Brilliant place to stay and food excellent. The staff can't do enough for you. Looking forward to coming back next year. Many tks Richard and Evey.
Our absolute favorite pub, great food, and wines and a superb location. Whats not to like!
I love everything about the Maltsters superb fresh fish, chilled rose and a wonderful location perfect for kayaks and SUP's too
Top Sunday roasts and stunning location. See you again!
For me personally, it was everything I needed. A lovely dog-friendly stay in a beautiful location. It can be a bit hairy to get to with some small country lanes. I'm used to these but others may find it a bit daunting.
The pub/Hotel is located right by the river so you have small boats mooring up alongside.
The staff were all really lovely and so welcoming. They were lovely to our dog as well. We had 2 rooms booked, one much smaller than the other. Ours was lacking in windows but that's just the layout of the building but my parents room was really nice with lots of space and a big bathroom too (theirs was an upgrade though so this wasn't unexpected).
The food was very nice, highly recommended the cod and chips and the breakfast was great with lots of options to choose from and all freshly made.
There's very little phone signal but there's free WiFi to help with this.
This place has always been a favourite until they changed the route in and out of the pub. Now they have changed it back it’s really good. Rather than walking out on to the road, you can go through the pub to the waterfront and car park. It’s much quieter than I remember from from years ago. Lovely views from the seating area. You can also sail up at high tide and moor along side.
Lovely pub with B&B overlooking the river. Room we had was a twin. Nice size, plenty of storage, a chair, TV, tea and coffee making facilities. Small skylight rather than a window. Bathroom was a decent size. Shower is in front of the window, neither the cubicle or window is frosted so remember to drop the blind, just in case. Bathroom could do with a makeover but was clean and functional.
Dinner got busy, so book, the food was fantastic. Had a brew by the river afterwards. Didn't have breakfast as we needed to be away before it started, they did offer to do make us a sandwich to take but we declined. Network signal isn't great, so it's a good place to unplug.
Would stay here again.
Omg this place was beautiful, I was a little on nervous due to how close the tables were to the water, but the lovely girl behide the bar could see I was nervous and opened the outside siting area which had a small glass front which meant our little one could see the water and we would see the lovely view but we were far enough away to not have to worry about our little man falling in.
The service was fantastic, the rooms were very clean and the one we stayed in had plenty of space.
We also had breakfast the next morning and it was so lovely.
Great position, lots of seating indoor and out.Good menu.Good selection of wines and beers.Plenty of parking.Efficient and pleasant staff.
Went for dinner. Very well presented food. Tasty and portions also good. Service was fine and location great.
Absolutely idyllic location on the riverside - you can understand why Keith Floyd bought and fell in love with this pub.
We stayed in The Black Horse room which was described as cosy - the reality being a king-sized bed (albeit two singles that had been pushed together), with a large bath/shower combo.
Great value for money, which included a cooked breakfast. We arrived for a one night stay on a Sunday, and I can honestly say the roast dinner we had was as good as any I have ever tasted
There are some car parking spaces, although we walked from Totnes along a well sign-posted route, with plenty of river views. This also allowed the opportunity to have a drink in pubs located in Ashprington and Bow Bridge along the approx three and a half mile route.
Road closure in Harbertonford lead us through here where the roads were gridlocked. Worse places to be stuck that's for sure! Beautiful location with excellent beer they brew themselves
The setting is enchanting. The room with river views was HUGE. The food was interesting and unusual - in addition to pub classics, the service was friendly and efficient. Will definitely stay again.
Sue & Alex extremely welcoming. Lunch time food was delicious. All freshly prepared & something a bit different. We loved it. It was my birthday so it was a lovely treat for me not to drive. The tide was out at the time but I imagine on a glorious day with the tide in it would be a lovely day out sat by the water eating lunch. There are roadworks in Totnes causing congestion and although the pub closes at 2pm they understood this for the lunchtime menu so there was no pressure to rush & eat our food.
Delicious food, friendly service but limited kitchen opening times. I came by boat so anyway tidal-dependent for arriving and leaving.
Lovely find. Food was outstanding if a little pricey. Comfy nights sleep, lovely hot shower.
Great food and decent pints with a fab view over the river, perfect for slap up lunch or dinner.
Fabulous traditional pub serving great food in a fabulous location 👍
Food superb, really excellent, lovely location, great service, would have preferred a small portion option.
