I was Really nicely surprised by this place. Outside it's quite unassuming, however inside is open, bright and have a nice atmosphere. Everything is clean and we'll kept; the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is fantastic; bread and pastries are baked fresh on site and there's a great deli downstairs. Prices are very reasonable. I'll definitely be coming here again.

Provenance Food Hall and Restaurant sits on Market Street in Westhoughton, and has always boasted an impressive food hall of local fresh meats, pies, produce and the like, but also has an upstairs restaurant which I've never been to before, so whilst in Westhoughton I thought I'd pop in for some breakfast. The restaurant area is on a first floor mezzanine level, looking down over parts of the food hall like a minstrels gallery. It's decorated in bright and fresh neutral colours, grounded by a natural wooden floor. Light cascades in through sash windows on two walls. Glimpses through cut-outs in the walls show further seating areas, for use in the full restaurant of an evening. I took a menu from the bar and had a read. The breakfast offerings look good, but as I read the menu I realise that the rest of the menu looks superb too! Steak nights, grill nights, Afternoon Teas and all sorts of other tempting things. I already decide before ordering that I must come again to the "proper" restaurant in an evening. I decided to order sourdough toast with whipped butter and marmalade, and a pot of Birchall's English Breakfast Tea, and was told to take a seat anywhere I like and it'd be brought over. I chose to sit by one of the sash windows and look down out over Market Street. Even seated I can see the fine quality finish on everything in this venue; the restaurant is the same quality and fit as the downstairs foodhall, meaning everything is spotless, modern, and pleasant. The staff upstairs seem to be as friendly and helpful as the staff downstairs too. It all feels very professional, whilst still very friendly. I observe other visitors who join after me, a mother and her children enjoying breakfast, some ladies-who-lunch ordering eggs benedict, and two young girls ordering soft drinks. It's nice to see that there's a mix of customers. My breakfast arrives, beautifully presented, but to be honest I wouldn't have expected any less from Provenance from what I've seen. The Fairtrade tea is delicious, and the sourdough toast has a superb crunch to it, the butter and marmalade both being of good quality, meaning you feel a bit spoilt for your breakfast, which can never be a bad thing. It was a very tasty breakfast, and cost less than four quid. Brilliant. Great place, and I can see that the quality and service are priority here, so I look forward to returning to try the evening menu sometime, and was already advised by another staff member to book in advance due to popularity!

Well after many recommendations we finally booked in and had a beautiful meal at provenance. Provence is very modern and has a relaxing & classy atmosphere. There is a well presented food hall downstairs selling good quality confectionary, fresh fruit, veg, meet & fish. The restaurant is situated upstairs and the food is exceedingly tasty! I will most definitely be visiting again - highly recommend.

Have waited quite a while for this little gem of a place. Would be better suited for the up and coming Northern Quarter of Manchester however. It serves seasonal fayre which is expertly prepared and cooked to perfection. The menu is changed often too. There is adequate time between courses and the waiting staff are friendly and efficient. Will definitely be back, either with my husband or an evening out with friends.

Great cafe upstairs above butcher and delicatessen. Visited on Saturday 12th August. The breakfast was substantial and well cooked, we had the veggie breakfast. The coffee was good and I'm quite fussy. We also tried the loose leaf teas they had, which were excellent. Had the Earl Grey One, and there were several more on offer However the stand out was the friendly staff, 2 ladies working when we were there, about 11:30 to 1pm . I'm not from the area, was visiting a friend over the weekend, my experience was they were nice and helpful, friendly and engaging. Suggestions to the owner: look after the staff you have, hire more like them and keep up the quality of the food and this place will be a license to print money. Will be back on my next visit to Westhoughton.

Wonderful food and great service, upstairs and down. Food was great - Salmon Salad and a Ploughman's Lunch, and excellent coffees. Options available downstairs all looked fantastic - went for lamb chops and chicken wings to take home, as well as a couple of gift items. Will visit again!

When I first moved to Wethoughton the cafe was closed; just got back from working away for 5 months and noticed it was open so decided to try :) ladies are very welcoming, just had a sandwich and coffee, but noticed they have a bar, so wine next time!

As featured in the Good Food Guide 2017/2018, Provenance Food Hall & Restaurant is easily the best place to eat in Westhaugaton & Bolton. Downstairs you can find a Food Hall with Butchers, bakers and local produce etc. Upstairs, a light and contemporary dining rooms plays host to Lewis Gallagher and the team, whose excellent cooking make this well worth the trip. Check it out!

Really nice but the staff downstairs on the pie counter don't wear gloves and start to touch money and other things whilst touching the food. Cross contamination 🤢

Two sandwiches to go. Freshly sliced beef and fresh salad made while you wait. Took roughly 10 mins but worth waiting for. Competitively priced against a prepackaged option yet worlds apart in quality.

Came here on steak night and the meals were excellently prepared. Must try the stick toffee pudding! Very popular among locals so reservations are recommended.

Best butchers in the area. The pre prepared dishes - courtesy of Karen-are excellent. The garlic and herb chicken kebabs are divine. Home cured bacon is excellent. Good selection of specialist marinades and sauces. The tomato based Mutti range is the best

Eat in the upstairs cafe. Had the burger and the sausage and mash. Really enjoyed the food, great service and lovely location. The food in the ship looked amazing as well, although we didn't buy anything this time. We'll be back though

Always a joy to shop here. Great cuts of quality meat , the butcher there will look after you and give you the best cuts of fillet. They have an excellent Greek olive oil and some other products you can’t buy from the supermarket. Selection of freshly made ready meals if your stuck for cooking ideas. I went in particularly for their Italian Mutti selection which is very good as I usually have to order in from Naples. Well done provencal.

Tried for the first time after a recommendation. Think our timing was out as the service was slow due to a group of girls at a baby shower. There was only one serving and where we sat there was three tables that needed clearing. By the time we left after enjoying our food one table still needed clearing along with ours. Three menus to choose from as it's Festive menu time. Very good choices on all menus with very fair pricing. Worth giving it a try .

Excellent experience. The cafe was warm and welcoming the staff were totally relaxed yet attentive and the food was well prepared and delicious. My friend doesn't like butter and it was no problem at all for the staff to get her some unbuttered bread. I haven't been here since pre Covid and really I'd say it was even better than then. Lovely place, lovely people will be going again x
