Wow, what a find. After a couple of days walking in the Beacons, we stumbled across this little gem. We were welcomed into the Inn as if we were visiting good friends. The food was delicious and it's just such a shame we couldn't pop back to sample some other delights from the varied menu. A true traditional Inn with great food, drinks and wholehearted welcome from all the staff.
Outstanding food, excellent service and a good wine list! Definitely recommend
Great food high quality ingredients and a fair price. Great friendly service makes you feel like you've always been a customer. Beautiful building and staff amazing. Highly recommend dining! Will always come back!
Personal welcome when walked through the door. Fabulous atmospheric pub. Friendly service. Excellent food - steak pie and rabbit pie delicious. Great range of vegetarian food and cater for the children too. Highly recommended.
Lovely food and welcoming staff. Our 2nd year of having our Christmas meal here and has been fab both times. Thanks!
Came in March and had food here, the rabbit pie was to die for! Absolutely amazing food and great service.
The local pub to my sisters new residence, a beautiful pub with well presented, polite staff....and great beer. The food is outstanding! If you're in the area DO NOT miss out! See you guys soon!
The faggots and mushy peas were exceptional. Good customer service and management very receptive to customer needs. Fresh vegetables were great!
Great traditional Welsh food, good portions and very tasty. Always greeted by the Landlord. Good choice of Beer comfortable seating. I always stop for dinner here if possible.
Fantastic, family run with amazing food and superb service with a smile! The best place to eat in Usk, hands down.
A great traditional family pub. Warm welcome and lovely food.
Lovely friendly pub . The food is always excellent and plenty of it!
The atmosphere is lovely, relaxing and informal. Well behaved canine friends are allowed too which suited us very well today as we had been walking around Usk with the family and my daughter's bulldog, Max.
Staff so helpful and welcoming. Food and service absolutely superb.great atmosphere and character
Great food (mmmm steak pie!!!), excellent beer ("It's Brains you want "!!!) lovely, friendly atmosphere and really good to catch up with an old rugby buddy in Simon.
Lovely ripe avacados and always a great welcome from Simon and the girls
Great food, lovely ambience and first class service! 👍🏼
Good pub with fantastic homemade food. Menu is varied offering something for everyone including seasonal game such as rabbit, pheasant and partridge for those with more adventurous tastes. Homemade faggots and the steak pie are delicious. Make sure you have the Leek and Welsh Cheese soup - it's fantastic. Atmosphere is warm and welcoming as are the staff who are friendly. Well worth a visit.
We were lucky to arrive early last Saturday, we hadn't booked and after we arrived several others who hadn't booked were turned away.
This pub is a real rarity in these days of pizza and burgers and not much else. A really interesting menu of real honest pub food as it once was, that was clearly home made. I had the steak pie, it was superb.
The beer was in good shape as well and the service was excellent.
Very pleasant and welcoming staff who went out of their way to accommodate our requests. We had a short stay in Usk and ate here on both nights. The food was plentiful and well cooked and the general ambience in the bar was relaxing. Thank you.
I wish we lived closer, we'd be there a lot more often! It's a genuine pub in the realest sense of that phrase, it's got age, character, beers are looked after properly, and the same family has been running it for decades. I recommend the food, both dishes and the desserts we had were great, couldn't fault them at all. It just had such a lovely atmosphere, that comes primarily from the landlady and her family but also the old school pub decor ... in fact I'd go as far as saying that its pubs like this that should be the standard, not the ever present nouveau 'old' rubbish that is so prevalent today.
A lovely traditional pub with a very friendly and cosy atmosphere. Great selection of dishes which were also reasonably priced. Dog friendly, welcoming staff, great food...would highly recommend.
Love this place! Its very old inside, lots of history inside the quirky old building, the staff were lovely and the food we had was lovely. The menu looked very appealing so will be going back to eat soon.
Another excellent lunch! Thursday lunch for 3 and we knew we weren’t going to be disappointed. I broke the habit of 20 years and didn’t have the rabbit pie; instead I had the half Guinea fowl in a fig and wine sauce. This was delicious - gamey and rich but not overbearing at lunchtime at all. The veg that came with it were nicely cooked and tasty. My dining partners had the vegetable pancakes (very good) and the scampi (very tasty). Drinks were a pale dry Rosé and Reverend James, couldn’t be faulted.
Simon and his team provide a very warm welcome in my favourite country pub in South Wales.
Well kept beers, reasonable wine selection and excellent food. It was very busy but the owners and staff kept a beady eye on everything so the service was always there when you needed it. Spot on. Thanks a lot.
Sunday 2nd April 2023, three of us had an excellent lunch, the food was absolutely delicious and piping hot. Although the pub was busy the service was just as good as usual and contributed to an overall very enjoyable experience. We shall certainly be eating there again before too long.
Very friendly, family owned pub.
Good food , plenty of GF choice & GF peroni!
