Saw this pub as I drove past and realised it was the one that had won Essex pub of the year. I had lunch there with my parents and can see why they won. Very friendly, efficient and helpful staff and great food and beer. My dog also liked the treats and fuss she was given.
So glad we dropped in here for a meal tonight, bearing in mind it is a pub and quite noisy the food was excellent and at a very reasonable price, homemade chips were delicious as was the honey roast ham, hubby thourghly enjoyed his chilli con carni too. Service was exceptional and very attentive. Will definitely pop back in when we pass this way again.
Great dog friendly pub. It it so nice to be able to take your dog in a pub and have a meal too! We didn't eat yesterday but definately will next time. Very friendly staff with a proper old pub atmosphere and service. Loved it �
Had a lovely meal here on Friday night with friends. Pub is very welcoming & a great selection of beer for my husband to sample. Food is freshly cooked and tasted it! Will definitely be returning.
Good to know proper pubs still exist! Food lovely, homemade ice cream great. Two guys who run it are lovely, very friendly, can't do enough for you. Definitely recommend it.

Found this lovely pub due to the fact it was within walking distance from the Marriott in Waltham Abbey and couldn't have been more pleased. This traditional pub serves excellent homemade everything! We had the steak & ale pie and handcut fresh homemade chips which my husband adored. I had the hamburger which was very tasty. An excellent selection of real ale and cider plus our server took the time to find out what hubby was looking for and made 3 excellent recommendations- al 3 hit the spot. We had room for homemade apple crumble (tart & fabulous) topped with plenty of custard and sticky toffee pudding with Terry's Orange homemade ice cream (which was the best ice cream I've ever had, honestly!) to round out our Monday night meal. We left super full and happy and wish Rob and the team continued success.

Lovely pub with friendly staff, great service & a lovely atmosphere. Good food which is all cooked fresh to order. So, if you want your food on 10 minutes, your in the wrong pub! Various well kept real ales to choose from & a varied menu choice to sort all tastes which has a number system allowing you to see instantly of any allergies.
Great food and beer plus very friendly staff. Had Sunday lunch and started with Woodbine's very tasty tempura prawns followed by tender roast lamb and then creme brûlée. First class thank you.
Had lunch here today. Plenty of choice - a very varied menu, and lots for a fussy vegetarian (me). You can see from the photo what I thought of the food (vegan sausage and mash with peas and gravy) :-).
Rest of family group enjoyed their meals too.
Comfortable atmosphere with excellent service.
Car park is small, but there is a public, larger one on the opposite side of the road.

Wonderfully warm welcome from the owner and his clearly very happy staff. Clientele all looked happy and relaxed. Food was amazing! Locally sourced, home made, generous portions and extremely tasty. They even made my girlfriend a meal which wasn't on the menu - amazing customer service!
Beer selection is fantastic - plenty for anyone, including craft beer fans. I even bought some to take home with me.
I couldn't fault a thing. I'll definitely be back. Long may this place last!!
Great selection of extremely delicious vegan and normal meals. The home made ice cream was out of this world and the vegan chilli was amazing, plus the Not Chicken Tex Mex salad is a dream. They are dog friendly and also super friendly with humans. We felt so cared for and we are just absolutely happy with this place and the staff and the food. We will defo come back. Yet again The Woodbine delivers superbly.
We stopped by just before 1pm on a Sunday on the off chance of getting a table for lunch as a reward for some serious DIY success and although we hadn’t booked and they were getting busy they fitted the 2 of us in
We both went for the 4 meat roast dinner.
As we saw the enormous portions being delivered to a nearby table my wife joked that we could have just ordered one and asked for a spare plate!!
When ours arrived they were huge portions as the picture shows.
We did manage to finish them all off but wifey had to sacrifice her usual sticky toffee pudding and custard.
Every time we have eaten at The Woodbine it has been great.
It’s a proper old school pub with great food, excellent drinks as they pride themselves on their very high standard of ales and there is a real welcoming atmosphere which makes you feel like one of the locals.

Excellent Sunday roast followed by walnut dessert with home made vanilla ice cream. Charming staff with attentive but not over powering service.
The best roast dinner I have had in ages!! Gutted I haven't been here sooner. Lovely pub, atmosphere and people. Rob served us and he was lovely, can't wait to come back and try the home made ice cream 😊 would highly recommend!
A coach load of us arrived for a precooked hot and cold buffet. It did not disappoint, excellent selection of hot food, sandwiches and delicious chips! Very welcoming staff and the landlord came out and thanked us all for coming as we boarded our coach to leave. Highly recommended.
Ordered the cheeseburger from here and it was absolutely out of this world. Loved each and every bite. The handmade chips were the perfect texture and flavour. Washed it all down with a lovely fresh pint. The staff here were so friendly and welcoming. Would 100% recommend this place whether you are local or not!
When I visited, it was very quiet, but we were made to feel welcome, and everything we had from the menu was cooked with care and was well presented. Delicious too I might add. This was my second visit, and although it takes an hour to get there. Its well worth it. Thank you team. See ya soon.

Great atmosphere and tasty homemade food. We ended at this pub by pure luck yesterday for a dinner in the middle of the week, and fell in love with such amazing traditional British cuisine. Roast available during the week, how awesome! Plus we were treated with care and it felt very family friendly, as we visited with our baby. Will definitely definitely come back. Portions and flavours were of another level. Thanks for such lovely meal!
