Offering both a restaurant and a takeaway facility, the Red Onion certainly delivers a decent chicken kebab that is both filling and tasty. Its not up to the standard set by pace setters such as Zarka's in Shelton or Kebab Land in Wolstanton, but its something that, especially if you haven't had 'the genuine kebab experience', isn't a bad place to start if you are based in this neck of the woods. The lack of ability to pay by card, however, was majorly frustrating, and its pricer than several of its better competitors.
First time at this restaurant. Went in on a saturday night with the family and was pleasantly surprised by the qualiry of the food. Mine could have been a little spicier but this was a minor issue. Beer choice could be a little better but you can take your own if you wish. The price was good and the three choice option of starter, main, rice or naan was really good value. A good experience and will return again.

Lovely curry and very friendly staff. Needs a total revamp of the business model, though. It was Saturday night, and the place was almost empty with only 5 or 6 tables in use. It seems to make most of its money on the takeaway side of the business. The bar is not stocked anymore, tables very basic with no finesse, staff / owners family (?) walking around with hands in pockets chatting. This is a relatively large restaurant in a well populated area serving a really good product. Spend a few pounds on bringing it up market, and it could be full every night.
Ordered a takeaway tonight. Chicken tikka Biriyani, chicken madras were absolutely delicious. Had to wait an hour for delivery which was a little longer than I'd like but it was worth the wait. Plenty of proper chicken. 5*
I went the red onion for my birthday. Beautiful curry and the waiter was so friendly he advised what curry to have and i loved it. I will be back for sure my new fav curry house. Keep up the good work :)
Just ordered for my 3rd week in a row.. we live on ashbank. I am an experienced curry lady and the food from the red onion has been amazing recently. Chicken balti and jalfrezi delicious and full of flavour and nan breads always very moist. Can't stand dry bread! Support local you will not be disappointed! Thankyou x

I've just finished the best Indian takeaway I've ever had. The food was delivered piping hot and when I opened my curry carton, which was the Red Onion special, I was amazed not to find a big pool of orange coloured oil pouring out of the container, like you sometimes get with other Indian takeaways.
This meal was the best ever and the garlic naan with coriander was perfect. Delivery time was 40 minutes after the order, not bad for New Years Eve. On a serious note, the Red Onion is well worth a try. Highly recommended 5* 👍
Ordered food and came within about 20 minutes. Very nice and hot. Impressed considering last few times took a long time. Keep up the good work red onion
Ordered a curry for me and the mrs really nice havent had a curry like it for a while and its great value for money big sized trays and the garlic naan was spot on only downside that it took 50 minutes for delivery but other than that honestly couldnt go wrong worth the wait be going back for sure!

Lovely in all respects excellently prepared and served food exactly suiting my palate and sensitive stomach . Welcoming atmosphere and interesting decor all contributed to a good early evening birthday dinner with family and a bonus - on overhearing the word birthday the proprietor immediately offered a choice of complimentary liqueur to my sons partner celebrating her 32 nd.
Definitely on my list of ' go to again'

Plus get 50% off each curry (curry only) all other items are charged full but excellent discount and makes big difference to your end bill.....
Tried The Red Onion after a number of years away as the previous Chef / Management mishandled our orders a number of times and the meals got smaller and smaller (This was years ago).
However we tried The Red Onion again recently and found the food to be fantastic. Good portion sizes, a highly tasty variety of dishes and very friendly service.
We plan on using The Red Onion a lot more frequently. Highly recommended.
The best Indian restaurant in the city, in my opinion. Always great food, I have ordered from them more than 10 times now and never was the food less than perfectly cooked, well priced as well. Happy customer indeed.
