Their happy hour is pretty awesome given it's location. Had several Hellbender IPAs and my wife had a few cocktails. The guac n' chips were freshly made. The flautas (happy hour deal... GET THEM!!) were also solid. Wife n' I bought tacos (carne asada n Baja)...but forgot to take pics...but they were the best tacos we've had on the East Coast.
I recently hosted an event at Johnny Pistolas and it was an absolute hit! The venue provided a vibrant and energetic atmosphere and plenty of space for a large group, setting the perfect tone for an amazing experience.
What truly stood out was not only the great service from the staff but also the incredible value offered. The price point for the quality of service, food, and overall experience was exceptional. From planning to execution, the team was accommodating, professional, and went above and beyond to ensure a smooth and enjoyable event for all. 10/10 recommend.
SOLID spot for taco Tuesday!! There’s $3 tacos and drink specials and dancing later in the evening. The manager, Mariah, RUNS that place! She’s doing such a good job! It’s noticeably different than other times I’ve been here! Such a fun vibe! 100% recommend and will definitely be back! :) I love the blood orange drink!
Food tasted great. Cheese fries were yummy. Nachos tasted good. The chicken bowl tasted decent as well. Quesadillas were yummy 🤤
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Johnny Pistolas, and it's a definite must-visit! The Mexican cuisine is absolutely incredible, and the vibrant bar scene is a treat in itself. The food? Delicious. The bar? Lively and fun. The space? Top-notch. Whether you're there for happy hour, brunch, or a special event, a memorable experience is guaranteed. Don't miss out on this fantastic destination!
Had an extremely stressful second day in DC walking around with the kids but this place was like an oasis in the desert. Randomly stumbled upon it when the restaurant we had picked out didn’t have any available seats. Best tacos I’ve ever had anywhere hands down, extremely nice servers, genuinely one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in a long time. Thank you!!!!
Brunch is amazing ! Fantastic food and the bottomless drinks are great! Definitely do bottomless brunch. The chicken and waffles is amazing. Great breading and portions. Side of fruit is fresh. Will recommend to everyone
Brunch bottomless drinks and food was elite. The food was incredibly flavorful and unique. Variations of sweet salty spicy made for a very exciting tasting pallet. Highly recommend for your brunch festivities. The chorizo hash was my favorite. Definitely coming back again.
Good size space. The music is very teeny bopper, top hits. Lots of young kids jumping up and down. Not my vibe but it’s somebody’s for sure.
Very Adams Morgan appropriate sitting along side many ethnic restaurants. Adams Morgan has lots of life even at 4:30 pm. I enjoyed the barbacoa burrito which had lots of flavor beautifully blended together. It also came with chips and a green salsa. Not a ton of food choices but enough. In fairness it’s as much a bar as a restaurant. I’m sure it’s a hopping place at night! They also have a nice brunch menu but I came just after it ended. The brunch menu looked good & there are lots of tacos to select from.
2nd time being back and both times have been amazing. The food here is top notch. I don’t think I’ve had anything I didn’t at least have a 2nd and third bite of. We came in for brunch and enjoyed the food and drinks immensely. Don’t hesitate and making a stop here for brunch.
With a wide selection of beers and tequila drinks, and some great happy hour and food specials (half price taco Tuesday!?), Johnny Pistolas is a pretty great bargain. The food is nothing to write home about, but the tacos aren't half bad. Great size, good fillings, and corn tortillas. Skip the nachos unless you like "cheese sauce" rather than real cheese. The crema and real jalapenos are a plus though!
Tacos are very good. I keep coming here every week. Barbacoa and shrimp are my favorites.
I had brunch last week with my boyfriend here, it was a little different than their normal brunch (due to Covid) but it was still amazing! The currently don’t have the bottomless food option (probably because we have to sit outside and to discourage people from staying too long; they do however still have the bottomless drink brunch option). I had their breakfast burrito and my boyfriend had their quesadilla. We both loved our meals, and our waitress was very nice also! The drinks were good per usual; I can’t wait until things go back to normal so we can eat inside and try all the options again. Still great food regardless. Highly recommend❤️

Good Mexican food decent outdoor street seating.
My husband and I got the endless mimosa brunch. I got the hangover bowl and he got the carnitas breakfast burrito. Both were delicious!! And the staff was so great and friendly. Will definitely be back!
overall good experience. i went on a thursday night so it was almost completely empty. i ordered chips and guac, the guac was very flavorful and the chips were super thin (almost too thin) so they snapped very easily. for the main course i ordered churizo tacos and they were delicious but the portions were small. it doesn’t say on the menu, but they offer sides of rice and beans for the tacos.
Johnny Pistolas is a wonderful bar and restaurant in Adams Morgan in DC. The drinks there were phenomenal! I will say that it took a while for the waitress to come and take our initial orders and it took way too long to bring our drinks and food. I will address the food first as it was not good. The guacamole was bland, even for avocados. It seemed like it was lacking everything I love about guacamole, except for the avocados. It also took forever for the guacamole to come out to our table. Sent it back, moving on. Our first round of drinks was a matching set of a mezcal drink in a cocktail glass, called Naked and Famous, and a margarita in a rocks glass, which was a jalapeno infused blood orange margarita. They were both orange-y drinks, but their flavor was amazing. I do have a particular affinity towards blood oranges, so this drink suited my desires perfectly. The second round were a red drink called an Old Oaxacan (Wa-hoc-an) and a lighter, albeit boozier drink called a Paloma. The drinks were delicious and we definitely enjoyed ourselves at Adams Morgan Day with this as one of our stops. The management was kind enough to take back our guacamole and remove it from our check after hearing our complaint, so because the drinks were delicious and refreshing, and because the management was apt in handling our complaint and had a good attitude, I am giving this place 4 stars. A little more timeliness from the wait staff and kitchen and Johnny Pistolas would certainly achieve a 5-star rating from me. Either way, get over there and make your own determination. Happy trails.
