First experience of Surf was their delicious bubble pots, and have had many take outs since, but ate in for the first time at the weekend. The food, as always, was delicious. We got there quite late but were welcomed in and found the ladies to be so friendly and helpful. Not once did we feel like we were stopping them from closing. Love it here, definitely recommend if you’re down the Chalkwell end of the seafront. What a gem to find 😀
Great find, better food than anticipated. Great views of the estuary too
Great spot on Chalkwell Beach for breakfast. Food was tasty and fresh. Coffee could do with being a bit stronger, hence the 4 stars.
I first visited here in Covid times and had a bubble pot, or something similar - never do remember names! I've been back to dine in the restaurant twice and the food and service was just as good! Totally recommend AND I'm very particular about standards. Looking forward to returning 💗
This is a great little restaurant / cafe and takeaway place located on directly on the sand at Chalkwell beach, a little bit further along the coast from Southend.
They serve hot and cold drinks and snacks including ice cream tea and coffee etc from the takeaway counter and proper meals from the restaurant.
We had takeaway coffees there early in the day and went back to the restaurant for a late lunch.
The menu is pretty large for such a small place and also has a good number of veggie options considering how small this place is.
This is the 2nd time that we have eaten in the restaurant and it was great both times.
On this occasion I had the Fish and chips which was lovely piece of fish in a nice crisp batter which was clearly cooked in quality clean cooking oil. My better half had the haddock and cheese bubble with poached egg from the specials board which came with a generous side salad. This is a definite favourite.
The food here is reasonably priced and the quality is excellent and the service is always warm friendly and efficient.
I'd recommend this place to anyone if you are in the area.
Friendly, good music, good views of the estuary and good food. Can’t fault it. Even dog friendly. Would be a little awkward for someone in a wheelchair, but do-able and they have tables outside too anyway. Accessible loos.
The sandwich was excellent and so was the coffee. Relaxed, good magazine selection too. Always friendly service. Loos are clean and accessible, good baby changing facilities. Will go back again.
UPDATE: Have adapted well to COVID-19. You can still get ice cream or hot food at the hatch. More likely for people to order takeaway. You can then sit along the wall.
It is always good to frequent local independent businesses. They are a part of the community as much as you are. It's a place to say a friendly hello, exchange some news and just have a chat. So much more needed in these more socially isolated days thanks to the global pandemic. This is the new normal now, so while you can order stuff online, don't forget to keep your local businesses alive. You'd really miss them when they're gone. Not just for the convenience, but for the quality and as I mentioned social aspect.
The internet means you can get almost anything online, but you can't do the people watching or browse a counter and try something new. Or get the smell of something good you want to try. Let's hope these businesses survive. It is us to us fellow customers!
I visited today with my mum & we both had the smoked salmon stack for lunch today and it was soooo delicious. Really lovely place, would highly recommend.
These cafes are amazing but shut way to early in the summer still hot past 3&4 and cant get a evening icecream or drink :(
Food and service is superb and so pleased that dogs are allowed. Unfortunately I have heard that the inside cafe is closing for the summer although the lovely food will still be available from the servery.
I’ve been twice and had the veggie breakfast- it really is delicious, possibly the best one I’ve eaten locally. Portions are generous, with a variety of items and everything is nicely cooked. Both my friend and I loved the bubble and squeak- perfectly soft inside and crispy on the outside. The views are pleasant, you can watch the dog walkers on the beach as you sit and enjoy your food. The young weekend waitresses are efficient and friendly.
Arrived at the same time as Storm Brendon but what a wonderful place ! Fantastic food reasonable prices lovey waitress . Worth having to wade back to our car. Will be returning on a regular basis . Thank you guys
Lovely beach front cafe with great food most of which is healthy.
Above average beach cafe with super friendly staff... Espresso coffees, smoothies made to order
Cute beachside hut with snacks. Great prices and quality. Super friendly staff.
A yummy cooked breakfast compact in a cute pot, everything was delicious especially the bubble. Well worth a visit!
Love this little place. Food great and service excellent. Right on the beach too. At high tide it's really special.
