling busy streets of Whitby. Tea drinkers you get a pot.. 3 cups, but my husband was only poured 1 coffee. I think if you drink tea better valve for money. Maybe a small cafetière would make you feel you were getting the same? Just something my husband mentioned. Otherwise spot on.

Really felt at home here. Stayed in the inn upstairs. Large comfortable room, newly renovated but had antique furniture and the fireplace converted to electric with the original hearth in place. Pub is very tiny, but service is great. Breakfast was excellent, with options from full English to eggs Benedict. Would recommend!
