Well done chef and staff ! Very amiable and attentive staff and the steak meal its self could not be faulted. We found ourselves eating items of the meal individually they were so tasty, once again well done all.

We called in last night and had the sirloin steak meal for two. The steak melted in your mouth it was excellent value at £35 plus a free bottle of pino gregio which we took home as we were driving. We would highly recommend the Hare and Hounds. Lovely food and friendly staff

We booked for my mum's birthday for a party of 4. Which we then changed to a 5 with no issues at all. First time we had been here for food and it was amazing!! Beautiful fresh food and great service, we did not have to wait long for the food to arrive and when it did it was delicious the only tiny ickle issue was the bitter shandy we ordered tasted fowl! When explaining to the waitress she said lemonade will 'kill it' not something I would choose to say to customer's, I don't think she had flattened the lemonade before pouring the bitter, but it did have a funny taste! This little detail is not a complaint by any means just maybe something that needs looking into to ensure the drinks match the amazing quality of the food!! We will definitely be coming back!

We had the Hounds fisherman's pie and the shortcrust steak pie and both were so tasty. It is a lovely wee pub with friendly staff, amazing food and we are returning for our second night for more great food!!!

My son and I, on holiday from Western Australia, visited 3 nights in March 2017 for evening meals whilst staying locally. We found the food excellent with a varied menu and very friendly and helpful staff. Although we didn't book the first night, I would recommend this as the last 2 nights were very busy.

We have a caravan locally and visit many times. The people are always friendly and welcoming and the prices are reasonable for the quality served. The lamb is to die for and the desserts are divine. Definitely worth a visit, but would advise booking, especially at weekends.

We visited for the second time last night while staying in Whitby, the food and service was excellent. It’s the best steak I’ve ever had. Our dogs were made welcome too.

More than just a country pub, it's a hub for the locals and for all the visitors that pass up and down the coastal road and trail. It's got a warm and welcoming atmosphere very well staffed and if there is not enough room inside its got loads of outdoor seating. The food 🍲 and drink is excellent with plenty of choice and it was a pleasure to have are Anniversary dinner with you while staying across the road at Swan Farm. You can't beat a village pub.

Lovely place! We're so glad we checked it out. The vegetarian options were pretty good & the menu choice including the specials is enough to satisfy most people's taste buds. I'd have gone for the market fish dish, which sounded amazing, but it sold out. I went for the halloumi stirfry in sticky soy glaze instead, served with warm pitta, chunky homemade chips, salad and coleslaw. It was delicious. The only thing I'd have changed is the coleslaw as it didn't go with this dish. Hopefully, the chef/owner might make an adjustment to that. Being a stirfry, a small pot of rice would have complimented it much better, alongside the chips, pitta and salad. My partner had a burger from the specials board which was 2x Aberdeen Angus patties with pulled pork, cheese, and even some bacon. It was a huge burger, and the photo doesn't do it justice. He said it was really good! I think it should have come with a side salad like most burgers, but it would have been wasted on him lol. If you're a cinder track user it's ideal to walk on lighter nights, have a little food and a couple of drinks, and either walk or bus it back. We'll definitely be returning and will likely be able to rate it even higher with a bit of consistency & a bit more experience to go from. Lovely job guys! Thank you.

The Sunday roast was full of flavour. Excellent gravy and nice veg. Unfortunately my beef was a bit tough to cut through and a little bit of fat on it (personally not a fan of fat). However, this wouldn’t put me off going again as it was definitely nice food. I found the chairs a bit uncomfortable though!

Wow what a gem of a pub. My husband and I are on our last day of our holiday at a site 1.5miles away and decided to try the Hare and the Hound pub for lunch. Well worth the walk. Lauren was so lovely from get go. The food was amazing. The pub is absolutely gorgeous in side. The Toilets are tastefully designed and 100% clean. Portion sizes are exceptional. Food beautifully presented. Good choice of drinks. We will definitely be popping into the pub next year when we come back to Whitby. We purchased Steak Mushroom pie with Chips & Mushy minted Peas. My husband said it was all exceptional. I had Cheese Nacho's with added pulled pork. Best I have tasted! I did send my compliments to the chef via Lauren while dining but I would like to add a Huge Thanks on this review to the chef for producing such spectacular food. Best Wishes Chrissy and Les South Yorkshire

We stayed at the nearby campsite and ate here a couple of times. First time was just 5 of us, the following night we had a group of 15. On both occasions, the service and food were exceptional. There's a lovely convivial atmosphere in the pub, and we will certainly visit again next time we're in the area.

Found this little gem whilst out on a dog walk. We returned for tea and it was amazing, steak and ale pie the best I've tasted. Hubby had the Aberdeen Angus beef burger off the special board which had black pudding, bacon and cheese on top. The chips were delicious as was the homemade coleslaw. The staff were friendly and efficient, the atmosphere great with locals happy to welcome us. We'll definitely be back. Cheers Amanda & Paul
