Love this place. Discovered it on a trip to Twickenham a few years ago and make sure we visit every time we come up for a rugby match. Superb food.
Opens nice and early for breakfast on Saturday morning(8am). We had the French toast with Nutella. Fruit and crime fraiche. Very good coffee. It's hard walking past the pastries on the way in.
Egg in the hole, or as we call it, Pirate's Eye!
With Gigante beans and aubergine spread for brunch. Delicious.
Went there last night for dinner - dog friendly, great service and lovely pizzas
One of the best pizzas I've EVER had! Nice atmosphere too but remember it's BYO ... we didn't but M&S is only a few doors away!
Great Pizzas , nothing like the stuff in the big chains , properly made and taste fantastic, the chefs and front of house are friendly and knowledgable , it is a shame they have stopped BYO because the Wine on sale is top money (£24 and £37 a bottle) for a basic venue like this .

Amazing bread Love the ciabatta the best ever.
☺☺☺
Just love it here. Great coffee, amazing pastries and really helpful staff. Perfect Sunday stuff!
Pizza and bread like they are supposed to be! Amazing
After buying a loaf of their cracking sourdough at the Surbiton Farmer’s Market the other week, my Partner in Crime and I were delighted to be informed that they have a restaurant that does pizza and is BYO. Needless to say, we were there the first available opportunity we had. Located in Twickenham, which conveniently is a direct bus trip from our house, Ruben’s Bakehouse is a knockout. The sourdough pizza bases are first class. If ever a pizza dough would make you weep, this is it. Fresh from the wood-fired oven, these pizzas are some of the best in London, and are in fact, some of the best pizzas I have ever had.
I’ve written about Ruben’s Bakehouse and Refettorio many times before: their wonderful breads, their fantastic pizza, but a new addition to their repertoire – or even repertorio, as we’re talking Italian here – is their breakfast: La Colazione. I have to say that when Igor – the owner – told me about them starting to serve Italian breakfast, I thought it was a great move but not necessarily something I’d take up. I’m not a fan of cooked breakfast. The English in me doesn’t wake up in the morning … I’m a bowl of cereal, fruit, croissant and coffee person. I’ve upset Cornish B&B owners – always so proud of their Full English Breakfasts – by refusing them. So when I arrived at Ruben’s this morning with Jonathan, Lyndsey, Julie (Lyndsey’s mum) and Freddie (who is not quite old enough for cooked breakfast yet!), I had only a coffee and pastry in mind. Jonathan, however, took one look at Full Italian Breakfast (£7.95) – ‘Breakfast from our wood-fired oven – egg, Italian sausage, pancetta, giant beans in tomato sauce, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes on the vine, homemade ketchup and our bread’ – and there was no hesitation: that’s what he was going to have.
I have been living in Twickenham for the past 4 years. As a healthy food lover, I can easily say that Rubens has the best breakfast in the area. However the prices may scare you a bit, I can assure you they are justified by the quality of the products. Their Italian twist on the full English is simply fantastic. You pay an extra £2 compared to other places and get sourdough bread, massive beans, organic sausage... If you are in a rush and don't care about what you are about to eat, go elsewhere.. I love this place for a lazy weekend breakfast with friends. The place is cozy and however young, the staff is helpful and happy to fix any issue may arise. Mario was particularly kind and patient when dealing with my critics, that was very nice to see! If you are around the area don't miss this hidden gem!
Good pizzas and very reasonable BYO offer (£3 corkage per bottle)
A bit on the expensive side but worth every penny, it's pure, real Italian food with the Twickenham atmosphere! Just love it!
This place is a great place as it always has fresh bread and pastries and has a very good location as it has the river Thames about 100 metres from it, located in twickenham Highway it is a perfect place to get a morning loaf. Another plus of its location is that it has got two large rugby stadiums right next to it, this is perfect for when you want a fresh and quick bite with the boys. Overall great😌🙂👌
Excellent coffee and lovely buttery pastries. The fried breakfast is amazing and all cooked in a wood oven. The only reason I give 4 stars and not 5 is because I found the pizza slightly sub par. But other than that it was amazing.
We have been ordering Gluten Free pizza's from Ruben's during the lockdown as a Friday night treat. I have to say that gluten free pizza is normally a waste of time, because they just don't work. Luckily for us the fabulous people at Ruben's seem to have figured it out. They cook them in a foil tray so we know that they have taken great care and are not sitting in wheat flour from the other pizza's. I had assumed that pizza was a thing of a past for me and my daughter, but apparently not! If you need to be gluten free and you would like a good pizza then this is the place for you!
We go there at least once a week for coffee and croissants. Their almond croissants are excellent. In summer we sit outside at the pavement side tables and watch the world go by. The service is friendly and prompt. The bread they bake there is pretty good. If Heath Road was a nicer place it would easily be a 5 star experience.
We have always loved Ruben's sourdough loaves and pastries with their amazing flavours and textures. During lockdown we have also been eating the delicious take away sourdough pizzas every month or so and would recommend to anyone who likes a pizza dough with a bit of chew - not too hard, not too soft - combined with toppings which are a joy to the tastebuds.
Best bread ever, honestly. I'm the sort of guy who rarely buys the same things, I'm always buying new things, trying new foods. But Ruben's sourdough bread is just so delicious, I never get bored of it and buy it every week. Manna from heaven stuff. Pizzas and pastries are great too!
Service is a bit hit and miss, in a charming sort of way. But this is totally forgivable as soon as you taste the pizza, its glorious, a triumph of wood fired deliciousness! Also can't recommend the full Italian breakfast enough, lovey was to start a Sunday.
The coffee is a little bit of a let down, for an Italian I would expect better.
