Nice traditional pub, good food, and very attentive staff. Michael, our server was brilliant, a credit to the establishment.

Nice pub, cozy with plenty of seating. The fella behind the bar was friendly and welcoming too.

Haven't been here for a number of years for no particular reason. Was recommended to go back by my nephew who said it was one of the best places he'd been to in the area. How right he was.. Superb food and service at a very reasonable cost. Have been 3 times in the last month. Excellent 👍🏻

seats were uncomfortable , table was top high up and there was 8 of us around o e table, which was the largest table size available, food wait time was not terrible but we did have to wait a bit - never mind.. But, the seafood risotto was delicious and the chocolate cake was also delicious and so I hope to return soon!

Visited for Sunday lunch 15/10/2023. Food was beautiful including the starters we had, of the soup and garlic mushrooms. Only downside is the waiting for your table as there is insufficient room for all the people who get in each other's way but this is a symptom of the popularity

A buffet for approximately 20 people was arranged for after my late step mothers funeral. The service by staff at the red lion was excellent as was the food . As it occurred, it was 9 years ago to the day when my father was buried and the wake had been at the red lion (the staff remembered and gave great advice regarding the food). I highly recommend the red lion.

Food was absolutely delicious, nice wine, a pretty setting and such lovely friendly staff. Can't fault anything!

Last minute booking and wasn't disappointed. Bar lovely, warm and great atmosphere. Food gorgeous and service spot on. Staff were friendly, efficient and polite. Will definately be back.

Born in South Shields but moved over to Australia 15 years ago. Over here visiting family and we asked where to go for a good Sunday Lunch Roast. Red Lion was recommended and we were not disappointed. The food was tremendous. Never seen Yorkshire Puddings like it in my life. Fantastic. Huge portion sizes. Would highly recommend for food, service, friendly staff and the decor is beautiful. Take my hat off to the chefs and cooks. The stickydate cake was to die for. Picked at last minute and everything was great so went the next night and not disappointed. Lovely food, great staff, brilliant!

Lovely 2 course meal at the Red Lion. Couldn't fault the food or service. Staff were friendly and polite but not overly insistent. I like the quaint atmosphere.

Called in for a drink after many years as we moved out of the area. This pub, although on the main road, must be one of the best kept secret places. It's a place where you feel at home when you go in. They do have food on, but you may need to check the times for the kitchen. Large car park behind with disabled bays and entrance.

Lovely old traditional pub serving delicious meals, a good selection of real ales, wines and drinks with friendly people. The restaurant and alfresco style dining in modern surroundings offer a nice environment for lunch and evening dining. Well worth a visit..

Beautiful restaurant..oldy worldy, made so welcome by lovely staff , accommodated wheelchair .wow absolutely amazing food , waitress especially lovely despite being ultra busy .. Great value for money for the high standard of food n service...

Visited for lunch was lovely, we did have to ask for a specific lunch menu as the mains were more evening meals, Lovely staff mainly seen a young read headed lad who was extremely polite and welcoming Will be back again soon!
