Extremely disappointed with this place today. Went for my birthday with 8 family and friends and service was appalling. Food was great when it eventually arrived (40 mins between starters and mains) and manager blamed the kitchens/waiters as he claimed the waiters hadn’t told the kitchen we had finished the starter. The food then arrived and my plate had two small pieces of meat on. When this was queried they then brought over (5 mins later) more meat but by that time most of my meal was gone. We ordered a few more drinks and waited nearly 20 minutes for these to turn up and actually had to remind the manager that we had ordered drinks. Again when this was queried the manager blamed the bar staff as the system they had in place was to leave them on the end of the bar and somebody (waiters) would then bring the drinks out. All in all the manager was very apologetic and some discount was applied to the bill but overall the experience was poor and resulted in a very disappointing birthday meal.
UPDATE: Following this review an update is necessary. Abbey from The Woodman Arms contacted me quickly via messenger to offer her apologies for the experience. We were then offered a replacement meal which we had today. This was a completely different and thoroughly better time which was enjoyed by all. Food was amazing, service was outstanding and staff were attentive throughout. On the whole a completely different experience from before. A huge thank-you to Abbey for sorting this out, we will definitely be back.
Can't rate this place enough, the food was amazing and the staff were so hospitable. I highly recommend.
I had my baby shower there. This place is amazing. Great food, most helpful, kind and efficient staff. 100 % recommend if you are looking for a hassle free food and drink experience.

16 of us attended last night for some staff drinks and food. The venue is stunning. The drinks and grub are amazing and the staff are just top notch. I am deffo returning here, we were made to feel so welcome especially by the management team and even managed to sort an inside area for us when it got a bit too cold outside for us all.
I think I've found my new home. Lol

First visit since the new management and renovation. Food was exceptional and a great drinks choice. Very good quality and reasonable price with good portion size. Will definitely be returning.
We called in today for lunch after hearing good reports . The staff were friendly and welcoming and the choice of food was a very good change from usual "pub grub". We all really enjoyed our choices, the food was delicious and service was attentive without being intrusive. We will definitely be back.xx

We stayed here for our sons wedding at the adjacent Willows. Absolutely perfect day, great food and service, couldn't of been better. Topped off by a lovely nights stay and fab breakfast. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a wedding venue.
Had a gorgeous Sunday lunch here again ( 4th time) it was wonderful. Beautiful venue with lovely touches - decorated Halloween theme, smells clean and gorgeous. Lovely, relaxing ambience and the food is top notch… it’s the only restaurant I like better than a home cooked sun dinner! So highly recommend for friends/ family gathering. As always we were well looked after and made v welcome by lovely, attentive people- doing everything right! Well done the Woodmans team - thanks again! We will be back…
We just had a family meal out for 6 of us whilst visiting Newcastle. We asked some staff in American golf if they could reccomend anywhere and they gave us the woodman.
The meal was excellent and the staff were lovely. If we didn't live 280 odd miles away this would be one of our favourite places.
Make sure you book, we didn't and they did fit us in but asked that we minded having a drink first and then order the food 30 minutes later to give them a chance to serve others properly. We were happy to do that and very glad we visited.

Returned today for Sunday lunch and £15 gets you a generous roast dinner. I opted for the lamb and it was superb.
Only visited for lunch but well impressed with the whole set up. Ample free parking, outside seating area which is lit and heated for cooler days/nights. Inside to a really nice welcome and it is something else, rustic and smart with log fires and plenty of seating.
It was slightly let down by my steak being overcooked (ordered medium/well got very well done) but all in all a tasty well priced lunch

I had the best gluten free meal here! It was two courses for £10 and they were massive! I was stuffed. The best chips ive ever eaten too.
The place is really quirky and cool, I'm definitely coming back for another visit.
Staff were all friendly too, really helpful. Honestly a hidden little gem this place.

My only criticism, a waiter (who hadn't served us previously) brought the bill (we were 4 families) he lingered for ages making jokes about who was the unlucky one having to pay...it just made things awkward.
Other than that blip, everyone loved their food and we'll definitely return.
Went for Sunday lunch. The whole lunch was lovely. The meat was tender. The staff were great and attentive and couldn't do enough. Afterwards, I chose the sticky toffee pudding, which was lush. It's not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. Would highly recommend 👌
Absolutely brilliant place for food. The service was speedy and the staff were so polite and played along my nieces jokes. My parents loved their sunday dinners and my niece ate the entire of her pizza! (she doesn't normally!)
Amazing food, one of my parents is gluten free now and the staff were so helpful with the choice of food. Not a long wait time and friendly staff.
Fantasic variety of food, which was flavourful and filling! The staff were really kind and helpful. The deco of the restaurant was INCREDIBLE and the atmosphere was nice too.
We got the hoisin duck chips which was sticky, sweet and tasty, same for the boa buns.
Curry, burger and pizza for the mains. The portions are excellent and all the flavours spot on.
The cheesecake and eton mess were light and tasty. And the sticky toffee a good mix of sweet and filling.
My new favourite for Sunday Lunch! Absolutely delicious, reading the menu online didn’t do it justice. Every single mouthful was full of flavour and the belly pork was scrumptious- probably the best I’ve ever had. The setting was beautiful, inside and out. Lovely cosy feel, that was calming and relaxing. Outside area looks beautiful, will definitely be back, especially for some drinks outside when the sun is shining!
Amazing meal and decor is beautiful. Staff were really attentive. Haven’t been for years but will definitely return soon!
