Great to return to TYC and meet up with friends. Lovely welcome and warm hospitality.
Just joined and had a great training weekend with my 9 year old son Joel
Let me take you back in time and tell you a little shaggy dog story. In the mid 18th century, one Charles Bossom resided in Twickenham and worked there as a gardener, quite possibly in one of the stately homes such as Copt Hill which was then adjoining the workers cottages in which he lived. In those days, Twickenham was deep in the country side and a day’s ride or so from London. Allegedly, it was where the fashionable nobility had their country seats. Charles Bossom’s parentage is not clear. It appears that he was the illegitimate son of a young woman by the name of Mary Bossom. Family folklore has it that she was most probably one of the many daughters of the Bossom clan of boat men and river gypsies who lived on Fisher Row in Oxford, from where they plied their trade. According to historian Mary Prior in her book Fisher Row, they were a rough lot and illiterate but nonetheless, Freemen of the City of Oxford on account of their economic influence. It is conceivable that young Mary would have travelled down river to Twickenham on one of the family’s barges to find employment in the area. One way or another, whether back in Oxford, or perhaps later working as a maid in one of the stately homes, Mary became a fallen woman.
A great spot to watch the swans go by as you sip on a drink or three. Far enough from central Twickenham not to be full of rugby fans on match days but close enough to be a leisurely stroll along the towpath. Nice relaxing atmosphere, staff great and food is ok too although we just shared a few snack plates. Would like to go back and try the roast . Lovely terrace up the stairs but inside can be a bit dark.
This place is a hidden gem. Key flavor of this place is it's placed at riverside and other ingredients are peace and calm. This place transcends you to tranquil state once you step in. It's surrounded by green which soothes your eyes. One has to come here to experience it all by themselves.
This place gets filled pretty fast even on a weekday evenings. Crowd looks like people who live in neighborhood. Most of the people just grab drinks that might be because food being expensive. But food was good though it was expensive. We had ordered chicken kabab with pita bread. Chicken was cooked to perfection and nicely marinated.
I would love to visit this place again when I am in London. This place I found it via zomato. I was very glad for finding this place.
Pros : Calm and serene setting, good food, brilliant service
Cons : The charm of this place is on the outside and it gets difficult to enjoy this if the rain gods are in a bad mood !!!
I would recommend this place for people looking for some peace, sun and some good food and spirits to keep the spirits up !!
The charm of this place is its setting and its a pity you can enjoy this setting mostly in the summers. This place is serene calm and peaceful the only two sounds you can hear is a lot of grumbling from ur tummy until the food arrives to your table or may be a burrrp of satisfaction after your meal. This place is right next to the Thames river and they have a deck overlooking the river and also some place inside just across the road, so when the weather gets bad you can always retreat to the warm comforts and enjoy your food and drink, However if the sun is shining there is no place better than the deck to enjoy a quiet and relaxed evening.
We were here for lunch and ordered mostly burgers and humus pita bread. The beef burger seems to be the pretty obvious choice here looking at the enthusiasm with which my friends went for it. I had the chicken burger and it tasted very well the patty was crisp and juicy and hot just like you want a burger to be, the buns were pretty good as well.
I also tried the humus pita bread with kebabs and it tasted amazingly well, i loved the way it was cooked. We had blueberry juice to drink which was tasty and refreshing.
Drool factor ? Just the setting and the food is drool worthy. would love to have the hummus and the kebabs here.
Hole in the pocket ? Not a big hole its priced pretty decently.
One of my all time favourite pubs, when I was a regular loved the location, ambiance and just the fact that it was a pub. Great location on the river. This is what a pub should be, or at least it was. Hopefully it is still the same.
Great venue and, if you sit outside, great views of the Thames.
Ordered a selection of starters to share and whilst the staff couldn’t have been more helpful, the food arrived too quickly to have been cooked from fresh.
