We really enjoyed our visit and was one of the highlights of our trip when visiting Dorset. The service and food were fantastic and locally sourced, just wished we knew who the butcher was so we could buy some meat to take home with us! There is a lot of outdoor seating with a lovely view. We hope to come back again, thank you!

A quintessential British pub, located in the heart of the Dorset countryside. The staff are lovely, the beers are cold and the food is tasty! All of that would be reason enough to visit already… but when you add the pub garden to the mix, and the views looking out over the rolling Dorset country hills: it makes the Hare and Hounds a must on your next trip through the area. They feature vegan and gluten free menu items for those of us with dietary restrictions, and are dog friendly on the pub side for anyone travelling with their four legged friends. Partner a visit to the Hare and Hounds with one of the many scenic field walks, and you’ve got yourself the perfect afternoon out :)

We were so pleased to find this pub within walking distance of our holiday cottage, and we went three times to eat there. There was a warm welcome, the owners (Bob and Jenny) were lovely, they couldn't have been nicer. The food was good, home cooked and interesting menu choices too. Beautiful gardens. Best to book if you want to eat there. All in all, a treat!

An excellent Dorset pub with great beer, Cider and food. The view in the outside garden of the rolling hills of Dorset are amazing. A great all round rest stop. With a landlord who understands great hospitality and service. Highly recommend.

Delicious food and very friendly service. Made to feel very welcome by Bob! If you want a calm adult atmosphere then this is the place for you!! 😊 Perfect for teachers on holiday!! The garden is beautiful too. It’s a lovely quintessentially English pub. Had the most tasty faggots. Locally sourced food. Highly recommend.

The highlight of our trip, this is a proper English pub with an eccentric and highly likable landlord who had a great sense of humour and excellent hospitality skills. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived, the food menu was varied and I can honestly say I think anything on offer would have been tasty. As it was I had the chicken and ham pie and my Wife the vegetarian curry pie which was followed up by a first rate Bread and Butter pudding with homemade custard. Everything was clearly homemade and made with passion, the waitress was very attentive and overall we look forward to returning in the future, maybe a couple of pints in the excellent garden with another tasty meal? Five stars for the Hare and Hounds and long may they prosper.

We came across this pub while camping in the local area. When we arrived we were greeted by the owners (presumably a husband and wife) who, despite the pub being shut for lunch at the time, reopened the bar to serve me and my partner drinks. We felt bad for making them do this but they were very welcoming and hospitable. We heard it was advisable to book for dinner, but we hadn't. They were really good and fitted us in though! The food was lovely and arrived promptly. We both ordered from the vegetarian menu and it was really tasty and very reasonably priced. It came to £58 for 5 pints and 2 mains. The setting of the pub is magnificent - they have a huge outdoor area with a gentle view of a valley with rolling hills and the ridge opposite. Perfect spot for a cider on a lovely sunny day.

We booked for a Sunday lunch while staying at Pineapple Farm Campsite. We sat outside enjoying fantastic views of the Dorset countryside although Bob had reserved us a table inside should we have wanted it. We sampled the beers before choosing, we ordered from the varied menu and enjoyed excellent home made food (curried vegetable pie and chips - fantastic, who knew?) I don't understand why it wasn't heaving with people. Our traditional country pubs need our support or we will just be left with with the bland, the faceless and the corporate. We will definitely be going back next time we visit the area.

Beautiful fish and chips with nice crispy batter!! Small welcoming pub tucked away in the countryside. Large peaceful garden with a great smell of sweet peas at the moment. Well worth a visit for freshly cooked hot food.

You can't buy a view like that, but if you nurse a drink you can appreciate it for a while. The staff are so friendly and accommodating. I haven't eaten there yet, but I know from chatting that the food is all home cooked.
