First time I had ever visited however the Wife used to come years ago so we thought we would give it a bash!! Went on Sunday 4th feb and at first just had a couple of drinks however after seeing the food that was coming out of the kitchen we decided to stay for lunch. Even though the restaurant was heaving we were re-layed a table and made to feel very welcome. We did the carvery lunch and I have to say it was absolutely fabulous. I cannot recommmend this place highly enough not just for the food but also for the genuinely helpful, professional and welcoming staff. We will be back!!

Lovely place for food, in particular! Theres loads of parking and street parking. The staff are welcoming and plentiful; we didn’t have to wait long, even at lunch, Sunday 12:30 The atmosphere was good. I didn’t notice any music on reflection; just the business of the place. That said, everyone is spaced well and it doesn’t feel stuffy. The menu is classically British and full of lovely choices, all of which look stunning when they come out. I had rosemary roasted chicken with red wine jus which was tender, and a very nicely-sized portion. The food was hot throughout and hasn’t been left standing. Desert was a crumble, apple and raspberry. It was tart, sweet and had crunch to the crumble. The custard was lovely. Very nice indeed. Those plus a pot of tea were less than £30 with a tip; not bad for good quality food! Upstairs they have a pizza oven and my friend says they are delicious stone baked pizzas. Outside there’s about 10 double-sided benches with large brollies; it was drizzling but we were dry and it was scenic!

We were a bit late getting onto our table but I think this was due to the previous diners taking their (very sweet) time in finishing up! Great choice of dishes, something for everyone & a good choice of specials too. The food was delicious, everyone in our party of 10 enjoyed what they had. Beautiful building with traditional interior & friendly & helpful staff. Thanks for my birthday meal X ♥️

A friend and I (vegan and vegetarian) stopped here when travelling to the North East on a Bank Holiday Sunday. Staff were so accommodating, found us a table even though we had not booked. The chef kindly catered a vegan friendly carvery option for us. The food was excellent. Fantastic customer service. Thank you 👍🏻

Stunning. Can't go wrong. OK so what's going on here, I don't usually find a faultless place. So... 2 steak options but 4 or 5 fish, catch of the day options. Add a big T-bone to the menu guys, peppercorn sauce, huge onion rings, fat chips. Christ I'm drooling just typing that out ! But, overall, cracking

Can't fault it. Food was delicious and very fairly priced. Starters, mains and desserts for two+drinks came to £85 which is not bad at all. Everything was delicious, staff were polite and it wasn't too loud, too cold or too hot. Will be going again.

Come here when visiting Pontefract. Food is always amazing and service is spot on. Its always been busy when I've visited which creates a great atmosphere in a traditional yet modern setting.

The food here is usually pretty good. The starters never fail to impress but the mains are quite tasteless which really lets it down. The staff are brilliant and attentive so it is a shame about the mains especially the chips

A very nice meal and pleasant break from the nearby A1. No room for dessert as the chicken club sandwich was huge. Yes we will be back again but next time we will phone ahead as it was pretty busy.

Fantastic as always, some of the best traditional pub food servings I've ever come across. Portion sizes are great (beware the Loaded Nachos 'starter' which was more in line with a full size main!). Pictured is the cider roasted pork belly with sheet crackling on top and mustard grain mash. I had a half pint, pint of coke starter and main for £23 which I felt was reasonable. Come here as a treat for the food and you're set 👍

Really friendly and helpful staff. We had a evening meal there and food was alright my chicken ,,Parmo’’ was quite bland and unseasoned and my mother in law fish & chips quite greasy