Having said that, the hummus and mustard/honey sausages were delicious whilst the chicken wings were too messy without something too wipe your fingers with.
The Swan is a picture of a quintessential countryside pub next to the river. If you are not local then you might find it hard to find it as the location is past the residential area and is further down the river... Or you might come across the pub when you're walking down the river path to Richmond.
Like the name and if your lucky you'll see white swans swimming around. The pub has a small indoor space and a terrace overlooking the river and just across the pub is an extension for outdoor seating. The staff is quite good to remind any guest when high tide comes and when it comes it might flood the outdoor space.
There is also a sign next to the toilet entrance as a reminder for all the customers.
The staff are always friendly and chatty and the food is delicious and well worth the money.
My friend and I had a "vegetarian" burger which was very tasty. Didn't know how big a portion of chips the burger would come, so I tried to order an extra bowl of chips but I was quickly reminded by one of the staff the portion of the chip are decent, and it was and I had a hard time finishing it. The chips they serve are not French fries but proper chips.
Great location along the river and great place for a drink. Food was good too, but was told they no long do roasts when we came Sunday.
One of our favourite spots in Twickenham gets quite busy but perfect for a sunny summers day as the tide raises and falls around you (and the tide can come up to where your feet are on the deck). They have a love beer and wine selection with amazing Fish and Chips
Good food. Had the pork belly and rare beef sunday roast which were pretty good. Has few collection of local brewed beers. Little expensive than the typical pubs. Charges extra for service. Nice location. Reserve tables before to avoid last min rush.
I visited due to the rugby that day. Was Soooo busy. Cute little pub with great views outdoors
Great little but lively spot next to the river! Called in for a nice pint of Guinness and Cider on our walk back to Richmond. Lovely staff!
Great fun at this pub by the Thames. We sat outside on the patio area and watched a great steel drum band who were very entertaining. We also had the added excitement of a high tide coming in and flooding the road and surrounding area. Lovely location with a friendly vibe, the flowers and set up were suited for all types of patrons.
Pimm's and lemonade was a very refreshing drink after a long walk on a hot day. Fish and chips's pea mash was tasty 👍
Booked for dinner with friends. Limited menu but decent food. We had a table inside and the staff are really efficient and friendly. I recommend the fish and chips and Moroccan chicken. Toilets are in the basement. Good wine selection too. The pub is located right on the river and we had a lovely view. They have an outside terrace 1st floor and a riverside garden. It was really busy on a sunny Saturday so I would recommend booking.
Went here for a pub lunch over the jubilee bank holiday and honestly had some of the best fish and chips! The staff were very friendly and attentive. Great portions for a good price!
Fabulous pub on the river in Twickenham- but you could easily think you're in the country. Off the beaten track with great beer. I didn't eat there but the food looked great.
Great lunch at the White Swan. Sausages in honey and mustard, Scampi and wings - with drinks. All at £30 per head, but had to wait 20 minutes to order as high tide marooned us in the garden. Excellent service and a great experience.
Great local Riverside pub with nice selection of beers, wines and spirits. Outside area over looking the Thames with heaters for winter time. Highly recommend the Sunday roast with either Beef, Chicken or Pork. See you soon
A lovely place to have a beer, tucked away down a narrow lane by the Thames. Excellent real ales. Can't judge the food as we didn't eat when we visited, but everything is very organised so I doubt you would be disappointed.
We only popped into this bar for a quick drink. Lol Yeah right. We ended up staying a lot longer and oh yeah we had fun. So much so i left my bag with lots of Important ,valuable contents. This bar found it and called me to say i left it and the following day we returned to collect this bag. I am so very greatful for the this and how this was handled. I must return for another night. We met the bar landlady . With a lovely quintessential Scottish ( Edinburgh) name Morag ( means Great) which this place is. One of the finest bars I’ve been in .right next to the river… Thank you for a very Memorable evening.
Lovely pub, great location and great service on a busy match day
