Utterly top notch fish and chips with lovely staff. Well worth the money. The only teeny niggle was that because we came with a dog, we had to sit in the area nearest the door and as people constantly filtered in and out we were frozen by the end in February. Would definitely go again but hopefully not with the dog or perhaps in summer!
I recall my honeymoon in Gilli islands Indonesia. My wife and I walked along the beach as the sun kissed the water. We chanced upon a local restaurant with red snapper caught off the water in front. They served this in local beer batter with sweet potato fries. My wife and I watched the sun set over the horizon and the water lap the shore. As we tucked into our fish and chips my wife leaned over to me and said, “ this is wonderful isn’t it?”. To which I replied, “well they are really good, but it isn’t quite Hadley’s”.
Indeed for 30 years my family have visited Hadley’s and it is truly the standard by which all other fish and chips are set. 10/10 always.
Exceptional quality of fish & chips. I have been coming here for over 25 yrs now. I used to come with my parents until we lost them but still come over with hubby and it's our 1st port of call and love it. Staff are polite and friendly, food is 1st class and the place is spotless would recommend to everyone x
We've been loyal customers of Mr Chips for years but after experiencing some horrendous customer service from very rude staff we decided to try Hadleys.
So glad we did, great fish and chips, prompt service and lovely staff.
Highly recommend - fab restaurant!
Forget the queues at the Magpie this is a great chippy. Lovely beer batter and soft creamy cod. Service was excellent and you can sit upstairs or down.
Not our first visit to Hadley's. We go there for great fish and chips and we are never disappointed. This time we had our dogs with us and we were going to eat at the top two tables just inside the door. Best to book at least an hour before hand. But we had a lame dog so he stayed home. Large Haddock and chips was had. Brilliant.
Lovely restaurant, very efficient with the service, all staff friendly and welcoming and food very good indeed, would recommend.
Fabulous food. Welcoming staff. Would defìnately recommend.
Not the cheapest but very accommodating, we had 2 pushchair and it was very busy but they didn't rush us. Excellent fish, chips nice and child's meal vg proper chicken nuggets.
A while since we've been to Whitby... Our first time here.. I was impressed how nice the restaurant was and the staff were helpful and friendly... chips and mushy were really nice but the haddock was 2nd to none... And yes skin on does improve the flavour!!☺️
Wow a must visit from Somerset and this is the best fish and chips I have ever had
Hands down the best fish and chips have had, ever. My partner grew up in a near by town and used to visit regularly as a kid. Since I met her she always said hiw good it was. We took a trip up north to see her childhood home etc and couldn't pass on an opportunity to try it myself. It's safe to say it did not disappoint. Very nice looking interior, which was clean to a tee, very nice staff and very quick service. 10/10 cannot recommend enough.
It was my first visit to Hadley’s Fish & Chips and safe to say it won’t be my last whenever I’m going to Whitby. Greeted with a smile as soon as I entered the restaurant, seated right away and got a menu and order in not long after. The cod was divine and the experience sat in the restaurant was fantastic. Massive thanks to the lovely staff member Mia who served me!
I can’t rate the rooms (didn’t even know it was a hotel) but the fish and chips is the best we’ve had at the seaside for a long, long time. The batter was crispy - no grease, the fish was fresh, peas were tasty etc. Portions were bang on - not as generous as some places, granted, but I’d take this quality over being stuffed on principle. It is expensive, but what isn’t nowadays?!
It was simple, properly cooked, timely, and served by friendly staff. The tea pot was even a good strength the second it hit the table. A rare treat.
Great location, just accross the bridge. Very prompt service for taking our order and for food arriving. Food was lovely and fresh. Portion in the image is a small cod. There was a short wait before being seated but that just shows how popular it is.
There are plenty of fish and chips places to choose from in Whitby, but we choose this because it is dog friendly.
The service was great, we were sat and served quickly the staff were polite and friendly.
The food was good, and the portion size was perfect.
If you're having beer on draft, it comes in a schooner rather than a pint. There is also a good selection of drinks from the York Brewery.
Large haddock, chips, peas, bread & proper butter and a glass of Heineken. All very well cooked and quality but the peas lacked in quantity, especially when you consider the price. The haddock had skin on.
Medium cod, chips, peas, bread and proper butter and a tea. All well cooked and quality but again the peas lacked in quantity.
The portion of chips and peas is the same for large as it is for medium.
The staff were very good especially when you consider how busy this place is.
Such great fish/scampi/nuggets/wine!
Comfy, friendly. fast service, great location.
Good place to soak up the brilliant atmosphere in Whitby.
Having been establoshed since 1937, Hadleys is a fish and chips institution now here at Whitby. The haddock and chips are sooo nice! I also tried the scampi it was lovely! The qeue outside wasn't bad on easter Sunday. Friendly staff made sure we get seated quickly and got us our order after a short wait. I now have a go to place for fish and chips in Whitby.
Couldn't fault our lunch today! Excellent service. Beautiful fish, chips and mushy peas with a slice a bread and pot of Yorkshire tea! Yum
We are regulars to Whitby and always head to Hadley's for our F & C's. Tasty, generous sized fish, lovely chips. Staff helpful and friendly and very child friendly. Highly recommend!
Great place for a properly traditional Fish and Chips lunch. Lovely food, great service and very reasonable prices given the central location.
Good fish and chips. Nice restaurant.
A little pricey.
Excellent quality service and excellent quality fish and chips. A bonus was it was dog friendly
Lovely fish and chips and very clean in the restaurant. Staff helpful and friendly. Also one of the few dog friendly ones in Whitby so it was perfect
Our absolute favourite place for fish n chips in Whitby! Portions are perfect and food is delicious. We love the meal deal. Always friendly service and helpful staff.
