Stayed here for 3 nights for a birthday booze up in whitby.. Brilliant location.. right in the centre and surrounded by pubs and restaurants.. Rooms are very good, you have to be careful walking around as this place is very old and the floors uneven..which is all part of the charm. The staff are all really friendly and the landlady smiles.. always a plus. Even the small "tapas" menu is good. A couple of points to add balance.. there is no parking as this really is in the centre, however parking is 200 yards away and 8 english pounds for 24 hours which is ok.. and its a tad noisy, not at night but early in tbe morning as all the business's take deliverys.. Would we stay again? Yep and whitby is a great town to visit.. :)

Had the raspberry gin cocktail and the whole family tried some and wanted my drink! Converted them to the gin life in one cocktail! Reasonably priced for a cocktail and 3 pints at £17, and had a lively atmosphere. It's a small pub so everybody talks to everyone- the bar staff spoke to us as soon as we walked in and even after they'd finished closing the bar haha. Will come again!!

Not actually stayed at the pub, but visited it on several occasions when staying in Whitby. We find it’s just like going into your local, the staff and other customers are so friendly, we love this pub. For me it would be a reason to Whitby.

The location was ideal, right in the centre of Whitby. The room was excellent and the service very welcoming. The bar downstairs was wonderful - a very atmospheric place to stay.

Nice little quiet pub in a corner, not the most spacious but does it job and has all the drinks you want with a decent list of savoury snacks.

Pleasant pub. Other kindly patrons moved so all 8 of us could sit together. Well served beer.

Visited while having a family day out in Whitby ( 2 adults and 2 teenagers) Called in for a drink and had some of their amazing sharing boards. Really good food, great atmosphere and friendly staff.

The fact that the Black Horse is small results in a very friendly atmosphere, most convivial. The Yorkshire tapas (yapas) are excellent. I would particularly recommend the pigs in blankets, served with 'old peculier' gravy and apple sauce. The previous statement is a hint at the 'icing on the cake - old peculier' on draft. There is a fine selection of other beers, but the 'old pec' is exquisite. Hope I haven't praised this pub too much, and too many go, because I'd be devastated if I couldn't get in the next time I go.

Lovely small and very friendly pub, well worth a visit to this great old traditional pub. Great selection of drinks and it was lovely to see it dressed up for St George's day too

I can't remember a time that I've visited Whitby and NOT come in here at least once. Even as a kid. Excellent pub. If I ran a pub, I'd model it on this place. Excellently kept real ales. Super friendly and welcoming staff. Dog friendly. Simple bar-snacky food (Yapas). We had pigs in blankets with gravy dip and a gorgeous cheese on toast. Well done Black Horse for being consistently good for all of my living memory.
